From what I understand, Morton wanted the human brain cyborg concept because the ed209 was buggy. So the idea was to wipe the brain from memory and allow it to be used as the "processor" behind the robocop concept. The prime directives are in place so that the brain could function solely as a cop instead of a human. Later in the film, he started having dreams and the techs wanted to pull him in for a analysis but Morton got upset because a lot was riding on its success. His career was getting a huge bump because of robocop and for it to be pulled and having to have pricey repairs would make the old man upset because the ed209 already failed and now robocop has to have this pricey maintenance. So with that said, Murphy sort of re-awakened and realized he came back as a machine and the prime directives don't really matter anymore but as a fail safe where he can't violate any of them. @@voidseeker4394

@@the_dook2145 Agree. When the composer gets a good picture to work on with strong stories or potential iconic scenes, they can get a theme together and build it through there. One good example of a scene that looks iconic, even though the film was pants, was the introduction to the starship Enterprise in dry dock in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Very bombastic tune with naval military style theme (Jerry Goldsmith?) The theme to the tune is very important, get that right and the rest becomes easy. If you listen to the Robocop theme, initially it sounds kind of corporate techy. Then when you get further in, it takes on a Lone Ranger kind of theme. Very strong tune.

There’s so many great little aspects to just this little clip. Bob Morton Watching Murphy’s test run with the machine pistol, with his fingers stuck in his ears , yet loving every moment of it; the person that says, “it’s super cop," the chief of the precinct tossing Murphy the car keys and Robocop replying “Thank you;" Murphy’s car producing sparks as it rolls out of the precinct garage for his first nights’ work as “Supercop!” This movie is such a classic!

Man I absolutely LOVE the way the developers of the "RoboCop: Rogue City" game recreated the entire police station including the caged area where they're running diagnostics on him at the start as well as the shooting range - complete with the exact same black humanoid targets! Plus, shooting that gun in-game feels great, it's got just the right amount of oomph. Highly recommended for any fan of this movie.

This might not be the most high-brow movie out there, but it is a very special movie indeed. The acting, the dialogue, the directing, the cinematography, the score - all of it lifts these 100 minutes of science-action far, far above and beyond what could have easily amounted to a turd on a stick. In my opinion, Robocop ranks among the best of the best. And while I'm on a complimentary roll: I still don't know how Peter Weller and Moni Yakim did it. Those staccato robotic movements I mean. I've re-watched many a scene wherein Weller simply turns his robotic head and locks it in place -- and each and every time I find myself inexplicably transfixed. While it's just some guy in a costume turning his head for Christ's sake! That, for me, is what art attains: a kind of beauty that invites you to explain it, yet leaves you at a loss of words. There's a lot of that in this movie.

You've put my own feelings into words. I have watched Cinema from anywhere it is made and have come to appreciate with great enthusiasm all that it can create. Still, I comeback to a movie I watched as a child and only started to grasp in early adulthood. From just about every aspect of production, this is rock solid and is a masterstroke. The pinnacle still for me of the "Ghost in the Machine" Even just Robocop's entrance in the police station, the reaction of the cops and the simple sound of those footsteps and obscuring Murphy's figure behind the glass. He looks like Frankenstein's monster, a giant. Brilliant, brilliant stuff.
