On one of your other videos you talked about providing your videos for those who can no longer rockhound actively. I am one of those, 70 years old with severe arthritis, and I do so enjoy watching these. Thank you so much, and you are so correct about the media and all the bad news, so refreshing to be able to watch your quests, all are good, but of course I love the rock quests best.

Testing to see if its JADE. Tough identifying it. It can be almost any color. Green is the rarest color and the most money. It will be heavier than a stone it's same size. It won't be glittery, it won't fracture like other stones it will feel greasy to the touch. If you can break off a piece of it and look at it under a magnifying glass you will see a fabric like structure to it. Threads in other words. It's real treasure if it resembles an emerald and is semi translucent like 20k a carat. Found on the western coast states and parts of Canada.

I found some stones just like those black ones you did. I thought the same thing as you as Well. I had my self convinced They were meteorite fragments. Mine were filled with iron and highly magnetic. I gave one to a buddy of mine that knows a geologist, When the geologist had a look, he said they were volcanic and explained how they ended up where I found them. Even the distribution pattern that they were laying in look like a meteorite broke up and landed in almost a straight line. I guess volcanos can make a similar patterns and the area I found them in is surrounded by long dead volcanos. But everything about them fits the description of a meteorite. Well Live and learn. Thank you for the video my friend, happy hunting!

That tip had several flakes removed on the thick end, by pressure retouch, that overlapped the break. Someone tried to rebase it. I paused it several times and looked very close. The long flake that runs down, and the ones next to it, have a bulb divot at the top. Very cool artifact with a good story. Loved it! Who knows, it may have been a lost point, reworked hundreds of years later, by a whole other person. In Ohio, I found a Clovis tip with side notches added thousands of years later.

@@gregadams5847 Very good idea. I doubt Nate kept it because he's a very ethical cat or I'd ask him to film it in closeup. He only keeps what he can legally. I absolutely love this channel and I'm glad I'm not the only one that watches with such eyes!

Jason1975ism We agree there. Yes, he did put it back. Which is great. Sadly, not enough people do that. It tells a story where its at, its little more than a shinny object if it's removed. I grew up due east of from Nate in Esparto Ca. Spent a lot of time around Blue Ridge, Cash Creek, Clear Lake and North Coast area. The videos are like slipping on old comfortable clothes. Great videos.

Honesly, if the black stones are very dense, heavy, and somewhat magnetic, there is a very good chance you have some slag. slag can be in very beautiful form as well. but i have a bunch ust like that in one of my gardens, and mine are certainly slag. [edit] i researched meteorites after finding mine, and now know there are distinct surface features to those, and you can tell them right off by looking at them.

Testing stones everything below a mohs hardness scale amount of 6to6.5 won't be a semiprecious stone. There are exceptions. Opal hardness 4, Pearl hardness 4 as examples. Quartz like the crystal point kind and quartz type rocks are semi precious gemstone material anything above quartz in hardness 6to6.5 would be considered precious stones. Use a knife blade as your tester. It's hardness is 5 and when you scratch a stone if quartz it can't scratch it and you'll have desirable material. Or if you can scratch it then it's probably best left on the ground where you found it. Unless it's just super colorful or unique.

Meteorites- look at its shape. Often it will look like fat on one side and tapered to a point on the other side like a tear drop like it fell out of the sky (it did) or it can just squarish shaped. It should be heavy most are made of iron but not always. Sometimes they are magnetic and will behave like a magnet. It should have a dark melted like cover on it. (It was burning before it hit the ground) no absolute way to field test for it other than it's metal or has a teardrop shape or has a melted looking dark skin. Most university colleges in the geology departments can probably identify it for you.
