Biggest difference with air cooled gasoline engines, is the AFR usually needs to be more on the "rich" side to keep combustion temperatures down so the engine doesn't overheat and seize up. Liquid cooled gas engines tend to make the most amount of power at 12.5:1, but you might be looking at 12.2:1 or 12:1 for a air cooled engine, just to control combustion temperature. If the air cooled engine has high compression, you're going to have to run the AFR in the 11's. There are some naturally aspirated VW beetle engines that people have built with 11:1 compression and a high lift/high duration camshaft that they had to adjust fuel AFR to 11.5:1 to keep combustion temperatures under control, but it makes really good power for the light weight beetles they're installed in.

Keep the compression release. You can adjust the engagement speed by changing the weight of the flyweight. Grind a little material off of the edge that is farthest from the center of the camshaft. The lighter the weight, the more room's are needed to throw it over the spring tension. The amount of material you'll need to remove shouldn't be enough to change the balance of the camshaft. If it does, you can simply grind a little material from the camshaft gear that is 180⁰ from the run position of the flyweight. I did this a few years back to a 212 preditor. I had to make 3 grinds because I had to sneak up on the minimum idle. I eventually settled on an idle speed that varied slightly from 725 to 740 rpm. My clutch engagement issue was solved at just below 800 rpm. I did not need to remove any material from the back of the camshaft gear, but that was my plan 'B' if I started getting vibration. My 212 preditor has no governor at all, I removed every piece and sealed the shaft hole with a bolt. Thanks to an aftermarket, performance connecting rod and a mikuni clone, flat slide carburetor, my engine is on a yard kart. Think gocart with mud tires. At max throttle it runs 8,800 to 9,100 rpm's. I make sure to get off the throttle whenever I'm airborne or running downhill. The flywheel on my last 212 grenaded at just over 10,000 rpm. Pretty much destroyed the motor. Bent the crank and busted the case. This is the 3rd season for my new 212. So far, so good.
@thisnthat35302 ай бұрын
In stead of removing the compression release entirely, why not tweak it to disengage at a lower RPM? That way it'll assist the starter to get past that first compresseion but allow for a lower idle.

I've used CVTs on ATVs and those were fine, if a little weird. But now that I have an EV, switching gears isn't a thing anymore and I don't miss it. It's so nice to put the pedal down and just have constant torque without power bands and gear shifts.

Honestly, happy to see this come back! I really liked the small diesel engine stuff and washed to see you use advanced timing of a spark ignition with propane or something like that with the direct diesel injection set up to inject just before top dead center (but a little further because it's going to get too much head pressure and blow a gasket) to further give time for burn using a very advanced ignition timing for the propane to increase nox, that then helps burn the diesel, but I was also hoping for a Ducati rocker arm (desdromonic) second injection pump for the diesel to further burn things 😈you need to cool that injector anyways lol. A second blast of diesel should help. As for this engine I was really wondering if it would be possible to to mix liquid gas propane injectors to cool the air temp going in, then lean out the afr! Well that and what turning the engine fan cooler into a compressor once enough airflow under the car gets pulled up into the engine could do, and if you have injectors (a pulsing relay timer kind of thing, I call them macros of the analog world they just fire of a electrical signal at a constant rate timed for a specific amount of duration and pulse sequence 😁👍) of course you can feed it just fine she'll a "dishing out" of the piston heads and a little port and polish. Maybe a little head and valve "hemisphering", huh huh? Anyways thanks for the video upload, it was very nice to watch and I really enjoyed the jokes and how nice you were 😊

A note about it getting scary at 60+ mph - tire pressures are critical to this, and due to the weight bias at the rear the front pressure was pretty low (< 20 pounds). We owned one of these in the 60s and my Dad took it to a regular tire store to have a tube patched after he had a flat. Michelins in those days had inner tubes. As soon as the car got up to speed he scared himself silly. I was with him and had him pull over. The tire shop has put about 35 pounds in each tire! I let them down to the specs in the owner manual and it handled fine afterwards. Can't say that's your problem as due to the age of the car a lot of other stuff could be the issue but it's a simple and free check!
@actionjksn2 ай бұрын
Give her some boost,a nice little turbo charger is just what she needs. Someone else on KZbin did put a turbo charger on a Predator engine, so it's definitely possible. Keep the pressure relief, but modify it to kick in at a much lower pressure. You could also install a larger alternator and some extra batteries and install one of those electric powered turbos. This would be a very fun modification and you would really be able to tell the difference. I think those electric turbos are pretty cheap and they are definitely easy to install.
