The female vocalist is Cheryl Lynn. She sang the hit disco record "Got To Be Real".

Singer Cheryl Lynn "To Be Real (her big hit)" did back up vocals. The pianist was given a nursery rhymes book and it opened up to the George Porgy" nursery rhyme (thus the song's inspiration). -San Francisco fan girl (new subbie)

Thank you so much for reviewing this song -- I am 56 years old, so I HAD THE ALBUM when it came out! Yes, it is Cheryl Lynn singing the "chorus," all by her sweet fabulous self. I wish they had included her in the video, her voice and lines are a naughty take on a nursery rhyme that just add a little more sexy, blue-eyed soul to an already cool song. It is awesome that you notice the great beat/melody, and that voice in the background -- kind of R & B, Jazz, Pop style. LOVE IT! I appreciate how you listen with an open mind. Thank you again Jayy!

This was Toto's very first hit, from 1978. Cheryl Lynn was the female vocals your hearing. But for whatever reason, she wasn't mentioned in the credits. I know others mention her song "Got To Be Real". But she had another r&b hit called "Encore" from late 1983, that was fabulous. If you want to take a listen, the extended live version is better...

That disco vibe you’re hearing is because this group was the group backing up Boz Scaggs album Silk Degrees. The same guy (Paich) wrote the classic song Lowdown on that album. Big similarities between Georgie Porgie and Lowdown.
