Well let me give you some information; a program launched at Imperial College London called "Project Malaria" wanted to greatly reduce the population of mosquitos giving out Malaria, hence the project's name. Using genetically modified(GM) mosquitos - their mission was a success as they did end up killing most of them off in sub-Saharan Africa, which was deserved, considering they killed half a million people there yearly alone, if you want to know how they did it read an article on Project Malaria. Mosquitos can go extinct that's an easy feat with our technology and research, if they were to go extinct, they would slightly decrease the population of some of the few animals who feed off mosquitos, meaning sure it would change our environment, but not by a huge difference at all. If we wanted we could take down every single one of those mosquitos in the entire world; the issue is people are arguing whether or not we as humans are allowed to just get rid of a species entirely.
