Victor Hedman in Tampa. Dude looked like a bust his first few years in the league before turning it around in 2014 and becoming arguably the best defenseman in the league.

I'd say Rūdolfs Balcers. He was drafted by the Sharks in 2015, played one season in AHL then he was shipped to Ottawa in the Karlsson deal. In Ottawa he made his debut and played around 30 games with them and lit up the AHL. At the start of the season he was claimed off waivers by the Sharks and now he is a top 6 guy and he will only get better.

Mario Lemieux is a player who redeemed his self. He started his career as a Superstar. Won 2 Stanley Cups with Jagr and There is someone that took a picture that had Lemieux and Jagr next to each other holding a Stanley Cup (Lemieux 1991, Jagr 1992). Were not done yet, Lemieux was out for 3 years because of having lymphoma and came back emotionally, Lemieux's 1st game back was against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Penguins won that game 5-0 and Lemieux scoring 1 goal, 3 points, and even better things happened. Mario Lemieux played 1 last season in the NHL with Sidney Crosby (IN THE 2005-06 SEASON).

If Seattle selected Tyler Johnson from the lightning, I wouldn’t be surprised if he turns into his 2015 form again. He was absolutely disgusting in the lighting’s cup run that year but slowly regressed year after year because it seemed like his line role was always shifting around. So if Seattle picks him up I think he may be able to get back to, or at least close to, that prime form.

yzerman. people forget that is took him fourteen seasons to win his first cup. for years he had the reputation of not winning the big one, especially in the mid 90s. despite having a great team around him, they were upset by the eight seeded sharks in 94, swept by the unsung devils in 95, and then beaten by the avalanche in 96. he was like ovi in having this reputation as a choker in the league before finally winning those cups. I also wanted to add in the 89 flames as well. I think this is a pretty forgotten team. people don't understand how good this team was. in the four seasons before their cup win, they averaged more than 40 wins a season and 90 points a season. the year before they won the president's trophy with 48 wins and the year they won the cup they won it again with 54 wins. they were a great team that had the misfortune of being in the same division as the oilers, who they have only beaten once in their history, in the famous steve smith game 7. the team has a whole number of feel good moments about it, for not only did they finally win the cup against the team that had beaten them three years prior, but lanny mcdonald finally won his first cup after his long career. that team had five hall of famers in mcdonald, al macinnis, joe nieuwendyk, joe mullen, and doug gilmour. they also had great players like theo fleury, mike vernon, joel otto, and gary roberts.

The 2018 Capitals deserve an honorable mention. The 2016-17 season is probably one of the worst seasons for the Capitals in recent memory. For context, pundits believed this was our last true shot at the Cup, and we paid a premium to acquire Kevin Shattenkirk precisely for one last push to the Finals. Not only did the Capitals get bounced in the second round again, but to add insult to injury, the team that bounced us (the Penguins) went on to win the Cup that year, making it 3-0 to the Crosby/Ovechkin Cup tally. Losing Nate Schmidt (a core contributor to the Capitals blueliner corps) in the Expansion Draft only reinforces the belief that the Capitals blew it, since many of the team's core was going to be UFAs soon, including Ovechkin. Even then, the road to the Cup was not all smooth sailing either. We had to face the Jackets (whose coach at that time, John Tortorella had beaten the Capitals while he was with the Rangers), the Penguins again, the Lightning in the Conference Finals (with familiar faces from the Rangers that knocked past Capitals teams out of the playoffs), and then the Vegas Golden Knights with a lot of familiar faces from the past (Marc-Andre Fleury, James Neal, Deryk Engelland, all former Penguins). Say what you want about the Capitals, but I will be adamant to disprove that our Cup win was a fluke, and our supposed "road to the Cup" was easy compared to everyone else. Plus, every team lost a player in the Expansion Draft, so I won't acknowledge that excuse as a reason why we won the Cup.
