RIP Taylor 💔 When Dave was looking for a drummer, he asked Taylor who he thought would be a good drummer to ask, not asking HIM because Alanis was a MUCH bigger artist at the time than Foo Fighters, and he didn't think Taylor would accept. But Alanis knew Taylor would be drumming for Foos long before Dave asked, because whenever they crossed paths on the road, Alanis could see that Taylor and Dave were two peas in a pod. Taylor talks about his time playing with Alanis in her doc, Jagged. So sad that he's gone😭

Fun fact about this one: none of the events/circumstances in the song are actual ironies. Yet, that is what makes the title accurate- because the song is called Ironic, yet includes zero actual ironies, the song, in itself, is Ironic. I just adore that, so much.

Have they ever reacted to no doubt tracks? That would be a good female Friday because Gwen Stefani is the boss of that band. Then there's another old song from back in the '90s by a lady and I can't remember the name. It says nobody calls on the phone except maybe the Pope maybe in Rome. Maybe is Sarah McLaughlin but I don't know for sure cuz I wasn't around. Those would be suggestions for female Friday. Even the Go-Go's which is the only all female band that will throw music sing it and play the instruments before and there's never been another one since. I just watched the documentary on them yesterday so that's how I know. The Go-Go's would definitely be a good one for female Friday

I saw Alanis in concert in Hawaii back in the 90's, and she was amazing. She is really tiny, probably not much over 5 feet, but she has a massive stage presence! She was bouncing all over the stage like a five year old on a huge sugar rush, and she went back and forth from singing, to playing the guitar and harmonica at the same time, to pushing the drummer off the drum kit and going ballistic on the drums! She made the energizer bunny look tired and slow!

You should see the video for this as well, it's quite good. Alanis was in a lot of ways a challenge to the status quo, and I'll always love her for that. She had a real tendency to push the bounds of 'acceptable', and not even in a profane way really. She just said things that coming from a woman, made some people uncomfortable. And she should get some kind of award just for that.

Julie and I drove an hour and a half to see Tori open on the 9 weeks tour. Couldn't stay for AM's entire show, as Julie was a teacher and we had to face Friday morning. The only thing that made it easier was the vast number of female teenagers who converted a concert into a boy band show-like fan fest.

I said this last time you did Alanis... My favorite song by her is "Uninvited" from the soundtrack for City of Angels. (copied from previous post) I love the way it slowly builds with the swelling music floating around her voice... Till the full band/orchestra kicks in with the strings. If you do the live version you might not get the strings that the studio version has. The studio version uses an upright bass. This song has always reminded me of "Kashmir" by Led Zepplin in how it builds and its dynamic orchestra sound.

Gotta say it - this has never been one of my favorites of hers, probably because I've heard it too many times. There are quite a few others that, in my brain, will never grow old. You've seen her embrace her rough side ("You Oughta Know") and her playful side (this and "Hand in My Pocket"), but if you want to see another side of Alanis, a fuller, deeper, richer side, do "Uninvited". "Thank U" is also a testament to how damn brilliant she is at lyrics. If I had to pick a third to recommend, it'd be "You Learn". And PLEASE, do more 90s artists - Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, and Garbage all had (and still have) huge fanbases, and they deserve a shot at winning you over.

History has been a lot kinder to this artist (and this album) than the critics and fans of more aggressive music (who saw her songs as little more than self-indulgent temper tantrums) were when this was released in 1995. I wasn't really a fan myself (of course, this came out when I was a record store manager, and I saw and heard this album ALL DAY), but I listen to it now, and it's solid 90s pop/ rock, up there with Collective Soul or Live or Deep Blue Something or Better Than Ezra. Thanks for the trip down memory lane I didn't think I was going to enjoy . . . but did. :)

After the success of "You Oughta Know", the album's other hits helped send Jagged Little Pill to the top of the charts. "All I Really Want" and "Hand in My Pocket" followed, and the fourth U.S. single, "Ironic", became Morissette's biggest hit. "You Learn" and "Head over Feet", the fifth and sixth singles, kept Jagged Little Pill (1995) in the top 20 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for more than a year. Jagged Little Pill sold more than 16 million copies in the U.S.; it sold 33 million worldwide, making it the second biggest-selling album by a female artist (behind Shania Twain's Come On Over).

She is a poet. Her lyrics are prose, every line a tome down a rabbit hole into a multiverse of worlds within worlds. A pure artist with an original voice, both literally and artistically and geyser of creativity and imagination. She's an idea farm. Listening to ten seconds of her cures any and all traces of writers block. Her follow up album has one of my favorite word combinations ever strung together in a row for a title: Former Supposed Infatuation Junkie. This Goddess, this lioness, poet warrior, she contains multitudes.

After you did Bryan Adams the other day, it reminded me how many insanely good songs he has and I had to go on a Bryan Adams binge again. Definitely do some more Bryan Adams like Cuts like a Knife, Heaven, Somebody, Do I have to say the words, Straight from the Heart, Everything I do, and a few others.

So glad yourselves as well as others are appreciating her music. It is so easy to enjoy. Your House was a bonus track on Jagged Little Pill. She sings it A Capella. It is a great song that I bet you'll both really enjoy. I have recently watched the videos on You Tube to remind myself that it was a great discovery finding.that. great Bonus track.

Im happy for all the people who say none of the examples are ironic. You are blessed with being an optimist and positive person. Being a pessimist and expecting the worst at all times every example shows the irony of finally taking the risk and then it ends like this. That IS IRONIC. im happy for you if you missed the point it means you live an easier life than some of us!

I would disagree on this one. Too many times they have concentrated on what was going on in the video and miss some important parts of the song. I always prefer they just have the screen off and just listen.

@@BoltManiac for me, when you think about the artistry behind an artist like Alanis Morrissette it's also about she brought to the table as an artist. Not just musically but what she put out there in terms of visual content; it's an essence, a time period that she captured in her style, her music videos AND her music/lyrics. She was doing something cool, something fun and something we hadn't seen/heard before.
@BoltManiac
@BoltManiac 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrEriczamorez i can and do respect that, but in most (?) cases the single is out there well before the “official” video and fans can just enjoy the song and let what they heard sink in and think about it. In either case, most reaction video creators are making their mission to react to the song. Most do. I know some clearly don’t even look at the video on their screen while listening (whether is just be basic or one with a lot going on in the video)
