Can you imagine growing up in a time where you turn on the radio and you basically hear. great songs all the Time with bands like Styx, Queen, scorpions and Boston and the list goes on and on. I’m old enough to have been able to listen to all of them and it was a really great time with really great music!

If you see this comment... Listen to the album version because there is a big piece missing from this video... an amazing synthesizer/keyboard work that musically emulates the sounds of when, according to the story, he "climbed aboard the starship and headed for the skys". They played the entire song with the synthesizer solo when I saw them live in Chicago and it was amazing. Styx is definitely one of my best concert memories.

This song hits me hard everytime. My best friend died in a car crash at 27 years old. That transition doesn't make it any less emotional with those lyrics. That transition is the most emotional part. Reflections in the waves spark my memory. Some happy, some sad. I think of childhood friends, and the dreams we had. We lived happily forever, or so the story goes, but somehow we missed out on the pot of gold. But we'll try best that we can to carry on. A gathering of angels appeared above my head. They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said, they said "Come sail away" I really have a hard time keeping it together through this song. It really hits hard. It's a beautiful song.

Amber is clearly an old soul. She's been here many times before. She picks up on things (by her facial reaction) that defies her time and place. Role reversal: Jay is of the earth, but she is of the universe...

I'll say this, Amber is more timeless with her appreciations. Don't really truck with all that galactic stuff (sounds a bit hippie for this old punk rocker... all love still) but I think, materially, you're right. That said, Jay is wonderfully captivated by some things she isn't. Good pairing!

Try "Lady" - if Amber doesn't cry I will be surprised. The live one is okay, but please do the original studio, or 1995 re-recorded version. It is the most beautiful rock love song ever written and recorded. Lilting piano introduction that blows Come Sail Away "away" and then drops into the most harmonic thunderous chord riffs you can imagine. It just effin SOARS. Styx had a unique ability to make power chords angelic and doing it as part of a transition that made your jaw drop. No one else comes close.

@@rhondamcbath6279 I guess a group that gets you through most of the traumatic moments of adolescence can inspire a certain amount of passion - LOL. Here is a tip. Styx became REALLY big after the album Equinox came out. Equinox is just sublime. In addition to Lady, it has songs reflecting my comments and is the pinnacle of Styx's melodic creativity and achievement, IMHO. You might like; Lorelei, Mother Dear, Lonely Child, and and Suite Madame Blue (an absolute Opus). Headphones, headphones headphones, and do Suite Madame Blue last, lying on a bed, in the dark - LOL. A lot of songs from back in the day had complex switch-ups and tempo changes, alternating lead singers, and other poetic and artistic touches. We didn't care if you could dance all the way through it because we danced like nobody was watching 🙂. The music was great (most of it, anyway) because the musicians cared about the stories and the songs. There's a lot of poetry in all those songs.

You both just stared at the video wide eyed, could tell how the song was grabbing you from the start. So many music reaction channels on KZbin today, that I was almost over them until I found yours. You guys are not only adorable, but your reactions are genuine and enthusiastic. That was a shorter 'radio' version. In the middle was a long instrumental. What is nice about Styx, is that there are three members that sing lead. This is one of my all time faves. I grew up in Chicago where they’re from. It’s CRIMINAL that bands like Rush and Styx were withheld from the RRHOF. Rush was finally vindicated; now it’s Styx’s turn. BTW, this is the radio edit… the album cut is quite a bit longer. Lastly, they’re named from the river Styx, in Greek mythology.

Then very slowly he rose up out of the stage playing the grand until by the end of the first section he was about 6 ft above the stage level playing and singing. Indeed, the angels were ETs. Styx was "Ancient Aliens" before "Ancient Aliens." You gotta hear the full version with the trippy bridge. It teases the Big Reveal and makes for a more dramatic buildup. "Styx" is the river from Greek Mythology that separates the newly dead from the afterlife. To cross the river you must ride the ferry piloted by Charon and pay him two coins. In ancient Greece bodies were buried with two coins holding the eyelids closed. If you were buried without the coins you were trapped on the wrong side of the river and would eventually go mad and jump in, but the river kept all the souls who entered its waters.

I was around when they started, I grew up about 50 miles south of them. They actually played at my high school shortly after recording their very first album, and "Lady" was their first hit. Shaw may be a good guitar player, and yes, he wrote and sang some of their songs, but the sound that sent them to the top of the charts was Dennis DeYoung, plain and simple. And for you fans of Dennis, he is still singing and recording (although with the feud going on between Shaw and DeYoung, it's not likely they will ever get back together as a group). Matter of fact, look up one of Dennis' newest, "Isle of Misanthrope" here on You Tube. ;) (if you do listen, listen carefully to the very last line of the song, and watch the images on the screen, it references this exact song, Come Sail Away. ;) )

The whole fantastic synthesizer solo, which is absolutely necessary and really raises the song to a high level, is missing from this version. BUMMER!

Was about to say this. The way it builds and then just explodes when everything comes back in is a big part of the song.

Styx is an iconic band with a HUGE catalog! Dennis DeYoung (lead singer) has such a distinct voice! Classically trained! All of them are amazing musicians.

Styx has put out so many memorable songs over the years, but this one, in my opinion was their very best. A truly classic song is one that you feel, not just hear....Come Sail Away paints a picture in your mind as you listen to it, and that is the beauty of music.

I'm a new subscriber and I love your reactions to the music I grew up with..it feels like I'm hearing this wonderful music for the first time all over again.. Although it's too bad you didn't react to the longer version of this song..you would of loved it . I'm so happy I found your channel, I love it. It's so great to see the younger generation appreciate all this wonderful music of the past.👍

This is great !! I discovered you 're channel just last month, I loved Rob's reaction to the guitar in " She's Gone " !!! " OOooh , yea , c-mon "!!! The man who is singing this song is Dennis DeYoung , by the way !! It's just too bad that his days as the lead singer of Styx are now just a distant memory !!!
