Maybe the Sens were really just a flash in the pan? as in they overachieved or were collectively "in the zone".. Look, it happens on occasion. Some teams just do better than anticipated, they have that good season but then they come back down to earth.. Keep in mind there are a lot of factors that really determine how successful a team can be and all those factors really have to align to make it happen.. I mean some teams look fantastic on paper, but in practice they may not have chemistry, not to mention teams need to stay healthy and of course cohesion needs to be there to have a strong team and if any of these factors are disrupted it can really hurt a team and if a team is hurt long enough it can really cause an implosion.. Not only that but then the GM starts making bad moves and it can turn into a tire fire really quickly, and the next thing you know you have a top 5 pick at the draft and somehow manage to mess that up by previously trading it...

Means nothing if they can't translate that to the playoffs. McDavid helps the Oilers a lot, but he is also the teams weakness. If the other team shuts him down, there isn''t enough skill and grind on the roster to outscore the opposition regularly. Edmonton's lack of defence becomes exposed when you lose half your offensive touch. Going to have trouble finding enough wins in the playoffs when the play becomes so much tighter.

@Wexter00833 жыл бұрын
He did the same thing with Ottawa. Ignoring how due to the Karlsson and Hoffman drama being the driving force behind the team's collapse and how the teardown was the best decision they could have made as outside of Stone NONE of the "stars" have been the same since leaving Ottawa (ignoring Zbad, but even then that trade turned into Gustavsson and JBD so young future starting goalie, and a potential Top 6 D for Brassard which they got from the Zbad trade... that's a good trade). That and the "last three years" thing is annoying as you're comparing players in their prime to young kids who I REMIND you have played in two shortened seasons. Also, where did he get those stats as he showed inaccurate stats... are they pro-rated? And he did Connor Brown dirty. I also hate how he only basically says Tkachuck and Stutzle are there only stars as Norris, Chabot, Drake Batherson, what about their young promising prospects like Pinto, JBD, Sanderson, Brannstrom... it's just a very shallow analysis. Rob is one of the better hockey pundits, but he REALLY is bad for showing his work and really does not give all the information that contradicts his story.
@aralornwolf31403 жыл бұрын
@@Wexter0083 , I would also say Pageau is still valued for his penalty kill skills. However, I can understand why Ottawa traded him. He was traded because he and Ottawa couldn't agree on an extension, which was why he was traded at the deadline for picks. Question comes down to "is he really worth the 5 million cap hit that he wanted?" The 2019-2020 was his career year (if it wasn't cut short), and was his second best year of his career by a single point. This last season he went 14-14-28 in 54 games, which is still pretty good (for a second line center, right?). Then there was Bobby Ryan's drinking which helped his downward trend, and the downward trend of his line mates. *Shrugs* On the other hand, was he even a Star? *Thinks*
@Wexter00833 жыл бұрын
@@aralornwolf3140 Pageau and Stone are the only two players that I wish Ottawa could have kept... but I understand why they didn't. Stone didn't want to stay for a rebuild (which sucks considering Duchene did, but you can't compare the two) and Pageau wanted 5mill which Ottawa did not see as healthy longterm deal considering we had Norris, Pinto and White already making up our Top 9 in the next two seasons. At least we got a first round pick for Pageau which turned into Ridly Greig who very much so is a Pageau like player. He is responsible at both ends of the ice and has good offensive instincts. ONLY differences is Greig is a major pest while Pageau wasn't so we'll see how the two compare in a couple seasons. Overall I like Rob, but he really botched his analysis of Ottawa's situation. I also REALLY like the team Ottawa has put together and I can see something really special in this squad. That is more than I can say for rebuilds like Edmonton and Buffalo's where they did not seem to have any real plan outside of Draft in the Top 5 and hope they can turn it around. Ottawa has a real identity playing under DJ Smith. Play hard, get into the dirty areas and score however possible. It doesn't need to be pretty, but once you have that lead make the opponent regret that they underestimated you. And considering despite their awful start they were never shutout last seasons I have a lot of trust in DJ as our coach moving forward... thank you Toronto?

Pinning Oiler's misfortunes to a 15 year old trade is a bit harsh... It certainly doesn't help, but with all the high picks they've gotten in the years(and the quality of those players) really should've given them a far better roster to build around... Its kinda like how in Vancouver, what we need is someone with a better cap management head on their shoulders to take the cap decisions out of Benning's hands. That and probably buffer some of the Aquilini's kneejerk moves in favor of a longer term objectives(or generally a long term vision for the team instead of caving to bandwagoner pressure).

It's kinda weird, both Boqvist and Jones are playing better with their new teams. Mainly the former compared to the latter, Jones has had a few turnovers that turned into goals for the opposing team but he's still been an important role on the Hawks offense with all his assists. Last year it seemed like no one would pass the puck to prime positions like he's doing this year so I'm digging him for the time being.

My Devils were a solid team went into the final round of Stanley cup, but lost to the kings in round 6. Then during the off season Zach Parise (the captain) left for the Wilds. The lockout came. And after the lockout Kovalchuk decides to retire nhl and play in russia instead. So the upcoming season after lockout Devils had lost two 30+ goal scorer and top 10 (in the entire nhl) point producers. Naturally losing two core offensive pieces that was impossible to replace sent NJD down to be a mediocre at best team. Which we havent recovered from yet.
