I've seen hundreds of reactions to this song and was not expecting to learn something new but I was wrong. Great job!!! The thing with BAND-MAID is that they play a wide range of styles, they have even done a couple of acoustic concerts, they also have an alter-ego called BAND-MAIKO that mixes in traditional Japanese instruments. They have songs that sound like they came from every decade from the '70s until now. Their complexity ranges from punk to progressive. Thanks for checking them out.

Hi Phil! Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. Fans of Band-Maid call ourselves Maidiacs. The band calls their fans Masters and Princesses (from maid café culture) Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

I never get bored when you pause the video because you always add something of value, whether it be something informative or just giving your opinion. The little “thrash off” between the two guitarists is a bit of fun. When Miku sacked herself as lead singer she didn’t want to just stand there with the microphone so she hung a guitar round her neck, even though she couldn’t play it. Kaname has taught her over the years and Miku is now pretty good, even having her own signature Zemaitis guitar. This little battle has Kaname egging Miku on to play faster and faster while keeping up with her until Miku can’t do any more. Miku then falls backwards and Kaname raises her hand showing she’s still the best. You’ll also notice the band gathered in front of the drummer pulling faces at her to try and put her off. They are great musicians, but they have a lot of fun as well, something that seems to have been lost in other parts of the music world!

Yup!! Called “Show Them”. They kept the structure pretty straightforward but has some cool elements from the sneaked video a Warning crew mistakenly leaked online (it’s gone now 🤷🏻♂️) But the Maids have a few chill songs. Check out their most recent release - “Bestie” - OMV - which is actually a collaboration with guitarist Mike Einzinger of INCUBUS. Then other songs are - “Daydreaming” - OMV - “Wonderland” - OLV - “Memorable” - OMV - “About Us” - OLV But the song you really want to see & hear is their 10th Anniversary Okyuji show closer - “Endless Story” - OLV - you’ll see their hearts and the love they have for their fans. Nice to meet you, Phil. Thanks for your reaction to the BAND-MAID song. I hope this performance was a great encounter for you. Since I worked in the Japanese music industry and concert hall was my workplace, I have probably experienced more gigs than the average music fan. And now that I have retired from my job, there is a particular reason why I went to 21 BAND-MAID gigs (they call them お給仕OKYUJI) in the last year alone. It's because their gigs get better and better with each passing show. Even the next day's gig changes the setlist, and no two gigs are ever the same. Even the MC's are different and laugh out loud hilarious every time. In other words, every moment is a one-time-only chemical reaction, all of which become unforgettable moments in a lifetime. After every OKYUJI, I think that I will never be able to experience anything better, only to have that thought be completely overturned at the next OKYUJI. LOL So, the moment OKYUJI is over, I find myself wanting to go back for the next one, and eagerly awaiting that day to come. Their playing is great, of course, but I bet you'll love their songs. Almost all of their repertoire is filled with gems. 🥰 The five members' sounds are meticulously intertwined, complex, dense, and yet catchy ―― a novel musicality that combines these seemingly contradictory elements into one brilliantly executed song(s) and performance(s) that will surely captivate you, I believe. ☝

You are in for a treat, Band Maid is something special. This song, is song 22 in a 23 song setlist. Their energy is crazy. Their recent DVD, was 3 and a half hours long! 33 songs! (10th Anniversary tour Live from Yokohama) Band Maid is very much involved with their fans. In their shows, they take breaks to play a few instrumentals, and also to talk to the audience. I got to see them in 2022 and it was the most amazing show I have ever seen. During their shows, EVERYONE in the band has a chance to shine. And again, they are all about entertaining the crowd. Never seen a band care about their fans as much as these ladies do A few of my personal favorites that you might want to check out Blooming - fast paced, face melting melodies Day Dreaming - Ballad, personally my favorite, emotional About Us - Another ballad, written for the fans during the pandemic as a love letter Memorable - A song they wrote as Thank you to the US fans during their tour here Catharsis - The Acoustic version that was done for a Christmas concert Puzzle - The acoustic version if you can find it. Saiki's voice is just astounding in this version, and Akane is doing backup vocals Hate - Official Live video from Yokohama, AMAZING back and forth between Misa and Akane Endless Story - Official Live video from Yokohama, Concert closeout song, Emotional and extended From Now On - Instrumental, first time I heard it, reminded me of Epic Boss battles. lol I would also like to recommend checking out Ohrenje's channel. He has done Documentaries on all the members www.youtube.com/@Ohrenje

She had vocal chord polyp surgery in 2017 caused by the intense workload and since has been well taken care of by a combination of having a vocal coach, managing their live sets to give her breaks, a healthy lifestyle and fitness regime.

In the past, Domination (Live) has been the song to introduce people to Band-Maid. They also have two fantastic instrumentals - Onset (Live) and From Now On (Official Music Video). That being said, in November 2023, they did 10th Anniversary Concert at Yokohama Arena that produced multiple amazing performances that they released as official music videos. From that set, Hate (Live) has become one of the most recommended songs from Band-Maid. Personally, I am a huge fan of their performance of "endless story" which was the finale for the show. It is a love song that they transformed into a love song for their fans, especially by adding a new verse. It really showcases Saiki's singing ability. As other posters mentioned, Saiki had vocal surgery (about 1.5 years prior to this 2020 recording of Domination). In the following years, her voice has become even stronger. Band-Maid has a huge catalog of many amazing songs. One other that I highly recommend checking out, that doesn't get as much attention as some of their others, is Puzzle. They have an official live video for it (electric), but in 2018 they played it acoustic in a concert at Zepp Tokyo. The acoustic version is haunting and one of my favorite Band-Maid songs. P.S. Just wait till you find out about Band-Maiko.

Awesome info on the song structure! That is all thanks to Kanami (lead guitar and main composer) who is classically trained on the piano and learned guitar in high school. She is the "mastermind" behind 99% of their music with heavy collaboration from Misa (bass), Akane (drums), Miku (rhythm guitar/BU vocals) and Saiki (lead vocals). A truly inventive and enjoyable music experience with Band Maid. While everything they do sounds "familiar" they are able to make it their own.

Nope, Saiki the lead singer isn't classically trained. She has had vocal training after undergoing throat surgery some years ago for polyps though. Great breakdown of this great song! I've watched many reactions to this track and yours is top 10. 👍👍 My favorite parts are seeing the small pigeon (Miku-red rose) flap her wings franticly along with her guitar sensei, Kanami, just before the drum solo bit. The way they brought it down from the solos to the softer parts is a Band Maid staple, they always let you come up for a breath before they push you back under. The B-chorus has such a special feel melodically and rhythmically, reminds me of some beautifully flowing classical music, like Gustav Holst's "Jupiter". Another trademark of the Maids is "no verse same as the first", which probably covers 98% of the 130+ song catalog. 🤘

Welcome, Phil. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 200 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XWaJppgpJnorM Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX2lkHiGiJlrfqc) And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. kzbin.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts: 2023 Yokohama 10th Year Anniversary Concert “Endless Story” kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJKUqmCIh7uXbZI ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHLHiKF_h896l80 Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6K0n35_gbdoq5I Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD. And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue: Shot by Pat McKee from their 2023 US tour concert in Detroit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epjbhmCDi8-nl5I See the Maids 2023 Rockville Festival’s short-set perfection performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJu9nIGbpKygnsU If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, live streams, CD, DVD/BD & merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. [BAND-MAID NEWS] BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the Acoustic Christmas 2021, ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Yow dude kinda feel sorry for you. Band Maid's rabbit hole by itself can take over one's life ( it did mine ); and then you have the Warning's rabbit hole, well you're young you can handle it lol. I'm a 73 yr old rocker lucky enough to have seen all the great 60's-80's bands ( you would not believe how cheaply too- tix today are stupid high ) and seeing Band Maid blew all my prior life's concert experiences away. Great insights very good reaction and explanations also

I don't know what to say except thanks for checking out our Maids. They are special for sure. This band has a crazy story from nearly being disbanded just before the release of their first music video to going on the path to world domination. If you want to go further down the pigeon hole I would recommend Hate? (live) or Don't You Tell Me (live) if you want cool breakdowns. Warning and Unleash if you like cool music videos. Daydreaming and Endless Story if you like ballads. Choose Me, Play, Puzzle if you live grooves. If you want instrumentals check out From Now On, Onset and Without Holding Back.

Thanks for the reaction and comments. Really enjoyed your analysis. These ladies are legit. Arguably the best live rock band on the planet, their stage presence commands your full attention. Exuding pure energy and joy, they leave you completely wanting more and yet satiated at the same time. Do check out a live version of either Moratorium, No God, Play, Hate?, or Real Existence next. From Now On is an instrumental track also worth checking out. The latter showcases their musical proficiencies. Until next time...Cheers!

One thing you're gonna find out about Band Maid is that they love a good lyrical coda to finish out a song. They will continue to surprise again and again. What to hear next. The other big live flex track is called Hate. It's on their channel.

I love the coda in "Choose Me".

"Expect the unexpected." That pretty much sums up all of Kanami's compositions. The more you get into Band-Maid's music, the more you realize just how many genres influence their music, and just how different all their songs are from one another.

Your reaction video just came across my feed and was going to see what you thought of the best band ever. I am 55 and have seen Pink Floyd live, but these ladies are the best band I have ever heard. A new song is coming 7/5 and a new album follows that (The Warning will appear on their album as well. ) So needless to say it will be a good Summer.

I think if you're a music nerd, you'll really like them. Kanami (lead guitar) is the musical genius who composes the core of almost all their songs (since 2016 or so with 'Alone'), and she is a big music nerd herself. She loves a full sound with lots of layering, but at the core, she has a great ear for melodies, which is kind of a signature for Japanese compositions I find. Band-Maid's choruses are almost always catchy where you can just jam out, and they will throw in tons of other great influences from a bunch of genres in their songs for flair.

Many Japanese rock groups have world-class technique for playing each instrument. Recently, Japanese music from the 1980s and after, including rock, has become popular around the world. World-famous guitarist Marty Friedman says that this is because Japanese music has complex chord progressions that are different from the chord progressions of typical Western music. Your reactions are blowing me away! I've been listening to all genre's of rock and roll since the mid 1960's and my 2 favorite bands in the world are now BAND-MAID and THE WARNING. Your next song up should be HATE the official live video. There are also documentaries on KZbin that give really great insight into each member and tells the story of how BAND-MAID came to be. I enjoy writing songs using chord progressions, you picking up the that unique melody structure in the chorus was eye opening for me. Keep it going man! The Warning and Band-Maid rabbit holes are never-ending.

Really enjoy seeing you break down and explain what is happening in the songs. Things I may notice, but not think more beyond that, you tell us why/how it's there. I'm very new to Band Maid as well, and through my being a Warning fan. You really need to Misa go off. I was floored by her. I can suggest watching Hate? (Official Live) for some excellent bass work. Among other excellent guitar playing.

Saiki is Karaoke trained. As a kid she would sing karaoke while her Mother would be socializing with her friends at the neighborhood bar. The lyrics are written by Miku Kobato, rhythm guitar, vocals. She is highly respected in Japan for her lyrics. She is also the founder of the band and the Spokes-Pigeon.

@@PhilZero I'm from the British Invasion, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix era. I've always loved electric guitars, don't play them, but love them, the heavier the better. In the 90's, I fell back to Classic Rock and listened to a lot of songs I knew well. I'm not into rap, unless it's RATM. I got into KZbin as a way to see old video performances of bands like Vanilla Fudge, which I had never seen live. I started watching reaction videos in order to feel like I was sharing the music with friends. I saw Jinjer Pisces and immediately jumped on their music. What I'll call it is speed metal - great musicianship but fairly repetitive. I play harmonica and have been in many jam sessions, and speed metal reminded me of that. I stumbled across Liliac doing Enter Sandman and was into their music but then they went glam and I looked around for other young bands. That's how I found The Warning. Money was the one that hooked me (the supporting Foo Fighters one). Their whole story grabbed me and I've been going way back and deep. I watched some Baby Metal but the girls are not musicians. I have seen a lot of reactors who are into Band Maid and the other J Rock and K Pop bands, which the members of The Warning are also into. This video was, to me, a speed metal video - great musicianship, great voice and more like a jam session. It does not replace the basic things I get from The Warning - song structure, stage performance, Dany and Pau's "it factor," and Ale's cool. I would love to see The Warning do more solos and stretch out their song times and I think that will come in time. Since they've been at it so long and it's so well documented, we forget that they truly did not enter the mainstream away from KZbin until they signed with Lava and honed their skills during the pandemic. I am interested to see what The Warning learns in Japan. If you watch their documentaries, you'll hear that they are always looking for something to learn and try out. That's why their songs are so varied. I'm just into their story. BTW, I'm hooked on your channel for your analysis. For example, you are the only reactor who recognized the influence of J Rock on The Warning's song structure.

@@PhilZero I feel you ! Big part of the world slept on the Japanese music scene ! There are so many rock and metal bands that if you start reacting to them , they will supply you with content for years :D May I suggest a another one? Awesome reaction and review man! The band overtook the chilis as my favorite band a few years ago. Treat yourself and go see them the next time they drop by your section of the world. Seems like we came up in the same music era with similar tastes. The best way I could describe being at a maid show is that its got the even more of dynamic musical showcase than most metal shows but with the chill and silly laid back atmosphere of an early 200s blink show. Everyone has a good time the whole time.

I would like to say that most of the band members are all well trained in the music school. They sure know well how to write, compose and perfect their songs with stuffs. Only Miku (the girl with twin tails) has almost zero knowledge of music theory and she didn't even know how to play guitar when she was forming this band. (Yes, she is the band founder who brought all of the other girls who has more knowledge and play the instrumental better than her to the band) Anyway, she is a well trained vocalist since she dreamed to be a pop singer back in the day. She used to be the lead vocalist of this band but realized that her voice is too cute. Then she decided to recruit another band member who is the lead vocalist as you can see now to take her place. And now she is a rhythm guitarist of this band. Sounds weird but amazing right? This is one of the reason we love them so much.
