Hurricanes lost 3 star players, Lindholm, Hanifin and Skinner in two trades, and managed to make the playoffs and make it the Conference Finals while Skinner went on a Sabres team that finished near the bottom of the standings and the Flames would lose in 5 to the Avs in the first round

Although they were aging, TBL losing players like Lecavalier and St.Louis in 2013 and 14 helped build them into the dominant team we see today. Marty St.Louis had an Art Ross winning season in 2013 and was leading the team in points when he was traded for Ryan Callahan. Marty actually ended up leading the team in points anyway despite being traded away at the deadline.

Seriously for subban we have to understand that when price was injured, neither Weber or Pk was able to help the team make the playoffs. When they finish bottom at the bottom with subban, price was injured. Then again maybe the locker room atmosphere got better but 2010 and 2014, when the habs made the eastern finals, pk and price were the core of the team. Weber in his career never reached further the 2nd round. Thus not so sure about that one. However I will admit subban needs to bounce back this year in order to remain an elite dman

Which is worse: Karl Alzner leaving the Caps for the Habs due to the Caps playoff fails, and the Caps win the cup the next season while Alzner is stuck on a rough team? -or Marian Hossa leaving the Pens, who lost the Cup Finals to the Wings, for the Cup Champ Red Wings in hope of performing a repeat with them, only to lose in the Finals to the exact team he left, the Pens?

to be fair, they had barzal who is definitely a superstar. you could also make the argument that the islanders may be a shocking playoff team who is incapable of actually making a cup run (similiar to minnesota in the last decade) whereas toronto underacheives because of bad goaltending but still has the potential to make a playoff run

Canucks lost Pavel Bure in a trade to the Florida Panthers. Loss of the most exciting player to ever wear a Canucks jersey eventually led Vancouver's management to sign a free agent in the hopes of restoring some star-power to the franchise. That player was Mark Messier. Dark times ensued...Dark times.
