Gosh is poor Barber-Ous unlucky. Out of ALL of the robots it could have faced in this heat, it had to face the seeds in the first round. Imagine if it took Kat 3's, Major Tom's or Kliptonite's spot? I theorise it could have become an eventual heat finalist.

Hot take: If Major Tom doesn't pit itself, it would defeat Kat III. Looked to actually be a pretty even fight up until the pit. Kat III's ax looked pretty inaccurate, and wasn't handling any better than Major Tom. Moot point though, theres no way Major Tom beats the legendary driving of Kim Davis's Panic Attack.

Ah Heat J. In my opinion one of the weaker heats of Series 5, but that's not saying it's bad when it has so many amazing heats to stand up to. Kat 3 and Mini Morg. I have to say, I kinda like Mini Morg's super compact design compared to all of the other versions. Looks kinda cute :P. This is the point where the Kat series of robots actually become semi-decent though. That said, both of these bots were super sluggish here and Kat 3's axe getting stuck halfway wasn't really on by Series 5. The wedge design of Kat 3, despite being impractically steep, was always gonna give them an advantage over Mini Morg, as proven by the ease with which it pitted Mini Morg. Monad and Tiberius. I think Monad and Bee-Capitator are the two bots in the running for the worst robot of Series 5. Cavernous ground clearance, no real weaponry. Embarrassing really. Tiberius here asserts itself as the best of the 'Razer clones' , although I think a stiff breeze could probably have beaten Monad so it's not THAT impressive yet. Kliptonite and Major Tom. The successors to these bots would go on to meet again in Series 7 in the round 1 melee with Tsunami and X-Terminator, and I think we all know what happened there. Kliptonite looked meh (Although better than their series 7 entry to be completely honest) and Major Tom was a T O P M E M E. Somehow the major manages to keep its record up to this point of not going out in the first round, though again through no skill of its own. Major Tom's circuit ISN'T dead...yet. Barberous vs Panic Attack. Probably the closest PA has come to being beaten without actually losing up to this point. For a newcomer especially Barberous put on a decent show, causing some actual damage to PA. That said, PA stood up surprisingly well given its aluminium and polycarb construction, and a big spinning plastic cylinder is only gonna need a little poke with solid steel forks to really fuck it up, which is exactly what happened to Barberous. From then on it was easy pickings for PA, espicially with Kim Davis' driving which was even more on point than usual in this heat. Major Tom faces a very similar bot to the one in the last fight, only actually reliable. "50/50 chance" say the teams. Good of the Kat 3 team to humour the Major Tom lads, but I think even they knew they had it in the bag there.Saying that, I doubt they predicted they were gonna win like THAT. First Shredder, now Major Tom. Seems like some of the teams were still getting used to the pit that could go down at any time this series :D Tiberius oddly coming into the arena with some bizarre frame on the back of the bot for this fight, I assume to try and aid self righting (Despite this version not having a srimech from what I can gather) or to try and stop it being flipped in the first place. They did actually give Panic Attack a bit of a run for its money here, easily the best fight of the heat. Good driving from both teams, and a relatively even match, but when it comes to a match of sheer control you can't beat Kim Davis. Kat 3 and Panic Attack "So far you've really relied on your driving, Kim" says Phillipa, as though that's not ALWAYS what Panic Attack has been about. Then again, she certainly got here judgment of the fight right "Good luck..you're gonna need it" is certainly right for the Kat 3 team. Sadly for them, said luck didn't appear, and Kim Davis, as per usual, effortlessly dumps them into the all-pervasive abyss that is the pit of oblivion.

No idea how mini morg was ranked 19! Yes I know they got a series 4 heat final, but, so did bulldog breed and steel avenger. Plus, they're ranked 1 above mousetrap... an actual heat winner...

I do love the Mega Morg/Mini Morg team, because how can you not love the angriest Welsh choirboys ever? That said, their robots appear to have the turning circle of Jupiter - that was a much better axe than Kat 3, but manoeuvrability is key in Robot Wars, and that was Dorian Caudy's downfall. RIP to the big guy though, definitely. One of my guilty pleasures of a team. My new nomination for the worst machine in the series - Monad. The hilarious petrol engine - was it Prometheus from S3 Internationals that last made that level of racket in the arena, and armour literally on the verge of falling off. Rearing up every time they went near the throttle, bloody hell. Kat 3 or Mega Morg could have taken it, giving an Engineering feat like Tiberius against it is just painful. I liked the look of Kliptonite but looks like they just all died, and at the end of the day the machine needs to actually work to go anywhere. Major Tom's disc wasn't bad for that era either - laughable today of course, but back then it was doing some noticeable damage to Klip. Barber-Ous, ouch. The only machine to have successfully done a full body Horizontal Spinner, I was a little nervous coming into that fight, and holy hell if that could have been a shock exit for PA. This was a fight I was sure PA won, I seem to recall it being in the Series Semis, but at what cost, dammit. Wonderful battle between a unique machine and one of the best control bots the UK has ever seen. Again, if Barberous had anyone (other than perhaps Tiberius) it probably would have walked it. So this was the 'funniest fight ever'? I'm still waiting for the joke, unless it was Kat 3. Major Tom actually had a death hum, though 35mph tip speed is fairly pathetic, as I mentioned before. It actually looked like it did damage to the back of Kat 3, and then it was in the wrong place at the wrong time for the pit. Alas. Good sports on both sides, but Kat 3... I never really got. It wasn't a good machine to back up its' gimmicks like Apollo nowadays and gimmick-wise it was not nearly as good as Sir Chromalot or Plunderbird. Major Tom at least had a machine that WORKED. Here comes an unpopular opinion - Sam Smith is wasted on Carbide's team. Dave Moulds takes all the credit, and drives the machine while Sam basically has to rev up the death blade, and his driving skill here makes me think he'd be better off taking Photon Storm back off Ed Hoppitt, converting it back to Tiberius 4 and doing his own thing. We'd get the crusher that Razer's fans want to see again, and it would make a cracking rivalry match-up. We might even see Sam smile at some point! Tiberius did fall foul of the same grip-and-hold rule that Razer flaunted so well at times, but seeing as Panic Attack is also a control bot who I'm sure had it lifted for more than 30 seconds, and I think Shunt tried to intervene at one point, I'm willing to forgive it in this battle - unlike in the fight vs M2 in Series 7 but I've beat that drum enough. I would much rather this was the heat final, again, I didn't get the joke in the previous fight. In fairness to Kat 3 now, I think their axe did some more damage to PA's srimech than perhaps we might have been able to see (what we might call the Gabriel effect) and Panic Attack would not let them go - perhaps they couldn't in a sense. The 30-second pinning rule was not often enforced, and maybe it was Karma that the robot that beat Panic Attack so emphatically in Series 7 was the one that had perfected the 'open the pit then dump them in' - Tough As Nails. Worthy winners though, Kim Davies is a great driver and PA's had some evolution behind it. Here's hoping we see it again even if only in the live events.

I do agree about Carbide. Tbh I don't get why Sam isn't the driver, because he has shown that he is better than Dave. I know Carbide doesn't necessarily NEED the best driver given how powerful the spinner is, but it would definitely help in those closer bouts, or the ones where the spinner stops working. Dave is an excellent engineer, but his driving could sometimes do with some work.

Well, Panic Attack is the only bot I really rate in this heat. Mini Morg and Kat 3's axes remind me of a couple of grannies battling it out with handbags. Surprisingly good control from Kat 3 to pit Mini Morg though. Tiberius and Monad is kinda interesting, two crushers, though Tiberius (a Razer copy) was way the more manouvreable and aggressive. Kliptonite promptly broke down, is this the first fight Major Tom has won? Barberous was certainly - different, though I think never likely to do much damage to Panic Attack. In fact most of Panic Attack's attention seemed to be focussed on trying to figure out how to get hold of Barberous. Major Tom faces yet another axebot in Kat 3, though possibly a more effective one than Kliptonite. But this was possibly the most hilarious finish to a fight in the whole series - Major Tom pushes Kat 3 into the pit release button then promptly reverses onto the pit as it descends... Now after the comic relief, something more serious. Tiberius 2 is probably the most dangerous bot in this heat, as far as Panic Attack is concerned. And Panic Attack, low and flat, the easiest target for a vertical crusher like Tiberius to grip and damage, if it can catch it. As Kim Davis said, "if they grab us, we've had it." And it was a close thing,Tiberius got one pinch on Panic Attack, without doing significant damage, eventually Panic Attack picked it up and carefully carried it around and deposited it in the pit. I did notice PA lifting Shunt when Shunt's axe was dug into Tiberius - apparently they had an agreement to help each other out if they fell foul of a house robot - nice! Panic Attack vs Kat 3 - both robots have won both their fights by pitting their opponents (though Kat 3's were arguably easier). Well PA promptly caught the Kat, though it did seem to have some trouble pushing it to the pit. But the Kat had little say in the matter.

I always used to think Panic Attack's forks were a really poor man's flipper, but they do what a flipper can't; take control of a foe by lifting it off its wheels. Still, that only works with slow robots, and there's not many of those in the semi finals...

Felice Graziano its a lifter which is a different bot type that plays differently and are often an inbetween to either pushblocks or wedges in terms of how you drive them now adays, albiet with the control of the lifter. they kind of specialize in control, hell look at taz bot, who was able completely control some robots, like razer, its not gonna win every battle, but everyone who watched the old battlebots remembers it.

Major tom could have won this heat had they not fell in the pit.They could have beaten Kat 3 on a judges decision. It could have beaten panic attack if they avoid going on the forks.Then in the semini final it would have pussycat it would beat them by going for the wheels then in the next match major tom would have been defeated by firestorm.
