Many boats use this form of steerage. Agreat extra for brupeg navy. Fiji may have refuelling issues. But voyage planning can help anyone who is interested. Nearly bought a NZ boat in Gladstone.

Dear Jess, I am so sorry for your recent loss. May I suggest a memorial Plaque on board Brupeg, in honour of your dear mum?. On another note, the Auto pilot is a wonderful tool to have on board. It will make navigating that much less stressful.

Condolences on your mom peacefully passing. Take the neccessary time to cherish your time with her. Congrats Dame and Duncan for installing and fine tuning the donated auto pilot. More clean-up and wiring reorganization in the wheel house. Time for some sea trials.

Jesse I lost my Mom 16 year's ago and I miss her as much now as then. I still talk to her all the time and imagine I'm hearing her respond back. I just keep remembering that I'll see her again one day, we'll all be back together one day. I'm 60 now and the thing I dislike the most is in the year's to come I'm gonna leave my 3 kid's and my 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandkid and don't want that on them. I'll put you in my prayers tonight and I'll be thinking of you so hang in there it'll get easier. 👍

Auto steering is one of the best advances that's happened to boating - but I wouldn't worry too much about getting it to follow way-points. As you say, you've got to keep watch anyway, and you'd always want to check that a course change happened at the right time and to the right new course. It's quicker to do it yourself, and occasionally pressing a button gives you something to do!

While we all hate not buying locally the reality is why pay 10X the value to do so, I am sure the marine shops are buying from the same sources and hiking the retail prices...I am also purchasing quite a bit of my electrical and wiring bits and bobs online for the ongoing work on my old boat. I recently purchased a huge-pile of electrical connectors for the same price as I would have paid for a dozen at the marine shop...always feel a bit guilty however won't be able to do the work and get other jobs done if I don't, Condolences Jess and family, I also lost my Mum here in NZ on last Tuesday afternoon, a huge loss for families when they lose a mum

Many of the din solenoid connectors have built in suppressor rectifier diodes. Hydraulic hard lines are much cheaper than hydraulic hoses and they are much more reliable. The purpose of that second hydraulic solenoid is probably for a secondary control station on deck for hauling nets or docking.
@allan80supraАй бұрын
The other set of solenoids maybe setup for fast rate change or to vent the return line, would definitely check with a hydraulics specialist. Jess sorry for your loss, almost a year since my mum passed it really is a $hit show :(

You should have a stop on the rudder arms and the arms should be at the stop before the cylinders bottom,the best is to make a beam between rear and forward partitions,as now the cylinders push on the head of the rudder post and bend the stern tube

Interesting when you go to full stb or ful port the rudder shaft housing looks under a fair bit of deflection from the inward side ram maxing out at full retraction and then the extending ram continuing to extend a little. Have a rewatch of the rudder shaft housing and how much it deflects at full lock either side aroud the 5min mark. Just something worth casting an eye over.

5:00 When the rudder is rotated to hard-port/hard-starboard the rudder post itself is being moved/twisted under the pressure of the hydraulic rams, this will eventually cause metal fatigue and failure, it is probably needed to reinforce the rudder post by adding gussets and to ensure that your hyraulic rams stop extending before the rudder comes to a hard stop at the extremes. You can see it moving the rudder post again at 5:42
@quarlow1215Ай бұрын
Yes, I noticed that as well and was going to mention it. Very hard on the bushings too. What a game changer autopilot is. We sure noticed it when the pilot on the fishbowl would fail and we had to hand steer. Occasionally it would just stop working. Those old ones were not as reliable as they are now. Sorry for your loss Jess. Thoughts and prayers are with you. ❤

so sorry for your loss, trying to think of something positive in a heartbreaking situation I can only think of your mum bringing you into this world to enjoy you life with purpose and how upset she would be that with her loss would greatly depreciate your enjoyment of life, what I'm trying to say is your grieving now but soon start living for the both of you knowing it would put a smile on your mums face, if you ever wondered why us daft brits with our stiff upper lip is about, well this is one situation that needs it, are thoughts and love are with you.

Ma y good memories of your mother. Worked for 4 yrs in Gladstone. Paw paws are nice. Walked to facing Is. Town of 1770 on way. But developed now. Prawn trawlers there. Use to live high up on a hill with a coconut tree out the back. Should be good test of what you need travelling by sea. Fished on a spit at tannum sands & sea washed away . Turtles. Yes also use to work at the refinery. Not a perfect history of environment. Probably the reason I moved to Tasmania. Might find more mechanical shop in that area. Was there before the big gas installation.
@normanboyes4983Ай бұрын
If I may chip in on the autopilot. There is a bit more to this than meets the eye and while you have achieved some functionality a full set to work procedure is needed - is there one on the manufacturers website? The key parameters are: 1. Establishing midships or neutral rudder (and the value that represents on the feedback device/circuit). 2. Maximum rudder authority to Port (and the value that represents on the feedback device/circuit). 3. Maximum rudder authority to Stbd (and the value that represents on the feedback device/circuit). 4. Repeatability tests to prove 1-3 are achieved consistently. Then you can move on to the electronic compass input to the control system which does have to be done at sea dynamically.
@ProjectBrupegАй бұрын
Thanks, this will all be part of our shake down testing, happening very soon
@ronlowes2193Ай бұрын
I’ll argue that autopilot is still worthwhile on a smaller boat. I’ve a 7 metre tinny and it’s very much a good investment
@jimcalver-oj4xfАй бұрын
You should adjust or get a longer hydraulic hose as it looks like it rubs on the rudder arm. Could wear a hole in it and let the joy juice out. /edit cleaned my eyes and saw no issues later in the video 😮
@matthewsellers82Ай бұрын
I work on a 47m boat we to have two independent electric pump/solenoid systems with their own reservoir tanks, a manual wheel and the ability to tie into an emergency aux hydraulic system. In the case of an electrical fault we also have a manual selector valve. Once a month we do a drill using hand held radios between the bridge and steering room. Losing steering at sea could be disastrous.

You can get quality name brand connectors for wholesale prices from the likes of element14 and mouser. Shipping will kill you for small orders, but if you're looking for quality components that have supporting datasheets and tooling, that's where you go.
