It's our second annual year-end program and party, celebrating the completion of another year of Michelle Meow and LGBTQ programming at the Club. We'll have food and drink, a short program, and lots of good cheer.
Joining us as our special guest is Robyn Crawford. In her New York Times bestselling book, A Song for You, Crawford opens up for the first time about her close friendship with superstar Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston was a super-big superstar since she burst on the music scene in the mid-1980s. For two decades she topped the charts and drew millions of fans, and one person was there by her side through it all-her best friend, assistant, and confidante, Robyn Crawford.
Join us for an in-depth discussion about that friendship, an exploration of Robyn's own life and family, and the legacy of Whitney Houston.

I recently listened to one of Whitney music, the album, I Look to you, the song, Like I never left. That song is surely about her relationship with Robyn and the regret about her decision to turn her back on their relationship.

I read the book within 24 hours..it was a good read! It was nice to see what Whitney was like before the fame. I admire Robin for telling the truth about Whitney's drug use, for me if gives me a better understanding as to why she had such a difficult time beating the drugs. Poor Whitney had a lot on her..too much for anyone to bear. Plus having to deal with her own insecurities, and self esteem issues. It seems to me that Robin and Silvia was the only ones that truly had her back. No one else including Bobby, which to this day claims to love her so much will really tell the truth about her drug use, and why she struggled so much. Thank- you Robin for this story..very well and tastefully done!

This was one of the best interviews that I have seen Robyn Crawford do about the book. Much of the time, Ms. Chow allowed Crawford to speak her truth without interruption. It was simply Crawford telling her story...

I liked the way Robyn responded to that first question. WH's sexuality was speculative and no one really knows whether she was gay, straight or bi and quite frankly none of this matters because she's gone. RC indeed was a good friend and this comes across in all of her interviews.
@giuliettamassina7787

Exactly, Whitney seems to have responded to her feelings. Does that mean a label should be slapped on her? She never spoke about her sexuality publicly. Obviously she and Robyn had something special for a time.

Although the interviewer was a little nervous at times, she did something that few interviewers before her had done... she gave Robyn the space to talk and for us to listen. A big thumbs up from me for doing that. I’d become frustrated in previous interviews with the constant interruptions and talking over Robyn when she was trying to convey the truth of her experience with Whitney. This is a lovely interview because that didn’t happen. My only gripe is that it wasn’t long enough, I could sit and listen to Robyn talk all day, she’s that interesting :-)
@whit9875
@whit9875 3 жыл бұрын
I know I’m late but I just discovered the book as well as these Interviews and by far this is the best one I’ve seen because the interviewer gave her the moments to discuss what she was feeling as well as going deeper into everything she wanted to share. Nothing about this was forced! I also feel the exact same way! I could hear her stories about their friendship as well as her life now all day! The way her mind is wired is so intriguing. How she appreciates the way of friendship is so beautiful and her consistency towards their friendship and love platonically for Whitney you can hear how she describes it ran so deep. If you haven’t saw the Wendy Williams one don’t even BOTHER it’s so terrible the amount of times Robyn is Interrupted by that nosey woman!! It was like she didn’t even genuinely care about her nor what she brought to the table just to get some “tea” from her life about Whitney and their “secret romance” not even understanding that it was more than just that. I really would want to meet Mrs.Robyn one day and hear more of her stories for myself and document it for myself because I grew up on Whitney Houston and have never ever got to see her live so when she passed it devastated me. So to be able to interview someone who was so dear and special to her throughout her vast majority of her life is someone I would love to meet. So I pray one day I will be able to meet Robyn Crawford. Lol sorry this was so long but I just had to speak it into existence 😭
@callap8062
@callap8062 3 жыл бұрын
Rachael Mims I stopped watching the Wendy Williams interview because of how hard Wendy was trying to steer it in a salacious direction. I think Robyn only agreed to do it because she wanted the opportunity to humanise Whitney, to make a point that Whitney wasn’t just fodder for tabloid gossip (and Wendy participated in that dehumanising of Whitney a lot), but was a woman capable of deep love, and she was hurting, she was in pain. But no, even during that interview Wendy Williams tried to cheapen Whitney. Unpleasant woman she is.

Whitney was in a hurry to get married & have a baby. She had tried to get Eddie Murphy to act right, but he wasn't ready for her.....Bobby was the backup....and she settled. She was 29 when she married him....wanted to have a baby by 30. Although Bobby was much younger, he treated Whitney like his queen, and showed her a lot of love, plus allowed her to be herself. Little did she know his ways would change as his world in the music industry started fading.....& hers elevated....with also the success of making a huge movie....the Bodyguard. That is when the shit hit the fan....and started going downhill....which was early in their marriage. Bobby was the type that needed all the attention to be on him. But when he became a plus one, on the arms of the great Whitney Houston, he couldn't handle that. He was too immature....with lots of low self-esteem and insecurity! Totally opposite than Robyn, who was really Whitney's true love. Crazy how that all panned out for poor Whit.....just because, during that time, she couldn't be herself and live her life for how she wanted. So sad!
@user-nt5pm7cp4q
@user-nt5pm7cp4q 11 ай бұрын
Because she liked being happy and adventurous and party all the time. And Bobby somehow led her to believe that he wanted to settle down too, which I think was just Bobby wanting her for life but really not understanding the commitment of being with one person forever and growing with them. Whitney was not immature. She was very private about her feelings but if you watch all her interviews. She was always intuitive and empathetic.

Robyn is the only one who seem to have suffered a huge sense of loss with Whitney's death. I didn't get that emotion from either her family or ex-husband. Whitney knew what she wanted to do with her talent from the get go but she wasn't prepared for what was going to be thrown at her. She wasn't prepared for the control from her label, countless of rumours, bad marriage and public ridicule. All those obstacles thrown at her made her forget her true path and led to her fall. The Houston's and Bobby really mishandled Whitney.

Did whitney contacted her prior to death?
@may5588
@may5588 2 жыл бұрын
I think Whitney did call her prior to her death, Robin did not answer, Robin listened to her message. Said she had a certain tone in her voice; but she never called her back. Seems she’s dealing with guilt. I know they HAD a relationship, WEH addiction was so severe it was above anyone in her life. 🕊...rip....WEH BKB🕊...

@@may5588 I sometimes wonder perhaps Whitney wanted to be close to her so bad but couldnt have it and drugs were an alternative to hide that. How did Whitney survive all those years without person she had trusted so much. I sometimes couldnt sleep well if I had a fight with my good friends, and they were not just friends, they were soulmates, best friends, etc.

Did the proceeds go to Whitney’s designated charities ?
@SpicyWife4Life
@SpicyWife4Life 4 жыл бұрын
Which proceeds? The money being made by her family members' individual books? The money being made by her family exploiting her in a hologram tour? The money being made from music sales? The money being made by that snake sister-in-law who immediately made sure to be appointed the Trustee of her Estate (even though Whitney named others)? STFU! Robyn was a true friend and Whitney KNEW IT! GTFOH

Bo answer the direct question Yes.? She pocketed by exploiting or NO all profits went to established philanthropy, some of which she is quite familiar of.. .. she is no different than those you mentioned...charity starts at home!

I met the two of them at a recording studio. She was very domineering possessive and jealous about Whitney. The drugs were flowing. She told me not to look at or talk to Whitney in a frightening tone. She said she was watching me. I was there working on the recording studio w my husband Kashif knew I sang so he asked me to sing backups on a test recording . I wonder what the producer Kashif had to say. About a Robyn

How was Whitney in relation to Robyn? Did she seem like she loved her?

Because most people who have met Robyn say that she was a very calm energy, including producer Narada m Walden (how will I know, I wanna dance with somebody)

@@Ella-nj7my Whitney was chain smoking and I believe she did a line of coke off a stool Robyn put there. Kashif said Robyn was the driver so I was surprised to see her block me going into the sound room with Whitney and threaten me. Not to look or talk to her. Yikes! I was told Robyn didn’t like other woman getting close to Whitney. Whitney smoked did a line but when she had to sing it was beautiful. I remember thinking what a shame she is doing all that to herself. Kashif was a very spiritual guy with crystals, etc. hoped he was a good influence. Wish I got a copy of that track lol

@@Ella-nj7my I can only tell you my experience. I was there w my husband working on the studio. And was glad to get away from Robyn after I helped out. I had a lot to do. I wasn’t there for the whole session. I’ve been around a lot of famous people in music. Very interesting how powerful yet vulnerable fame makes you. I wouldn’t want it.

@@JnTmarie oh wow, that sounds quite scary. I think the drugs negatively influenced them and their attitudes, they could have both been addicted at that point, accounting for erratic behaviour. I know she worked with kashif earlier in her career, what year was this? Thank you for sharing your experience by the way! It’s very interesting to hear, but also saddening that they were doing drugs like that. Although I think they loved each other, they seemed to have a possessive/jealous relationship

Why didn’t the good friend ever turn the illegal drug use to Clive Davis ? Who had medicine for her mom but no early intervention for Whitney as well.. she states cocaine use was as teens? Why never be a true help to prevent addiction prior to the hit records and jet setting ? Lisa put her through therapy but Robyn didn’t help her “friend” to therapy.. I wish Robyn the best but I wish she would have been loyal to the letter in Esquire.. leave Whitney out of the gay agenda .. shame

Robyn did try her best to help Whitney with the drug use ...telling her parents several times and Clive later on...Whitney did have at least 2 interventions. Her dad let her skip going to a very good repeatable low profile clinic when all the papers were signed and everything was ready to go...she got very close with that high jacked intervention.hope it helps you with the story details so far.

rubek bruvi the brother exposed it after Whitney’s death a few yrs ago.....and Whitney did disclose the molestation by Dione Warwick’s sister ... to at least 3 people ...pat.Mary her assistant and I think her make up artist.one of the brothers was left alone or has not spoken up as far. Unfortunately the sexual abuse went on for years.....while cissy was away on tour....I believe this was one of the main reasons behind her drug use and addiction.

What's the deal with not saying that she had a love affair with her? It seems like everyone is tiptoeing around the sexual affair. Americans are (still) ridiculously prude. It is cringeworthy.

Loving unconditionally can also be applied to lesbians to love Whitney unconditionally that she was not Gay... how many times do 16 year olds experiment?? .. Gay men and women have experiences with Heteros all the tine before deciding to be gay .. so why is it y’all won’t let her be ? Let her Rest In Peace.. she didn’t want to be a lesbian so love her unconditionally.. stop making her out to be closeted or confused .. as Robyn said.. Whitney knew what she wanted and she didn’t want Robyn as a love interest/lesbian/ girlfriend.. this is disturbing that you all are disrespectful to her privacy... Had Robyn been sexual with a 16 year old boy we would not be approving it at all but gays want to endorse and recruit .. she was 16!!! Too young for that experience with an adult.

Robyn & Whitney kzbin.info/www/bejne/jofcmJyAadiko7c, the video would contradict your personal take & assumption. It is not so much of dragging ppl to be gay/lgbtq, we just tried to see the truth burried within Whitney's life & death. What was the cause? Bobby Brown clearly was not and never the love of her life. Robyn&Whitney was an open secret back in the days, now it has been revealed, it all make sense. Ps. Bobby Brown outed Whitney way earlier than Robyn's book.
