Rod Temperton who wrote the Michael Jackson hits "Off The Wall", "Rock With You" and "Thriller" (!) as well as "Stomp" by the Brothers Johnson. Temperton was a favorite of Quincy Jones. He also wrote "Give Me The Night" from George Benson and the other Heatwave hits as well as "Baby, Come To Me" and "Ya Mo Be There". Just a stellar songwriter and producer.

The more you think about it the quicker you realize that the 70s will never be touched again, musically. So many genres .. so many masters .. so many great songs.
@geoffthomas3238
@geoffthomas3238 Жыл бұрын
When you really stop and look at it the 70s truly are untouchable in music. So much at such hi quality. 70s soft rock, 70s R&B, 70s Hard Rock, 70s Singer/Songwriters, 70s Funk, 70s Disco (sure we all acted like we hated it but revisiting now great stuff) 70s Country, 70s Southern/Country Rock, The Beatles split in 1970 and in steps another Englishman Elton John to dominate the charts in the first half of the decade, Sammy Davis Jr had chat hits including a #1 in the 70s and the great crooners crooned through the decade. 70s brought the great Soul sound particularly from Philly. It was the decade of Soul Train. And a young lady named Linda Ronstadt who could sing all of this stuff and more better than anybody else. There just isn’t a decade before or since with the great music in genre after genre the music you still hear in movies and commercials today. 70s rule.
@michlkwitz
@michlkwitz Жыл бұрын
It was about the music back then. Today, the record company execs. don't give a damn whether what they put out is good or bad, they just care that it sells. And if it doesn't sell, well there's a whole line of bad singers lined up outside the door for their 15 minutes of Autotuned fame. And yes, I acknowledge just how jaded I've become in the last decade.

@@Lovejazz01 I read a quote from some industry person that said autotune will go away "when kids stop buying it". Well, if the algorithms only feed them more autotune, then it's all they hear. From humble beginnings in Cleethorpes UK and replying to an ad in Melody Maker Rod Temperton was to become the keyboardist for Heatwave. The band was made up of American, Swiss, Jamaican, Czech and English musicians, but the group originated in London. Rod Temperton was their principal songwriter and what a guy. He also wrote, Off The Wall, Thriller, Rock With You, Baby Be Mine for Michael Jackson, Give Me The Night, Love X Love for George Benson, Razzamatazz by Quincy Jones, Spice Of Life by Manhattan Transfer, Stomp by Brothers Johnson, and plenty others. An amazing songwriter, sadly no longer with us ❤️

The type of conversation you hear in the background as the song ends is spot on to the kind of things you would actually hear. Try "Groove Line", "Always and Forever", and "Mind Blowing Decisions". I was 16, there was no drinking age, we were living in a dorm at the University of Salamanca, and going to the disco quite a bit. Heatwave’s Groove Line was a big hit. Also, back then Saturday Night Live was the big movie in Europe. It was released in the US in 1977 but in the old days it usually was released internationally the next year, so 1978 was a good year for disco in Spain. I hope your next Heatwave reaction is Groove Line. Thanks for this reaction.

Mid 70's British Disco .... Along with the likes of Hi-Tension, The Real Thing etc. .... Heatwave were the very best. Bought all their stuff as a kid. Boogie Nights, The Groove Line, Jitterbugging, Too Hot to Handle, Always and Forever, Mind Blowing Decisions etc. .... Yeap, had them all. Pioneers of Disco ❤️

Aside from Boogie Nights (which never failed to get people dancing!), The Groove Line was another good track. But one of, if not their most successful songs was, 'Always & Forever' - which isn't disco - but was definitely one that DJs used to put on at the end of the night for that last smoochy dance for couples. I think you'll love it.

Remember hearing this in my high school cafeteria. It’s funny back then there were clear lines drawn you either were Disco or you were Rock. I never fell under any as I loved music, R&B, Rock an Disco loved to dance but loved going to Rock clubs an watching Twisted Sister or Ramona’s. This song brings back great memories to a time that just seemed uncomplicated it was a great time to live

Now this is a good example of Disco Funk. This was their debut album in 1976 and Boogie nights was a huge hit and stlii is to this day, but also the slow jam from the same album, Always and Forever (which gave us youngsters a chance to get up close to boys/girls we were attracted to on the dance floor without the awkwardness) was really really big as well. They followed that up in 1977 with another big funky hit song "The Grooveline" , one of my faves.... I'm so glad you guys discovered them because they were such a big part of our younger days...Blessings!

I was a teenager when this song came out. It was my boyfriend’s favorite song. As soon as I heard the harp come on I would crack up cause I knew the radio was going to be cranked up and he was already drumming on the steering wheel of the car. Love it.

I guess this generation is not used to hearing built up intros because the intro is so beautiful & the harmonizing alone is epic the transition you don’t hear music like this anymore.

Same with movies. Kids can't let a movie build. They want explosions right away. I heard actor Ralph Fiennes say a movie like The English Patient couldn't be made today. That movie is not that old. But that's how much things have changed.

You'll like "Groove Line", because it is the same genre, but "Always and Forever" you will both love. The lead singer has a silky-smooth voice, and you will really love his falsetto. You'll want some alone time afterward.

Heatwave was one of my favorite old school groups. Their "Too Hot to Handle" was absolutely outstanding; hit after hit. "Always and Forever" is one of their big hits and an altime wedding song. "Grooveline" was one of my favorites.

Groove Line is really good too. There were no real dance moves in the 70s. You just feel the music, like Jordan does. You two will love Shame by Evelyn Champagne King

In the 70's and 80's, it was move like you felt. How do you think "the robot" became a dance? Love you reacting to this kind of music. Keep on jammin'!

RIP to founding members Johnnie Wilder Jr., His brother Keith, and Rod Temperton. Temperton left the band and went on to write hit records for many artists, from The Brothers Johnson to Kool and the Gang and the King of Pop himself. By the way, nobody, and I mean nobody shoulder dancers like Amber👍

Heatwave yes! This song was a banger back in the day. They also had one of the most romantic songs ever in my opinion "Always & Forever" There is a live version. The lead singer Johnnie Wilder Jr. is so good that he sounds better in the live version.
