I think it's a damn shame how unappreciated Average White Band are. Their dynamic R and B sound rivals anything on the soul and funk catalogs you can think of. Try reacting to their song "Cut The Cake", THAT is a monster!

Before the band's name was official, they were the backup band for Bonnie Bramlett's first solo album. She in fact, named them Average White Band. Bonnie would be a perfect choice for Female Friday. She and her husband were known as Delaney and Bonnie and Friends. And their friends were all top studio musicians including Leon Russell, Rita Coolidge and the Dominos, from Eric Clapton's Derek and the Dominos Layla album. Among the musicians who also played and toured with them included Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Duane Allman and Dave Mason from Traffic. Perfect for Female Friday, Delaney and Bonnie's Lay Down My Burden. You'll get to hear Bonnie's magnificent voice. It's superb. Great reaction y'all!

Jay&Amber, for female Friday: Jackie DeShannon - "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" or "What the World Needs Now Is Love"!! She’s one of the early singer-songwriters. She co-wrote Put a Little Love in Your Heart. She wrote the music for her original “Bette Davis Eyes”, words by Donna Weiss. Those sleighbells are great, too. Some other funk suggestions that go great with this 1975 song are "Reach For It" by George Duke (1977), "I Got a Thing" by Funkadelic (1970), "Maybe Your Baby" by Stevie Wonder (1972), "Thank You For Talking to Me, Africa" by Sly and the Family Stone (1971), "Doin' It" by Herbie Hancock (1976), "Stuff Like That" by Quincy Jones (1978), and "Funkin' for Jamaica" by Tom Browne (1980). And y'alll need to do some female funk. Try "Which Way is Up?" by Stargard from 1977.

If you where African American back in the mid 70s the AWB song was… A Love of Your Own!!! It was on every R&B radio station in heavy rotation And played at every house party, block party and club when it came time to slow the party down and get your Grind on I’m talking serious funky soulful baby making music With a funky slow jam bass line and amazing vocals with super tight falsetto, horns and sensuous guitar licks As well a great message to young brothers on how to handle getting into a meaningful relationship One that I still remember and is the reason me and my wife have been together for 23yrs and we met 24yrs after the song was released cuz I never forgot the lyrics from when I first heard it as a 13yr old even that young I knew I’d take heed to the lyrics when I got older and I did 🔥🎼💃🏻🕺🏽🎼🔥❤️

I love this song. Back in 1975, when I sang it with my friends in high school it was great to think we were sneaking around to meet a girl that you liked. But as I got older, it hit me in a different way. I still the song for the memories and all but feel a bit like a dirty old man if someone young is around to hear singing along to it. Some will say it didn't age well. But as long as you are of the age the song was meant for, it is probably something some people could still enjoy CUT THE CAKE is one for books. And the live version of IF I EVER LOOSE THIS HEAVEN are really good if you want more. The Average White Band are really good musicians.
