Yes, he was indeed a fine organist and he knew how to entertain! I met him a couple of times and always had time to chat. He was one of my organ heroes for sure. Many thanks, Kev.

Saw Robbie at several concerts and had the pleasure of meeting Doreen Chadwick at Edmonton. All now just memories.

Not sure old age is lucky but well remember Robbie at various Granada organs not least Tooting of course didn't really matter where he played he made them all sound great, the very first place I saw & heard him was at Wandsworth Road Granada, I heard Lloyd Thomas at Clapham Junction same day I was on holiday in London - even heard the Empire Leicester Square Wurlitzer while on holiday. I seem to recall I fact Wurlitzer added at least one of their Tibias to the pipe work? Gordon Exmouth

Thanks Gordon great memories! And I wish I had been able to hear some of those organs in there original homes like you say. Yes I believe when when Wurlitzer did the refurbishment in 1947 of the Regal Edmonton Christie, The Christie Tibia 2 was replaced by one from the Wurlitzer that had been in the Finsbury Park Rink Wurlitzer. Not sure if that was the case or if this still the case now the organ is with Paul Kirner in South Wales? thank Kev.

Yes thinking about it pretty sure one of the Tibias was replaced maybe they could have just added the Finsbury Park Tibia given three which would have made the organ unique in the UK, seem to think Vic Hammett may have been at Edmonton at that time? looking at the organist photo NOT the Robbie I knew!! The good news of course it IS saved albeit a few miles from Exmouth Gordon Exmouth @@BramleyProductions

Regrettably, I never heard 'Robbie' live on a theatre organ, but many times on Hammond at Scarborough in the 60s. Despite having most of his recordings, this one is new to me. Sparkling and typically 'Robbie' in mischievous mood! Might I ask the date of the recording? Also, just a minor error in your preamble, it's Len Rawle not 'Les' (a personal friend).

Hi sorry for delay getting back as to the date one of those recordings with no date to be seen on it. But I think its around 1970 to 72 time frame. No it was Les Rawle who I new well I did not know Len Les Rawle was Len Rawle's father and lived at Northolt at a house called Wurlitzer Lodge where he had the Ex Granada Wandsworth Road Wurlitzer installed with additions as I think it finished up at around 19 ranks by the 1980s. And when when Les Rawle died I think this organ was sold to a chap in Peterborough. All the best Kev.

To see Les Rawle have a look at this little clip re-link below. I went to Wurlitzer Lodge many times and have some great memories of Les and Edith Rawle. Kev. kzbin.info/www/bejne/poGYg4tuocx3l9U

@@kwmitchell No worries so lovely to get your comments, so thanks. Les Rawle was a super chap I think in total he had a hand in saving over well 50 UK theatre organs in his life! And his wife Edith was lovely they would always make you feel so welcome into their home. By the way that reading in fact dates to 1976, I did a bit more digging about and found the right year. All the best Kev.

@@BramleyProductions Thanks. By my reckoning that would make Robbie 70...
