Rock fishing is becoming increasingly popular. Lure fishing with soft plastics is now becoming the norm especially for Pollack fishing. In this episode of The Totally Awesome Fishing Show, Graeme Pullen heads over to the Beara Peninsula in Southern Ireland and gets some great lure fishing tips from shore fishing guide Paul Harris. They go on a rock fishing adventure and get some good Pollack on the way! Not forgetting showing you how to catch them on soft plastic lures.

What a fantastic articulate guest - as a novice I appreciate the technique and tackle chat that doesn't get bogged down in jargon - followed by some great fishing and scenic action. From the videos I've seen so far, your guest selection and production values have been "totally awesome"!

Red Gill rubber sand eels were always the lure for rock fishing 'when I were a lad', they use to be cheap as chips.

I love pollack fishing from the rocks during a beautiful still sunset when the tides are moving strongly. The water in the west of Scotland can be so clear and still that you see the fish flashing up from his hiding spot and hit the lure like a thunderclap. They love a dead zone where they can sit restfully and watch what's moving past in the strong flow. Stay aware because you'll have a hard fight on your hands and snags all around. And at least one big fish on every decent trip. They taste awful though so it's the mackerel I pick up on the side that come home with me.

Great video, but for the summer I would like to see some tips on catching summer fish in marinas and off piers/beaches, e.g. mackerel, small pollack, flounder, cod and dabs, you know, fish easy to catch without much skill.

Some feathers with a 2oz ledger in deeper water for mackerel on bright days. On cloudy days or at sunset use a wedge (24g-48g, one with some blue works best, my favorites are 48g shakespeare blue slither and dexter wedges) on some light tackle for good sport and huge bags of fish. Small pollack aren't worth it and bringing them up from deeper water around piers kills them. Flounder love a smallish ragworm on a running ledger with some colourful beads on the hooklength. I'm no great cathcer of cod and dab so I'll remain silent about them.

Hello sir. If I use Pauls method to get the rubber lure down low ( inline lead and 1 Mtr hooklink) ,won't the lead get jammed up on the rocks. Is this rig really only any use on small pebbles and sandy bottoms? Many regards

Hi guys, great video i recently bought a LRF rod rated 0.5-7g casting weight and am hoping to take holiday to Paul's guesthouse at easter time , does that light rod have the power to play those pollock and cast those heavier lures , or would i be better off bringing the light rod for light jigs and a slightly heavier rod for bigger lures in deeper water? Chris

Hi Scott, It depends on the sea conditions really, what the state of the tide is and how big the swell is. I just use whatever was available in my tackle box at the time, maybe 7-10g? Best to have a look online or ask in a local tackle shop. Mike

I float fish for pollack around Bergen, Norway. I caught my personal best on wednesday last week 5.66kg or just under 12.5 lbs at a depth of 7 meters. The big fish are not always deep.

+Crazy corner I have caught in the last few weeks several Cod over three kg's in very shallow water almost on the surface with a couple hooked right in front of me almost at my feet, and all on a 2012 eddystone eel Black and red firetail, in fact since I've lost my last one haven't had the heart to go fishing because I don't like blanking. Also on the pollack theme not wanting to contradict or cause argument have heard and have experience from that Pollock rise up in the water in the evening, anyway in Norway they do and have caught several fish over 7lb and on more than one occasion have looked into the water and seen some very big Pollock swimming just under the surface along the side and Cod for that matter. Another thing I've seen is flat fish swimming just under the surface and for some distance, the first time thought it was maybe a sick fish but after three or four times now think it's something they must do regularly. But this is all in Norway and a 7lb fish is a tiddler.

+Scott tork I would like to add that in the places where I've seen the flat fish swimming just below the surface the water according to the sea charts is 37 and in excess of 50 metres deep from the shore, Norwegian fjord. I wonder why they do this.
