Carly Simon has such a beautiful voice. She sang hands down the greatest Bond theme IMO. "Nobody Does it Better" Whenever I think of James Bond the 2nd thing that pops into my head is that song. The first being Sean Connery.

Yeah, same here 😊, I'm not young, I grew up through all the Bond films as they were released - ALL of them - and Connery and "Nobody Does it Better" insta-crystallize "Bond" for me before any other thought when it comes to James Bond. Even though the song was not for a Connery film, it was Roger Moore's time. 😊. Although, Shirley Bassey, too . . . toss-up here maybe for me when I think about it . . . 🤔 feeling conflicted now 🙃 . . . Bassey and Simon, equally fab . . .

100% must see duet. Carly Simon and her husband James Taylor doing Mockingbird. This was FUN. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoiwkIVja6Z-fqc Also, you guys should do a day for duets now and then. Tom Petty also did a great one with Stevie Nicks. "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmbMaJ1mi814ftk Stevie wanted to be in Tom Petty's band. I think she had a thing for him but he was married and true blue. He also had a strict policy of no chicks in the band. So they were just friends, and the wife too I believe. But altho he said no to including her officially in the band, he did bend and allow this duet, And in this song you can see how hard it would be to resist Stevies Charms. How do you say no to Stevie Nicks. But WHAT A GREAT INSTINCT TOM. SHE WOULD HAVE EATEN YOUR SOUL. Tom was a no drama kind of guy. Tom Petty died fairly recently and it would be nice to feature him on your channel. There are lots of fantastic duets, I can think of a dozen others, but that is a good start.

Carly never thought of herself as a singer. She was reluctant to perform in front of an audience. James Taylor convinced her she had a beautiful voice, and all the songs she'd been writing for other artists she could do better herself. The 70's really was the age of the singer/songwriter and produced so many amazing talents. You're finding this out for yourselves again 50 years later.

Carole King is the next artist in this genre you must listen to. You could do a month's worth of reactions at least, using only songs written by Carole King & Gerry Goffin (one-time husband & wife, one of the all time great songwriting teams!!) and recorded by a wide variety of artists since the late 50s. In 1970, Carole decided to get on stage & sing her songs herself, & her second album, Tapestry, was one of the best selling albums of all time!! I Feel The Earth Move is on that LP. So is You've Got A Friend, Natural Woman, & It's Too Late. Extraordinarily talented songwriter. Fabulous voice to sing those wonderful songs!!

I still remember that summer of 1970; I was 13, this song haunted me in a most welcome way; the melody, emotional chord changes, sparse, cavernous instrumentation and the subject matter, something I was witnessing in my own parents' marriage to which I could quietly relate. Over fifty years later, I'm an old man, this song is just as potent as ever.

I’m literally listening to Tapestry (whole album) right now, wondering why Amber and Jordan haven’t reacted to Carole King yet 🤔. It’s literally one of the best-selling and written albums of all time, start to finish! She’s a brilliant songwriter, who wrote or co-wrote every song on the album, and the woman can play a mean piano. The musicianship on this album is Grade A, and to say that you’ll both love this album is an understatement. Ooohh Carole’s got me in my feelings right now lol, sorry Carly.

Powerful women... Lesley Gore - "You Don't Own Me" 1963 was my coming to age song. Helen Reddy - I Am Woman 1972 one of the biggest women empowerment songs that became an anthem for the women’s liberation movement.

Carly Simon wrote the MUSIC to this song but NOT the lyrics. Jacob Brackman wrote the lyrics. Carly had the tune but couldn't find the lyrics for it, so she asked her friend Jacob and he was able to fit lyrics to the music. Carly has admitted to having incredible stage fright, so this video of her singing live is a rare gem.

For next Female Friday you 2 need to react to “It’s Too Late” by Carole King. It’s also about failed relationships, it’s very deep. It was the biggest hit off of one of the best selling albums ever, her 1971 masterpiece “Tapestry”. You might not know the name, but chances are you’ve heard this song before. In the 70’s it was impossible to to avoid hearing this song everywhere, and it still gets played on radio stations all the time.

Keep in mind this was an era when little girls were brought up with marriage and stay at home with kids was the only goal. Women's lib was just getting started. Women couldn't have a credit card in their own name. So this song was really important to girls my age ... a message to find out who we were, make our own way and be responsible to and for ourselves only. So very glad I had all of my twenties to do that!

Yall arent gonna believe this but I wrote a report on this song *in the 8th grade* LOL! We were assigned to analyze the lyrics of a popular song. This was on an album I owned & I was always moved by its poignancy, even at that age! I knew what it was about! But the imagery & the lyrics she chooses to convey it are so unique, it's just incredibly engaging even in its inherent sadness. And then in the end, she agrees to marry him, to compromise herself anyway!!! I mean it's just a really razor-sharp indictment of society at that time, especially the upper-class society she grew up in. I think that's why her vision is so focused...she's singing about what she knows. I love this song & I'm glad you guys were as moved by it!

Eventually …hopefully, one female Friday soon you will react to kd lang... she has a rich, pure voice. When you do, be sure to listen to Crying, either the solo cover or her duet with Roy Orbison. Her cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah would also be an option, but you could check out Jeff Buckley’s version instead. Third option would be Constant Craving, her voice is also outstanding but the other two songs are better. Jann Arden Insensitive is also worth a listen. Great lyrics.

She also has a ton of deep cuts that are even better than her hit singles. Boys In The Trees Don't Smoke In Bed Halfway 'Round The World Tranquillo (Melt My Heart) He Likes To Roll You're The One In A Small Moment For Old Times Sake Safe And Sound Older Sister Misfit Grownup The Carter Family His Friends Are More Than Fond Of Robin Embrace Me You Child It Was So Easy Night Owl I've Got To Have You Share The End Those are all some of Carly's best non-singles.
