Dear Jess and Damian, So nice to see you enjoying the tour with these small electric scooters and it was really a nice tour. A pity that there’s a leak with the propeller shaft and hopefully that’s not a too big issue to solve. Willeke and I look forward to your next vlog and send you love from The Netherlands

When I was driving trucks around Australia the service intervals went from 15,000kms to 20,000kms. The one thing I noticed with the longer service intervals was after I had passed 15,000kms I would end up putting 5 litres plus in the engine. The truck engines wouldn’t use a drop of oil until they had passed the 15,000kms mark. Do you mix your used oil in with the diesel and run it through the engine?

@ProjectBrupeg 14 сағат бұрын
For us we could mix the old oil in with fuel but for the 7L of fuel we gain we open ourselves up to a bunch of risk if we haven’t filtered the oil enough and then our 100k drive train is put on the line. Not sure what our service interval of 250hrs equals in kms but it would be pretty close to driving at 100km for 250hrs I would think.

I saw a tractor with a butterfly oil drain valve vibrate its self open, the end result wasn’t good. Consider a dry break fitting after the valve and the corresponding fitting on your drain hose. Belts and braces and all that..

Not only will the oil on the gasket of the filter help with screwing it on, but it will make it possible to remove without demolishing the filter in pieces.

you could do with something temporary to catch the grease flying around off the shaft. I used to always change my cars oil when it was hot, a bit painful if you touch anything but just being carful helps (you only grab the exhaust manifold once🤣 ) Great update 2x👍

After I drain my engine oil, I pour a gallon of diesel thru the motor, to rinse it out. I've noticed the fresh oil stays clearer for a longer time. I also use an engine flush and because I want my engine to last, I add Cera Tec. Happy boating.

Oil dump straight into the tank is a nice setup but i like to have a look at the oil as a basic health check eg metal, moisture etc Maybe with such a nice expensive engine it would even be worth sending samples for testing occasionally?

In oil, the "W" stands for "Winter" using the SAE nomenclature. In this case it has to be lower in viscosity than the standard for SAE15 oil at 0C. Then it has to be higher in viscosity than the SAE45 standard at a high temperature.

Hi Guy's, on a totally different topic, I am curious and wondering, with Australian Biosecurity laws how have you set up a plan to take the ships most important member with you out of Australian waters, I know back in 96 my Canadian ex wanted to bring her cat and dog to Western Australia and not only the cost of quarantine fees and the time in QT was a huge inconvenience, but as you can imagine the effects on the animals. How are you dealing with the interest from customs even taking puss outside Australian waters and turning around and coming home surely safeguards to Australia let alone other countries will come into play. I could imagine if she got loose in antartica the perceived risks involved to the wildlife would not be taken lightly by the authorities. Tony from Rural Western Australia 🇦🇺🦘 ×× PS I am a big cat lover more concerned about your cats well being **

Hi Tony, once we leave Aussie we won’t be back. Most of the countries we plan to head to count seatime crossing on the boat as quarantine. And we will also limit where we go if their laws prevent us going in without putting her through too much. We won’t be sending her off boat for quarantine

@@ProjectBrupeg that is good news to an extent, bad news to another, WHAT you won't be coming back? That's sad, but I'm sure eventually it will be nice to get back to NZ when you do. More items to check off from Jes' list: exhaust heat, exhaust rattle, full speed heat monitoring. Yours: grease nipple size, relocate the filters and build a fuel/oil storage cabinet. @@ProjectBrupeg Does the Genny have a low oil cut off switch? and a too hot cut off or alarm? I think you start and stop it and monitor from the wheelhouse. How much old oil is held in the sump? BTW check the tightness of the filter a few times over the month's and put a blob of paint at the top point of the filter or paint UP on it.. indelible marker's don't like the heat. I'm known to put blobs of paint on other bits to detect movement and the date on filters.. And NEVER put cold oil in a hot engine... I saw a neighbour putting cold oil in his wife's very hot engine and politely said... he replied it "doesn't matter" a few months later I heard his wife's 4 or 5 year old coupé sports car.. (£30K+ second hand) the oil fed valve adjuster's had got bunged up.. easyish to fix.. and the big end's were really knocking.. also easy fix.. I know that there would be a list of other things to replace.. I thought at the time a recon block etc.. and a good clean. a week later.. I saw her getting out of a cheap car.. Her pride and joy had been taken as scrap.. told beyond economic repair (they got stitched up?) the yard that got it must have made a few £'s.. Nice to see the yellow scaffolding foam tube head protection. Writing OUCH seems more effective than Danger Mind Your Head.. but probably won't pass health and safety.

The other problem you can get with overfull engine oil is the crankshaft can actually hit the oil collected in the sump. That can areate the oil which greatly reduces its lubricity, and it robs power. Its not so much hydraulic lock as itll just blow out crankcase fill plugs and seals.
