This was the "B" side of his "Candle in the Wind" tribute to Princess Diana. When I first played it, I couldn't believe it! Fantastically powerful!
@robdaviesprogm

Both songs actually shared A-Side status on this one. The true B-Side was "You Can Make History (Young Again)", a song that had itself been an A-Side a year prior, though it didn't do very well.

For whatever reason, my CD single does not contain "You Can Make History". (???) @@robdaviesprogm

@@guarddave That's really interesting! Wikipedia says that "History" was the B-Side worldwide, but Google Images is showing a *lot* of back covers that don't have the song listed on there. Maybe it was only included in certain territories? I'm not sure.

Jay and Amber, This was the B-side to Candle in the Wind, the tribute to Princess Diana, in 1997. The B-side became an A-side when radio started playing the track more than the Princess Di tribute. Together, the double A-sided 45 became the biggest selling record of all time (not counting Christmas songs) and stayed at #1 for 14 weeks. I keep looking for you to listen to my all-time favorite song, "Philadelphia Freedom," which is his tribute to Billie Jean King (her tennis team was the Philadelphia Freedoms). The song is a masterpiece and was even performed by Elton on Soul Train! It's an absolute gem. And it was a huge number one hit in 1975.
@robdaviesprogm

This song was released as a double A-Side with "Candle in the Wind 1997" (the rewrite for Princess Diana). This single was what drew me into Elton's music in a way that it hadn't previously (for context, I was 13 at the time). I then went down the incredible rabbit hole that is his back catalogue. "Something About the Way" is often overlooked due to the overexposure it got at the time because it was on the Diana single. Thank you for shining some light on it.

Have you reacted to Philadelphia Freedom? Came out in '75 I think. It was def early disco and paid living homage to TSOP, the sound of Philadelphia. The TSOP sound was huge in the mid 70s. Plenty of the strings and horns in the tight orchestration.

I began hearing Elton John as a toddler. I strictly remember hearing my older siblings playing "Your Song" along side Michael Jackson's "Ben"- the first record I bought as a 45 for $1.50. There was never a time when EJ wasn't playing in my home, job, or school even! I picked up on his music instantly especially because of his outfits on television! I, like many, have literally grown up with Elton John's music as my life's soundtrack!

As a pianist, there’s nobody I enjoy more than Elton and Billy Joel. My piano teacher from 4 years old until I was 12, tried to make me play all the classical musicians, and I did, but she knew my heart wasn’t in it. She finally let me start doing one modern artist a month when I was 12. I stayed with her until I was 18 and left due college. She played at my wedding, and she played mostly modern songs. ❤️
