Yes, it is! I'm not a big fan at all of '70s rock, but I loved this album almost immediately. It's so melodic, relaxing and memorable. It made me want to explore the rest of Supertramp's discography.

When I was in my teens and early 20's I had a serious drug problem. This song came out in 1979. It took a few years for the meaning of this song to get through, but it eventually did. I got clean in 1984 and celebrated 40 years on November 3rd earlier this month. Supertramp got through to the child of vision inside of me. Found myself a "new ambition". I've been an addictions counselor for 35 years.

Brits viewing America is what this album is all about. It's like a travelogue or documentary. It's like a movie for the ears. This song is largely about the American dream gone wrong but Supertramp respect the USA and the songs are respectful comment on what they see in their travels. Late night listening to this track gives it an extra dimension. A superb album and probably my personal fave of all time.

Roger Hodgson wrote, sang, and arranged most of the enduring rock that made Supertramp a worldwide phenomenon. Roger Hodgson still tours, and there is a live recording version of this song which is a must see. Although much older now, he truly is an amazing artist that has never lost that incredible voice.

@robyourtime He took some time off to be with family, but apparently, he is touring again in 2025. He is still writing, so it makes me wonder if there will be an album. I'm 67 now, and they were huge in my circle of friends. My father in law surprised me on my birthday and took me to see the Breakfast In America tour in Toronto, which was beyond amazing.

YES! That song stands out so much - not only on that album, which is one of their poppiest, but on their whole catalogue. What no one ever does is reacting to their roots - Try Again, Maybe I‘m A Beggar, Rosie Has Everything Planned, Coming Home to See You. Clear, Crime of the Century is not only their masterpiece but one of the best albums ever produced and it was a slightly different band, but go and take a listen to their first two, very neglected, albums!

The description Amber's looking for about being captivated by the song is what I call being "in the pocket". The rhythmic pulse of this baseline is hypnotic, the piano phrasing is jazz-inspired. The whole thing sucks you in and captivates. I'm big on the poetry and messages, too. This is more about getting someone to stop listening to the propaganda and think for themselves. " You drink the Coka Cola because you said it tasted good, you watch the television because it tells you that you should ". Powerful stuff right there. Oh, and nothing was digital in 1979!!! You played it perfectly or you didn't...no electronic fixes yet!

Nobody ever reacts to Supertramp's "Another Man's Woman", but it's a banger. It starts off as a B+ Supertamp song, but after the second verse, the piano solo takes over and then it turns into this monster groove at the end. Highly recommended! And don't let anyone talk you into listening to the live version first. Sure, catch that later, but your first encounter should be the studio cut off of the Crisis What Crisis album.

Thanks for your great reactions to this Supertramp song, one of my all-time favorites. (Like the new look, Amber.) The song by Roger Hodgson is questioning the mindset that many have. They drink something, not because it's healthy, but because it tastes good. They watch the television "'cause it tells you that you should." Then he says ... There must be more than this life It's time we did something right I said Child of vision Won't you listen? Find yourself a new ambition Instead of blindly following the crowd, Hodgson is calling on us to find a new path, a new ambition.

There was no escaping this album when it first came out back in 1979. Child of Vision was essentially the bookend to the album opener Gone Hollywood, with both lead singers trading positions in POVs about fame and success. I absolutely love the opening of this track, and appreciate the lyrics more and more with each hearing. Thanks again for a great reaction, guys!

You 2 should be honorary Montrealers. As someone who grew up there in the 70's I can tell you that the most popular groups in Quebec were Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, and ELP. How popular? Both Pink Floyd and ELP played The Olympic Stadium to 65,000 fans each, and Supertramp played 2 nights at Jarry Park to a total of 70,000 fans. (I was at both the ELP and Supertramp shows).

As a child of the '60s and '70s, you must remember how we listened to music then. It was a thread that connected all of us. A lot of the listening was, quite frankly, when you were drunk or high in many respects. Headphones plugged into the stereo or blasted through massive speakers if it was a party. The amount of time needed to make a mix tape with coping from one piece of audio equipment to another or live capture from a Radio Station was off the charts. Thinking about it now, the amount of time we spent on speakers for the car or for the house was insane. How about discussing Jensen 6x9 speakers for the car or moving from 8 track to Cassette? Keep in mind that this all happened before computers.

With this one you always have the sensation that final solos could have gone on for ten more minutes and you wouldn't be bored, huh? For me it's in the Top 3 of best Supertramp tracks on any album (the other two being "Fool's Overture" and "School"). But this is the one I listen to the most, next to other Rick Davies treasures such as "From Now On", "For Ever" and "Bloody Well Right".

Far away from home, late at night, candlelight, right frame of mind, straining to lock in the faint FM signal from a college station 100 miles away. The 1st notes opening Child of Vision cast a spell of chillbumps that became more meaningful listening to the wake-up optimism in the message. Amber is usually so insightful examining lyrics. This seems obvious from the start. Listen again. If you’re truly bored, one could look back at how many times I’ve recommended this song, particularly with other Supertramp reactions. The album is a true masterpiece of Rock&Roll history, and Child of Vision is a pièce de résistance to the whole affair. I repeat often; The evolution and transformation the both of you have graduated from naïveté into aficionados of the bands, their members, their stories, but mostly the music. Well done.
