Always down for some Toto!! Fun fact - Cheryl "Got To Be Real" Lynn does the female vocals on this song! Some of Toto's other bangers include "99", "Pamela", "Animal" (the HORNS!!), "Stranger in Town", and "Stop Loving You". Gotta love David Paich's keyboards here!! Cheryl Lynn sings backup on this. “Georgie Porgie” is a very popular traditional English nursery rhyme, dating back to the 19th century. The song was first published with different lyrics, in James Orchard Halliwell’s collection in 1840. The author George Bernard Shaw (born 1856) refers to the lyrics of Georgie Porgie from his childhood, so this version must be at least that old. Although there are no evidences about this, the lyrics of “Georgie Porgie” are a reference to the 1st Duke of Buckingham, the courtier George Villiers (1592-1628). Th

Several members of Toto (the guitar player, drummer, piano player) were Boz Scaggs backup band prior to Toto. You may have reacted to him This is where the R&B vibe comes from. In fact, Steve Lukethar (on vocals here) sounds so much like Boz on this cut. The female vocal is Cheryl Lynn who had a disco hit in the late 70s (Got to be Real) you'd recognize it if you heard it. Probably was in a few movies or commmercials. You wanna know the talent level here? Steve Lukethar was THE guitar player on so many records in the 80s If you hear any killer guitar solos on an 80s hit most likely it was Steve Think, Running with the Night (Lionel Richie) Beat it (Michael Jackson, all guitars and co-writing credit except for the Eddie Van Halen solo) In fact, he was very instrumental in the making of the entire Thriller album So many more The rest of the members have just as impressive a resume. Jeff Porcaro (rhe drummer, RIP, is a legend) lots of work with Steely Dan to name a few David Paich (the piano player and leader) was a known songwriter, producer and musical director for several famous artists. George Benson, Rod Stewart etc.. He also worked on the Thriller album Toto. Goofy name, but killer musicians & songwriters! Dig deep. Keyboard player, David Paich wrote the song with his father Marty helping compose some of the music (as he often did). Those background vocals are performed by Cheryl Lynn who was a Broadway performer and a common background singer for the time. She was a touring singer with several bands also. Including for Diana Ross where she would handle the parts sung by the Supremes when she did those songs from Diana's early years. In her memoirs she says she tried out for the first season "American Idol" where the preliminary judges (tho ones you don't see) told her she was too old. Since then the show has changed their age limits.

Yes, as noted, that's Cheryl Lynn on backing vocals. Fun fact: one of the writers for Lynn's big hit ("Got to be Real") was David Paich, the keyboardist for Toto, who also wrote this song. (It's guitarist Steve Lukather singing here, as he did on "Rosanna". Paich sings "Africa".) Paich was the primary songwriter for the band. And you may recall that he (and various other members) had played with Boz Scaggs before forming Toto; Paich also co-wrote "Lido Shuffle" and "Lowdown", both of which you've covered. That said, Jordan's praise for "Hold the Line" has me jonesing for more Bobby Kimball vocals, too. Enough of this mellow stuff, let's rock! So, may I suggest "I'll Supply the Love" or "Goodbye, Elenore"? Not that Lukather and Paich aren't fine singers, but gimme some Bobby! JMO.

I never knew this was Toto's song -smooth. I would say I love Toto, but only know 3 songs. Jeff Porcaro is one of my favorite drummers - so solid. He played with everybody; too many artists to list here.

Toto is perfection, in everything they do. That's why they are my favorite band of all time. The critics didn't like them, for that reason alone. And they have been putting songs out there for over 40 years and been involved in and backed other band's music thousands of times; they are so talented & have so much more to offer.. Instead of how many band's' music have they been involved with, you should ask: who Haven't they been involved with? Cheryl Lynn - "Got to be Real" is the woman singing. Plz. react to "Burn" with Joseph Williams singing lead vocal: you haven't gotten to hear him sing yet!

"Georgie Porgie" is based on a nursery rhyme and David Paich (piano man wrote the song). Steve Porcaro (keyboardist) wrote "Human Nature".

Cheryl Lynn sings backup on this. You reacted to her song 'Got to Real' on Soul Train.

This was played on Black r&b radio stations back in the 80s. It wasn't until the 90's that I realized it was Toto. It was a Cheryl Lynn song to me. lol

This is baby makin' music. Tell us when he or she is due. My favorite Toto piece. They were the band behind so many hits besides their own. Thank you for choosing this one. Gotta try listening to Todd Rundgren. I suggest Healer from the Healer album. Or any song with his other group Utopia from the Another Live album. You won't be disappointed. Keep going. Love your listenings.

Oh yeah, one of my old faves I STILL listen to in a regular basis. This one brings back memories!!!! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I have. I do believe that it’s our own Cheryl “got to be real” Lynn singing the chorus.

Funky bluesy jazzy gr8t tune from Toto. And Cheryl adds so much to this song with her soulful, bluesy vocal.

Always love this song, I knew if you heard this one that you'd love it, glad you guys enjoyed it.😎🎸👌 Georgy Porgy pudding pie was an English nursery rhyme, the Prince Regent, later George IV, as he was on the tubby side, it was made to ridicule George IV. The full rhyme is, Georgy Porgy pudding pie, kissed the girls and made them cry, when the girls came out to play, Georgy Porgy ran away.

First vinyl record I ever bought as a kid. Today I love this album, but when I was a kid, I bought it on the basis of Hold The Line and was expecting a rock album. I was pretty disappointed with the multi-genre sound of the album with all different styles...A couple of years later, when I grew up a little and really learned to love music, I fell in love with this album. And Toto. Great band, amazing musicians.
