How big are the fish in this river? Graeme crams in the work so he can grab a couple of hours fishing at the lake. Using a red and white lure that has been very successful for him this past winter he gets in as many casts as he can trying to get a strike. Then, it’s off to a secret river that he finds loaded with giant Grayling, many over 3lbs, and some he reckons might have been getting towards 4lbs. He shows what a good quality river should look like and there are plenty of fish to be seen underwater, together with some lush green streamer weed. It doesn't end there, as he gets bored and suddenly decides to pick up the paint roller..but it’s a truly big job..he wants to paint the whole house! Finally he gets hold of some baby frozen Squid and hopes to use them for boat and shore fishing bait, but they are also top quality food, so it’s back to the kitchen for a nice cookup...Enjoy.

I fish that stretch of the blackwater frequently, it's a long stretch of free fishing. Good for chub, roach and even the occasional barbel and carp. Lovely stretch of the river. Thanks for the videos. It was your river fishing videos that got me into fishing the blackwater. I have caught so many fish trotting a float using the techniques that you teach. Still yet to find a barbel on the float though!

Its been a manic week what with spending the day helping the boat to be sorted and towed away plus I had a long film scheduled so I knew there was just no way I could edit in time. I don't finish editing until 10pm but its not enough time after a full day's work. Easy if you have nothing to do but edit films, but I don't have that luxury. I caught the stream just right for filming so was lucky.

Just come across your channel and it is fantastic. I am in the midlands myself, and live in an old Hall. We have a lake out the back (open for day fishing) that, apparently, is recorded in the doomsday book (so has been there since 1086!!!!). Is covered in Lilys. Has been stocked with carp, but I believe it has some 'wild' carp alongside them. Also, apparently, a catfish or two.... is a beautiful surrounding. Hall was built in 1677 and backs onto the lake. Always here if you want a poke around!

Lovely shots of the secret river-I walked along there on a guided birdwatching day fairly recently, it is so picturesque! Our guide was telling us that they have had to unfortunately fence off the river in large sections to stop dogs entering the water. Apparently the flea and tick medications were getting in the water and of course it's dangerous for wildlife.

I really enjoyed the footage of the chalk stream took me back to my youth when most small rivers and streams ran clear, it is possible to find the odd one these days that still does even without the benefit of chalk. There is a small stream in Bedford runs through an industrial estate on the outskirts of town it has been cut and worked over the years by various bodies but still runs clear unless in spate. narrow enough to jump and about 15 inches deep on average it is often possible to find good sized fish swimming up stream on the hunt, this water has all the appearance of a man made ditch yet still it clings on to life full of vegetation and with a good current it refuses to submit its life force to the hand of man, a lesson to us all.

Good Morning. I believe that your squid🦑 is the same as ours here in Greece. This is what we do 1) Hold by the tentacles and hit it 100 times against a rock to tenderize it 2) Pull out the head and tentacles guts and quill (the plastic looking bit) 4) Cut the body into rings and dip them and the head and tentacles into batter and deep fry. 5) Serve with a wedge of lemon. If you soak it in milk it becomes tough and rubbery. Please try and let me know how you got on. Regards Chris.

But I don't think they would pack them up on the trail, they'd eat them right by the river side, lake side, and there would be a pile of shells on the bank. You would rather hope so. I have seen rivers so overgrown they look like a backwater of the Amazon..and they were clear banks when I was a youngster..I have no idea why its not cleared..all it does is snag up more rubbish which then blocks floodwater, pushes the current to the bank edge which erodes it,thus making the river shallower and thereby slower..all it takes is some manual work, ropes and a couple of chainsaws of the long Silky saw that Mike uses on T.A.Outdoors.
