I really regret for the inconvenience caused. Although, I presume, all the videos have been tried to be kept at maximum quality possible. Pencil is easier for me to explain by encircling and pointing things out. You can definitely ask out all the doubts you have with you in the comments section.

Shouldn't we do the checking with the gear too, instead of just the pinion?

Adhitya The gear is under a lot more torque than the pinion, due to lower RPM. So, the contact and bending stresses for the gear would be higher than a pinion's. So why check the pinion instead of the gear?

Material Selection is based on the type of question. If the material is not specified in the given problem, Steel or cast iron (data available widely) of any grade or alloy composition maybe selected from page 8.5 in the data book. Although the choice is solely dependent on you and you can select any material of your choice, just check whether or not all the values are present to plug into the different formulas.
