Brassard had 11 points in 19 games during that playoff run. Not bad. Yet Zibanejad had 9 points in 12 games for the Rangers in those same playoffs. Had Zibanejad still been with the Sens he would have had a great playoff run and considering the Sens lost by a game 7 OT goal, maybe if Zibanejad was in the lineup instead of Brassard, the Sens may have gotten past Pittsburgh and won the Stanley Cup.

@Sourmilk69
@Sourmilk69 Жыл бұрын
@@bkeithdavidson1057 it was more a matter of the team not actually being that good, and the one trick pony coach wearing out his welcome. Karlsson’s the only reason the sens made it that far that year, the d-core featured Cody ceci and a washed up phaneuf. On forward you had no number 1 centre, a mark stone that didn’t show up, an alcoholic bobby ryan leading the charge, and a one dimensional mike Hoffman. Pageau was a great third liner, Dzingle isn’t a good player, the fourth line got exposed as those trades Dorian made weren’t very good (burrows, stalberg etc). Anderson was hot and cold. Third pairing was garbage and if I remember correctly you had the ghost of methot and then Freddy Claesson playing with karlsson. What karlsson did with that mediocre roster was nothing short of miraculous. I was pissed that they didn’t pick up a defence-man at the deadline

They won that Karlsson trade by a long shot. Stutzle is an amazing and very promising center for years to come. BTW, I'm a die hard Caps fan but after getting drafted by them on NHL 22, and being there my whole 5 years(and many more to come!!!), I'm beginning to grow some love for this team.

Yeah, but at the time it happened most people didn't see it that way. It is further proof that one cannot properly judge a trade of that sort (one that involves a lot of prospects and/or draft picks) until years later.

The Zbad trade happened prior to the run and my theory is that he wouldn't have broken out like he did without Panarin. Brassard was a key figure in getting the Sens to Conf Finals as well with 4 goals and 7 assists. Also the return (tree) for Bassard landed Jacob Bernard-Docker, Cam Talbot & Mads Sogaard. The entire dumpster fire comes down to one factor: Karlsson should never have been made captain. It should have been Phillips followed by Stone. Once Phillips and Neal retired, the true leadership of the core was gone, and the room shattered. Melynk, at the time of the tear down, said players like Karlsson, Stone, & Duchene were too old for multi-year deals and he was right. Besides Stone (who they wanted to keep) no other former Senator has lived up to their first contract after being traded.

Zbad and Panarin never really played together other than on the PP. I think Zib just needed to mature a bit more to become the player he is today. I do think the sens needed immediate help and brassard seemed to be the better option at the moment. Hindsight being 2020 it hurt but there was a thought process that went into that trade imo

From the 2017 team If there was one player that I would have kept it would have been Pageau, someone with a vested interest in the NCR, proving it even today with a 2% stake in les Olympiques. This post hasn't aged well. Given that the Sens...currently last in the Atlantic need to collect 69.3% of the remaining points available to them to have a hope of making the playoffs it seems all but certain that they shan't be playing hockey in May. Surprising? Yes. Disappointing? Yes, but what is going wrong with this team? Their special teams are mediocre, their GA is a bit high and their GF is a bit low...as a result they've lost a whole bunch of close games. It seems they need at least one more year to find their rhythm as they're certainly better than 27th in the league...on paper.

So many people said he didn't play defense because he wasn't physical but never realized it was because he was so good defensively that he was able to create so much offense. Kinda ironic 😆 and I hated the sens, but the dude was solid. Not 100% sure on this one, but I thought he was usually top 10 in takeaways as well. Senators managed to break 3 teams after 2017: themselves, the Rangers for closing their contending window with that series win, and Sharks for dumping a broken Karlsson on them for a huge cap hit. That's impressive. On the plus side, they gave Vegas their captain so...thanks I guess? Video was good but should have mentioned how Karlsson played with a broken foot throughout that playoff run. Ottawa is still a dumpster fire. Debrinket clearly has no interest in being a Senator. Patrick Kane even publicly said he feels sorry for him.

Look, you guys will do better than the Sens obviously, but you guys will NOT win the cup. In fact, you may not win a playoff series again.

I think the Coyotes have been a far bigger dumpster fire than the Senators for the last decade.

Murray eliminated the Sens and went on to make sure they never even sniffed the playoffs. Now he is happy to be a Leaf and will prove this year that he was put here on the planet to disappoint Senators fans by winning the Leafs a cup.

Actually, I am really happy they were in the bottom for those years, If they were higher in the standings or in the playoffs, they will be no change getting these players in the draft

Not gonna say the Brassard trade was good, but it's pretty disingenuous to not mention that the 2017 ECF run happened the season after that trade and that Brassard was an important part of that run.
