Thank you for playing this beautiful song that has such an important place in my life. Four years ago my beautiful wife of twenty years lost her life to cancer. I had to return to our house briefly, but on the way back to the hospital this was the song that was on the radio, and it nearly floored me. In those final hours I told her, "Let's put all the cares behind us and go where they'll never find us, and "Just take my hand and run away." I really want to believe she heard me before the night came for her. RIP Mila, there's not a day that goes by when I don't think about you.

Joe Cocker's live performances were a force of nature! His band really was that tight. I saw him at an outdoor venue the year before he passed; a casino in Iowa. Covered in sweat, he belted out ALL of his hits with incredible power and energy. One of the best concerts that I've ever been to.

The unique and phenomenally talented Joe Cocker was a true master of his craft, his voice made of gravel, "man-next-door" looks, a stage presence few will ever reach, a powerhouse band behind him, and that musical brain he had all combined, made sure he's one of those artists who will stay relevant for ... well i'd say for ever. The man literally had no bad songs, and even was able to improve on the Beatles (during their height of fame i might add), he embodied the songs he sang, the words could never be more true, as when they were, when he sang them. Somehow Joe does often get overlooked when lists get made of "greatest this/that of all time", but the moment people remind others of Joe, most instantly go along with the "overlooked omg yes, ofc.. him!" reminder because... it's Joe Cocker, one of the greatest artists we've ever had.

OK, you all HAVE to react to any of the videos from the Mad Dogs and Englishman Tour. Leon Russell (from Oklahoma) is the music director with a hand picked band and a full on Hippie Choir backing. It was and is still considered one of the best live rock tours ever. Songs I'd recommend from that Tour are "Space Captain," "The Letter," "Feeling Alright," and "Delta Lady." Joe Cocker is in the zone!

Joe Cocker is from Sheffield, England, which was a rough, filthy, steel making town during his childhood. The very air was hazardous all the time and the buildings were covered in black soot. He got that grit in his voice the hard way, but OMG did it pay off for all of us. RIP you old Tyke. ✌️

Actually, this song is NOT a cover. Yes, the song was written by Bryan Adams with Jim Vallance and Diane Warren, but Joe was the first person to record it - appearing on his 1989 album One Night of Sin. Per Jim’s own explanation on his website: Jim and Bryan wrote the verses and Bryan wrote the chorus with Diane a few days later. Jim and Bryan recorded a basic demo which they sent to Joe and his producer, and they recorded the track for their album.
