One of Joe C's best, covering a Ray Charles classic! Next, I hope you do "The Letter". He also did a marvelous duet with Jennifer Warnes called "Up Where We Belong", which was from "An Officer And a Gentleman", a terrific movie that I'm sure you'll watch someday. It stars Richard Gere and Debra Winger. Louis Gossett Jr. won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for it.

Joe Cocker, the most prolific cover man! 147 covers and 37 originals. The man is phenomenal! He takes an old song and gives it New birth. Most of the songs that he covers, I prefer his versions. This is one of those beautifully rich covers!

No one covers a song like Joe Cocker. His raw wounded voice comes from the belly of the beast. It is the wounded soul that makes real. Try coming away from his songs like FEELING ALRIGHT without being lifted by the sermon on his voice. Or the ragged dread he brings to Beatles song COME TOGETHER. I love the sound of Joe Cocker because you will never hear it today. Because of the often sterile, perfect nature of music today, he would never be given a chance with today's audience. But we were lucky enough to appreciate the genuine quality and soul he lived and breathed into his music. And that is why he is missed.

In 1972 my dad was a part time Limousine driver here in Sydney and on odd ocassions would ferry some well known celebrities around town, to night clubs , people's houses etc. One of those was Joe Cocker , while he was here in Sydney and Melbourne performing concerts during that year. Apart from tipping my Dad $100 one night after taking him to a night club which was a lot of money back them for a Limo Driver , my dad always said he was one of the nicest blokes he'd ever met. A true gentlemen, down to earth and a good soul. Sadly missed by all who knew him.

Joe Cocker would cover a song and make it his own, in 1968 the Beatles heard Joe's version of "With A Little Help From My Friends" and loved it, they were actually in the studio when he recorded it and John Lennon played guitar on the song. When he performed at Woodstock his career shot up. In 1974 he recorded "You Are So Beautiful" and it became his signature song, in 1983 he performed "up Where We Belong" with Jennifer Warnes for a movie called An Officer And A Gentleman, it was his best selling song and hit #1and he won a Grammy Award. I couldn't believe he was #97 on the Rolling Stones top 100 greatest voices of all time WHAT! It's was so sad when he passed away December 22, 2014 from lung cancer.
