Many express that Calum Scott's version is better, but I feel like that song doesn't capture the essence of this song, which is being on the dancefloor in the club, surrounded by people and still being completely alone in the clublighting, dancing to the loud music which completely penetrates your body and shuts out everything but your thoughts and emotions, like somekind of collective sensory deprivation tank. It's easy to get to our feelings with a dramatic balade, it's been done a million times. But to capture it through electronic dancemusic is truly something of it's own kind and diffucult to explain. Those who know, know.

Why is there a need to compare? Robyn's original version is amazing, showcasing her true talent and original style. I love the emotions I feel listening to it, picturing myself in a club, drinking to numb the pain & hurt. Calcum Scott's version is also amazing, but calmer and reflective, like there is no escape from how deep the pain feels. So you didn’t know IT IS HER OWN song? She wrote it (Patrik Berger co-writer) and performed it first on her 2010 album Body talk Pt.1 and it reached #1 in her native Sweden and went to #3 on Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs Chart. It is the original. It has since been covered by multiple arists including in 2016 Calum Scott. So all these other artists are in fact interpreting her song. She has had several hits around the world both before and after this release - including in the US.

This is a powerful song. Anyone who has suffered rejection and heartbreak will resonate with these lyrics. Even if theirs is not the club scene. The impact factor of the Csllum cover is simply that it's a ballad and they all have depressive feeling regardless of the lyrics. But the original is set to dance music yet still you can feel the raw emotion of what the lyrics are stating. In other words it's the message drives the impact not the tone of the music it's sung too.

Pretend like nothing does not help everybody, and it will not get anybody who just might got purged out of existance back. I know, I might sound crude but life is what it is. Personally, I think the best way is try to accept it - none of us have any choice anyway. However, there are some quotes about it that is very much true. Such as “Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.” by Isaac Asimov... or a similar quote, "Livet slutar inte bra. Men det är bra att det slutar." by Hjalmar Söderberg. A lot of people cover this song in a very sad way, where they keep the lyrics but change the music. In my opinion it changes the song a lot and doesn't give the same affect as this one. Like it Calum's is the type of song you play when you're feeling sad, but this is a song where you just jam out while fully paying attention to what's being said. It is very unique compared to most music then and even now. She wrote lyrics that are very heartbreaking but used a beat that you can jam to at a party. It is still one of the best songs i've heard because it's done so well. It's so emotinal but yet you want to dance to it, and I think she is one of the few people to ever do this in such an amazing way. Everything happens so smoothly and i see that not a lot of people don't know how to recreate such a thing. They find it hard to use lyrics from one type of music and a beat from another. This is why i love this one the most, it's somehow filled with a lot more emotion than Calum's cover and I don't know how she did it. But this definetly has something that nobody can ever recreate.

I don't mind either version I think they both bring something to the table . They both do their own thing on the song and that's what makes it good. This song is well executed by both singers no comparison really...

Robyns version with electronic music gives the lyrics a bigger connection to the music. The song is about a person being in a CLUB dancing on your own, Calums version with piano and stuff isnt really something to dance too, that version is more of crying on your own while Robyns is dancing, crying, in pain. A song can be meaningfull even tho its electronic music plus Robyn is like a dancepop artist so its obvious why its music to dance tol.

Indeed. This version is a better to dance too, but calums version is a lot better to just close your eyes and listen.

+We love Football no it is not. His voice is far away from being called "nice to listen to" and the piano sound? it is boring! every love songs comes around with an arrangement like this. But I guess this version is more likely to relate to for the casual easy listening people

+Gregor Kittlaus Well, this is your opinion, I like Calums version more.

Rolling Stone 500 best songs ever placed this one as nr. 20! Awesome. Apparently it inspired many big artists with it's style.

Bang on, no cover is better than an original, it's why it's called the original version, the way the song was meant to be

I wish I could say that "call your girlfriend" is my song, but when it comes to love, I'm afraid that "dancing on my own" is ma anthem. lmao

Lol i checked out this Calum guy everybody is talking about in the comments and he is ok but in my opinion he doesnt express the essence of this song like Robyn. When i listen to him sing i wanna lay in my bed and cry. When i listen to Robyn i wanna dance and give it all even though im sad.... I guess it depends on the way you feel. Or maybe youre gonna like the cover better if you heard it before the original. I heard the original first and fell in love with it so idk :D

Robyn: wrote the original song, these beautiful lyrics and sang it with pep giving it one kind of meaning Callum: covers the song, brings his beautiful vocals and puts a melancholic spin on it giving a whole different kind of meaning Both should be appreciated for their contribution to music. Imo they should just do a cover together. Would be truly beautiful.

I am so glad that i know this song and her acoustic version waaayyyyy before that guy covers it and i didn't even listened to that cover, only her original and her acoustic.
