#RoboticHysterectomy #hysterectomy #TotalHysterectomy
MEDICAL ANIMATION TRANSCRIPT: If you are a female and have certain problems with your reproductive organs, your doctor may recommend a robotic hysterectomy to remove your uterus. Your reproductive organs include your vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. You may need a robotic hysterectomy if you have one of the following diseases or conditions. Heavy or constant uterine bleeding, anemia and pelvic pain, cancer in your uterus, cervix, or ovaries, non-cancerous fibroid tumors in your uterus, or slipping and sagging of your uterus into your vagina due to weak or injured pelvic muscles and uterine ligaments. Before your procedure an intravenous line or IV will be started. You may be given antibiotics through the IV to decrease your chance of infection. You'll be given general anesthesia. A breathing tube will be inserted through your mouth and down your throat to help you breathe during the operation. Your surgeon will make a small incision near your belly button and insert a plastic tube called a port. Carbon dioxide gas will be pumped into your abdomen through this port. The gas will inflate your abdomen giving your surgeon more room to see and move the surgical tools. After your abdomen is inflated a high-definition camera will be inserted into this port. Your surgeon will make additional port incisions for robotic instruments as well as instruments used by patient side assistants. An assistant will insert all of the robotic tools through these ports. Unlike standard laparoscopic instruments, these tools can rotate 360 degrees and have more flexibility than the human wrist. Seated at a special console, your surgeon will operate the robotic arms and the camera with joystick-like controls and foot pedals. A computer will translate the exact movements of your surgeon's fingers into precise movements of the surgical tools. At the same time a high-definition vision system will provide a magnified three-dimensional stereoscopic view of the surgical area. Depending on your condition you may have a partial hysterectomy, in which your surgeon will remove your uterus but leave your cervix, fallopian tubes, and ovaries in place. If you have a total hysterectomy, your surgeon will remove your cervix along with your uterus. If you have a radical hysterectomy, your surgeon may also remove your fallopian tubes, ovaries, the upper part of your vagina, as well as nearby tissues such as your pelvic lymph nodes. At the end of your procedure the tiny incisions will be closed with stitches, staples, surgical glue, or closure tape dressings. After your procedure your breathing tube will be removed and you will be taken to the recovery area for monitoring. You will be given pain medication as needed. You may continue to receive antibiotics through your IV. You may be released from the hospital the same day or within one day after the procedure.

Wow I had this surgery due to a large tumor on my uterus and recurring cysts on my ovaries. It was explained to me how it was going to be done but to see how it was done is amazing. I don’t regret it at all. I had to take pain pills for about a week but after that I was able to manage the pain with Tylenol. I healed quickly and my quality of life is so much better. I used to dread when it was time for my periods because there was so much heavy bleeding and pain. I endured that for years. I’m happy I had the surgery.

I had my surgery on 7/29/24 . Woke up in extreme pain . I had a total Hysterectomy, oophorectomy , debulking & staging , & lymph nodes removal . They gave me pain meds to help with my pain but seemed it didn’t work ? Night of post-op the pain was intense pain, felt very gassy , unable to pass gas or poop, was able to pee slowly and it burned due to having a catheter during surgery. The pressure and sharp pains with lower back pain has kept me up all night . 😢 A heating pad really helps. To anyone getting this surgery done good luck and may god speed your healing process ❤.

For those who are asking how the organs are removed, it’s somewhat simple. They’re removed through the vagina. It sounds gross and bad to someone I’m sure. But I can assure you that it isn’t that bad. I had fibroids remove through my vagina and it only hurt a little. The part that hurt the worst for me was when the doctor/surgeon inserted and inflated the Foley bulb with saline.

I have also had fibroids removed. I have a bit of the op on a disc courtesy of my surgeon. 🙂 According to my surgeon the fibroid (my first one) was quite large and would be sliced into pieces, similar to how a delicatessen cuts meat, and they would remove as much as possible. Any bits left would come out when I went to the loo. The second lot I had removed were small and easily done.

I'm on day 5 of recovery after this procedure. I'm 27 and I've been talking about getting a hysterectomy for 10 years. I had severe dysmenorrhea with pain so bad I would throw up. I asked my surgeon for pictures. She got lots and they're very cool! I also asked for my uterus back after pathology is done with it and so far they've agreed! I'm excited to look this stupid organ in the face. Recovery has been a breeze! I've had very little pain and no trouble walking or climbing stairs. Anyone planning on getting this procedure should drink lots of water and electrolytes in the days before. You'll want protein drinks every meal after surgery and at least 2000mL/64oz of water per day. Take a dose of miralax every day for a week before and a week after. Take GasX three times a day for a week after. Do not lift more than 10lbs for 6 weeks. Listen to your body and walk around several times a day. That's it! Happy healing!

IF the uterus is not too large, it can be removed via the small opening in the abdomen. If the uterus is enlarged, (due to fibroids or other reasons) it is safer to remove it through an open hysterectomy through an abdominal incision made at the bikini line. Talk to your surgeon when the need for a hysterectomy is advised.

I just had a hysterectomy procedure and it was done through an incision in the lower abdomen. The uterus/ovaries/tubes were all removed through that incision because the doctor discovered a large cyst in the uterus. It was a conventional surgery and I had to stay in the hospital for two days. Currently recovering the surgery. Interestingly came across this video and learn about robotic hysterectomy but in my case it would not work.

i had the radical one nov. of 2020. although my incisions were a little different placement. i had a 5th one higher than my belly button and to the left. Probably due to the fact that I had my son c section and my tubes tied. i went home outpatient.that day. the biggest problem I had was they used adhesive to hold the incisions together and one didn't hold and leaked and i had to get tests to make sure nothing was wrong. then i had a visiting nurse pack the incision and found out i was allergic to most adhesives. but i would recommend this surgery if your dr says to have it. i had a longer recuperation time. but i also had pre-cancer with my pap smear.

I had a complete one . Cut my belly open. I only had an inlarged overy and no signs of anything else. They took everything out. Uterus ,ovaries ,cervix I don't know about the urethra or anything else but that's what they took. I thought I was going to kill myself .because It was the worst I've ever felt in my life for years. I was 56 years old. menopause symptoms were starting to subside when they did surgery. it came back tenfold and they would not give me anything for my problem. I was so hot I thought I would burst into flames. I lost good friends because I was crazy acting, no one wanted me around, I was enraged. Depressed, crying at a drop of an hat. Couldn't sleep and still can't. My insomnia is very high and I'm up all night still. After surgery I called to make an appointment with my doctor but she had quit her practice. Before surgery I was trying to find a meeting to find out about , what this surgery intailed, but the hospital scheduled surgery already like not even a month later. It was not an emergency . But it played out like it was. I think this was uncalled for, and I was railroad to get this done, I had no support from anyone. Even my Son's say , my personality changed alot.. No one seemed to understand what I was going through especially myself.. that was now twenty years ago. Still can't sleep. I have high B/P, diabeties comes and goes, can't seem to regulate my system.. I stay to myself most of the time..
