This album is exactly what we needed from Skid Row at the time. We as fans felt like metal music was on the way out, and this was SO heavy. I remember hearing the first single with my friends and we were blown away. Sebastian Bach has such an amazing voice and it is showcased well on this song. Great selection. Check out the tracks Monkey Business and the title track as well.

Metal isn't on the way out. Don't listen to radio. KZbin and Spotify have many suggestions for great bands. If you like your music really heavy with a groove, try Gojira's newest album Fortitude and specifically the track Amazonia or their album Magma or even heavier album From Mars to Sirius track Flying Whales and Heaviest Matter in the Universe. I love this band from France. This band's range from super heavy to present day almost prog rock is unique.

I'd say that hair bands were on the way out, grunge and real heavy metal were on the rise at the time. Pantera, Metallica, Ozzy all put out hit records after this
@Daniel-tl5hi8 ай бұрын
@@MattSmith-wz1xh honestly this album was a lot heavier than typical hair metal. Id put it in the real heavy metal category, but just barley. The lyrics on it were darker than regular Hair metal as well.

Rachel Bolan, the bass player, gave an interview in 2011 where he explained holding to your religious beliefs in good times and bad and that it's not easy to do that. Lines like "Why should we doubt the virgin white of fallen snow, When Faith's our shelter from the cold" definitely supports the idea. In A Darkened Room is a great next choice.

I loved watching this video and as the guitarist for "EvidenceBlack" I have to point out that Amber is the type of person that every guitarist scans the audience looking for. Her whole being instantly weaves into what the guitarist is doing and its like her soul locks into the soul of the guitarist for the length of the song. She is spiritually immersed into the chord changes and all the dynamics that the song offers. Look closely, at 3:14 minutes into the video she is blasted by goose bumps and then at 3:38 she and the guitarist become almost as they are one being. Amber, I have to say YOU REALLY GET IT!!!! and its a thrill to see how much you love good music. I would strongly suggest that you learn how to play guitar yourself. There are strong messages inside you just screaming to get heard. God Bless Frank

Raised Seventh Day Adventist. Hearing this song a few years after it was released back in the mid 90's, I was in junior high and questioning everything. This wrenched me in ways I didn't understand back then and still marvel at to this day. Amber has it, spot on and dead to rights. SR expresses am ambivalence toward faith that is eminently and heart-breakingly relevant.

Quicksand Jesus is one of the best songs Skid Row ever put out. I remember listening to Slave to the Grind for the first time, and this song was incredible. Slave to the Grind by Skid Row or Monkey Business, Piece of Me etc, please...oh yeah so you know for some weird reason, all metalheads love Belinda Carlisle....Summer Rain, I get Weak, Half The World, Big Scary Anima, In too Deep, Circle in the Sand, Runaway Horses, All God's Children, Circle In the Sand, Do You Feel Like I feel....lets go
@CodyDuncan224010 ай бұрын
That is so true. Belinda Carlisle has street cred that other 80s female artists did not have. She was in the Germs in the 70s and brought the Go-Gos to prominence with her stage presence and unique voice to the top of the charts in the early 80s to mid-80s. Her solo career was fire in the States but even bigger (much bigger) internationally. Belinda liked real instruments in most of her music and appreciated good songwriting- she insisted on it for her records- not a trait of every pop star. It didn't hurt that Belinda was the most beautiful woman on earth from 1986- 1996. Belinda and the Go-Gos need more love from this channel- Belinda Solo's stuff is top pop material, doesn't get better. However, we can't forget the Go-Go-s catalog. Unforgiven, apology Cool Jerk, Has the whole world lost its head, and yes or no among others by the Go-Go's need to be done.

Slave to the Grind was the first metal album to debut at number 1... with some help from the new sound scan tracking. It was so heavy opening the door for "hair/sleeze" rock to become the next generation of. Bands like Pantera.. Pantera opened for Skids on the Slave tour and it was an amazing show. But to truly hear the heavy Skid Row ya gotta do "Slave to the Grind" song stands up to this day and puts even thrash in its place. One of the hardest songs that still represents the genre.

I love this song. I got a suggestion for you in the Glam Metal category. It's from the second wave of LA Bands that got signed near the end of the 80's...they were dominated by Guns N Roses, but one other band that I really enjoyed from that time was Faster Pussycat...their big hit was House Of Pain off their second album "Wake Me When It's Over", but I think a good song to start with is off their FIRST Album which was self-titled. Bathroom Wall is the song. As a drummer I love it. The lead singer was co-owner of the club The Cathouse in Hollywood with Ricky Rachtman. Rachtman was the long time host of Headbangers Ball on MTV and was in the Guns N Roses video "November Rain" as one of the wedding guests.

This is my favourite Skid Row song. Just like Guns N Roses they do heavy rock and softer ballads very well. This is what you call a power Ballard. It is not a soft Ballard but still a Ballard. Skid Row have some very emotional songs. Monkey Business, Slave to the Grind and The Threat are songs that Rock hard. If you are going to listen to Hard Rock albums in full then my suggestions for Top 10 albums would be in this order are 1. Appetite for Destruction (GNR) 2. Metallica (Black Album) 3. Countdown to Extinction (Megadeth) 4. Avenged Sevenfold (Self titled) 5. Slave to the Grind (Skid Row) 6. Badmotorfiner (Soundgarden). 7. Toxicity (SOAD) 8. Ten Thousand Fists (Disturbed) 9. Highway to Hell (AC/DC) 10. Hysteria (Def Leppard). Toxicity by System of a Down is one of the best and craziest Hard Rock/Alt Metal albums of all time. You defs need to do more SOAD, Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold too.

Fantastic song! Sabastian Bach's voice is one of the most underrated in rock. He can belt out some notes. His range is incredible! Rachel Bolan and Snake Sabo wrote some incredible lyrics for this song. The angst of it tells about despair and longing in a world that is so challenging and looking towards a higher power for answers but not always getting them. Man's ability to cope which we can all relate to and appreciate .

You just spent 9 minutes not only listening to the best voice of the 80s metal genre, but looking at the album cover of the BEST sophomore album ever in my opinion. Even though you did finally listen to "Youth Gone Wild", a little harder than I think every other Skid Row song you've done so far, it is time to delve into the HARD heavy songs on this masterpiece. The heaviest, that I think Jay would love and even Amber (think hard hitting drums like Metallica who she has come to love) is the title song, "Slave to the Grind", then "Monkey Business". Sebastian can slay the ballad, but wait til you hear the head banging hard stuff.
