No effects in post production- that is really her. Keep in mind she is a contralto, so at the lowest end of the female voice, but with phenomenal range: D flat 3 to B flat 5. You should watch a few other clips- for her polyphonics and multiphonics, yodeling skills, ability to belt, and so on. An amazing singer. Songs to check her out: Rechenka, Wicked Game, Human, Jodel Time (when she was 13!).

Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion. Everyone sings, but one of the judges is special. The one who most vividly appreciated Diana's voice. The one who was standing listening to the song. He is an opera singer who is considered one of the best voices in the world. His name is Yusuf Eyvazov. He is a dramatic tenor, the husband of the great opera star of our time, Anna Netrebko. Yusuf is welcome at all the best opera venues in the world, where the best of the best voices of the world sing, on such stages as the Mariinsky Theater, the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the Bolshoi Theater, the Paris National Opera and others. Who, if not he, can appreciate the voice? And he, at the end of Diana's performance, was crying. It's worth a lot. This is worth more than the opinions of millions of reactors and judges. This episode's guest star Yusif Eyvazov said: "You know I'm struggling to articulate what I've felt. I've heard many music in my life, I sing along all over the world. I have seen a lot of concert halls and people, orchestra and musicians.... ....This girl got just an incredible talent hidden inside, and may God give that this talent gets into good hands, people who can do with it what she deserves in the future which Diana herself deserves."

Hi everyone, I am from Brazil, a week has passed since I first heard for the first time Diana’s voice, and as of right now, I’ve probably watched all her performances, 15 times or more each… not ashamed to admit, but reading thru comments, seems to me I am not the only one, YES, I’ve been bitten, bewitched, drugged…enchanted! I am not a singer or artist, just a regular dude, but I can honestly say I never experienced thru music what I am experiencing with Diana’s performances, it’s all pretty new to me and I love it. At this point I am just wishing she will be able to cope with all the talent she’s been given, and all the attention she’s going to receive from people all over the world, that she grows as a decent woman ( not what we have been seeing lately by other singers) which by the way, I think is not going to happen, by the decent way she dresses up and behaves… (thank you Diana’s mom for that), anyways, I really wish to be seeing more of Diana’s performances in the years to come, and be blessed with her voice and artistry.

Cheers mate, I love it. That's exactly the kind of thing I look for when analysing a singer's voice. From what I've heard so far I'm not really hearing obvious polyphonics (though I'm admittedly far from an expert on them,) and I'm inclined to think that people are simply calling it that because of her unique tone and their desire to find a word to describe it. She tends to sing with a lower larynx than the average in contemporary music and more openness in various places in her throat from what I can tell, and the way she has to narrow other areas in order to maintain clarity emphasises different formants than what I think a lot of us are used to hearing. I haven't seen too much of her yet though so I could be completely wrong and maybe she does display polyphonics more obviously in certain performances. I'll have to keep listening and see what comes up. Thanks again for the link.

I'm getting where that comparison is coming from. They must have some similar influences cause there are elements in their singing that seem reminiscent of each other in spite of how different their tone and styles are. I've read some of her backstory and it's tragic, and I'm sure we can see some of the impact of it in her performing as she is rather intense with how strongly she emotes while singing on stage for such a young girl. Will definitely give her channel a look, I'm sure there's lots of good stuff there. Cheers for watching my reaction to her.

Greetings from Scotland! I'm not going to dispute your observations but I will give you a little background on this phenomenal singer's life - so far! Diana is 19yo currently but I've been following her since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she now has around a 4 octave range and it's increasing. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices at the same time! HOW you ask? Please continue reading............ Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her, strangle and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) she dragged her to a bus stop with a broken collarbone and abandoned her, saying "Survive if you can" A passing relative took her in but because she cried constantly (naturally with a broken collarbone) she took her to the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage! She is a rapid learner! This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. At 13yo she held her 1st solo concert and one of the songs she sang was in a very rare Sephardic Jewish/Spanish dialect, a song called "Me Voy" (I'm leaving) with a power and emotional commitment that staggers belief! kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp_PmHVvZc6HnJI (She has already sung in *7 languages, Russian, English, French, Spanish, German, Ukrainian and Arabic!!!*) She was already winning every contest in Russia and other countries that she could get to. Then at 14yo Diana took part in an amazing Russian project "You are Super" for abandoned/disadvantaged children (because Diana spent time in an orphanage) The 1st song she performed shocked the judges and audience so much, it went viral. February 10, 2018 "Dernière Danse" in French kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqexeot4n8Z3rqs The rest, as they say, is now history!.............

Thank you for sharing, though it's obviously a very sad story to read about. That kind of trauma from what I've seen tends to age children and make them come across as really mature for their age because of having to process that kind of horrific experience. I'm sure we can see elements of that in Diana's stage presence, as she seems incredibly intense while performing for such a young girl in a couple of her earlier clips that I've been checking out. It's horrible that she's been through such an ordeal and that she has that kind of pain to draw on, but it does give an amazing depth to her performances I must say. I hope she's in a good place now mentally and physically. She's a very gifted singer and I look forward to seeing how she grows as she I'm sure she'll only improve with time.

I think it is better to say she has multiple resonances when she is not singing falsetto. Those resonances are based on her unique anatomy and sound almost as if she has a second voice. However, when she speaks she does not have that effect. I think when she drops her huge larynx she is able to create such unusual set of sounds mixed.

. Lol, I'm not that young. And the thing I love most about singing is that no one's ever figured it all out. There's so much to learn and experiment with, and to be able to share that journey and engage in discussion about the topic with others on the internet from all around the world so that I can improve my own abilities (and possibly help others do the same,) is an absolute joy, one that I wish I had access to when I first started singing. I'd have a hell of a lot more figured out and would of wasted a lot less time if this kind of forum for discussion had been around when I started.

This much is nothing wait to hear her start hitting the yodels and the really crazy sounds😄 She can go lower and higher, you meant to say C3 at the lowest not C2, that is the range she covered in this song is indeed C3 to Bb5, but she has gone down to F2 before, her range is definitely 4 octaves from what i heard of her personally but her vocal coach has said that her range is four and a half octaves (i do not know the actual notes she never mentioned them) and it is growing since she still is only 19 (she was 18 when she sang can't help falling in love.).

There are hundreds of covers of this song and few touch me and come close to Elvis. Diana makes her own song out of it. Diana, also called goosebumps queen, sang the cover of the cover of the song by Elvis Presley in the first episode of the competition 'Шоумаскгоон' (ShowMaskGoOn). This was Diana's first adult competition in November 2021. She was the youngest competitor (aged 18) and wowed contestants and spectators with her first song. Rules: 9 winners of the previous shows 'The Mask', 'Superstar' and 'You are Super' took part in this new format and had to sing in 9 categories: folk hit, song at the end of the 20th century, Soviet song, pop hit, song your choice, new music, song from cartoon or film, rock hit, Grammy The man who jumps up is the world famous opera singer Yusif Eyvazov. He is also the husband of the world famous opera singer Anna Netrebko. He is the guest of honor and awards 9 points. Each episode has a new guest of honor. The competitors have to assess each other and have praised Diana to the skies. They said of their performance: 'Diana has no competition on the show - she amazes with her talent - it's impossible to tear yourself away from her - you want to listen endlessly, they're in tears and they're even afraid to blink' . 8 participants (Diana cannot score herself) gave Diana the highest score (9). She won the first episode... and later won the contest. * Diana Ankudinova (live)and Olympic champion figure skating Alina Zagitova - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZnOdXSMba2qnbM * Alexandra TRUSOVA and Dmitry MIKHAILOV (Figure skaters) : Can't Help Falling in Love by Diana Ankudinova LIVE kzbin.info/www/bejne/f52me4WEj9-ib5Y * Original cover (dark version): Can't Help Falling In Love feat. bach - Tommee Profitt - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnXFoJiHm6amrdk * Original: Elvis Presley - Can't Help Falling In Love - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqXYh4ivo9Foibc

You were wrong, she's polyphonic. A simple internet search would have told you that. No backing track, not reverb (yet reverb is used in totality anyway) She is unique. A side note; all those judges were her competitors in the contest.
@Grays_Plays Жыл бұрын
That's the problem with simple internet searches, they quite often give back simple results even when the answers you're looking for aren't so simple. And I'll trust my ears more than the opinions of random internet experts (or idiots,) any day of the week. Her voice does not fit within the scope of any of the definitions of vocal polyphony that I've seen. Call it my own terminology preference if you like, but it is what it is. You can argue for sure that there's several prominent formants going on, certainly when compared with most singers, but I've not heard 2 distinct pitches at any point in this performance and the enthusiasm a lot of commenters seem to be trying to convince to the contrary with in spite of not being able to point out specific examples when asked leads me to thinking that it's merely an internet myth. She sounded awesome regardless of what label you wanna put on her voice though. I don't see an issue there even if it does ruffle some people's feathers to say so.

Hi, Gray! Thank you very much for your reaction! Diana's fans can be really over-defensive at times :) I don't think she needs any kind of agressive defence. She is something outstanding as it is. She often makes covers her own way, this is her artistic choice. The song really sounds unusual in a minor key - a bit sombre, dramatic and more solemn. Sounds great in my opinion. I also enjoy her covers of Human, Wicked Game and Dernier Dance (the last one is in French). Thanks again!
@Grays_Plays2 жыл бұрын
Hey Maya, pleasure as always seeing your comments. Thanks for checking out my reaction. Her fans seem lovely to me, it's just the usual stuff which I'm bound to run into on the internet. It's great fun to get the chance to engage with people and see so many different perspectives towards music than my own and I'm enjoying the engagement I'm getting. I'm sure there's a language barrier here to be fair, and I'm sure that accounts for at least a couple of the negative comments I've gotten so far as I don't think my more cerebral appreciation of some of the artists I'm reacting to is translating well with that barrier being an issue. It's bound to happen. But yeah, Diana seems to be experiencing massive success and I don't think she needs any defending. Her skills speak for themselves, and I love the sound of her voice here. I will definitely give your suggestions a look, thanks very much for sharing them!

That's where you're wrong. This is a competition show where digital voice manipulation is not legal. That's her real voice. They are allowed to use only 2 effects, reverb and delay.

Could be right mate. That's an incredibly prominent reverb for a live performance compared to most I've heard, but that would explain some of the plosives not being as prominent as I'd expect with a pre-recorded voice.

Thanks for the reaction! There is no second voice on the recording, as it was a live sound show. The judges of the show who stood up at the end are professional singers, the one who stood up during the song is a famous opera singer. He has a really polyphonic voice, a rare dramatic contralto.

It’s a second voice on the track, not polyphonic. Doesn’t take away anything from her amazing skills
@NebraskaGonvilleJones2 жыл бұрын
Even Diana has talked about the recording before (on one of her live Q&A vids) it was Diana’s voice layered over the top in post production. This doesn’t mean it’s any less amazing though.

@Nebraska Jones, I thought it was hers, but with a deliberately different tone to fill things in. Sounded twangier and more present from what I could tell of it. I wonder why they added that in post for just that section and not the whole song? I'm sure her voice was perfectly good without double tracking.

@@NebraskaGonvilleJones Somehow, I have missed this. Can you give me some clue so I can find it?
@jbach1738 Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a backing track in this piece to accentuate her natural ability. However, she does have the unique ability to ring out the upper overtones of the primary note. This really makes it sound like she is singing two notes at the same time. If you listen to this piece many times, and pick it apart like a total nerd, you can distinguish between the backing track from other voices, and the upper overtones ringing in her own voice. This recording is obviously very produced, and possibly manipulated. However, it is fairly easy to find unprofessional, unproduced, home video type recordings of her, where these upper overtones can still be clearly heard, even in poor quality recordings. I'm not exactly sure how she does it, but I have seen some videos of doctors and vocal experts speculating on the possibility of her having a unique anatomy. An unusually large pharynx that can easily produce the rich and dark timbre of her voice without unnatural pharyngeal stretching, as well as the ring in the upper overtones without tongue and lip manipulation. I would love to hear her live, without amplification. This would certainly clear up the controversy about her polyphonic singing, as well as the discussion over her being a true dramatic contralto. These controversies aside, she is obviously an incredibly rare and talented voice.
@Grays_Plays Жыл бұрын
She's got a really low larynx when she sings compared to the overwhelming majority of female singers I've heard, and it's interesting cause she doesn't really have that quality to her voice when speaks. Makes me think it's a deliberate stylistic choice that she utilities rather than a factor of unique anatomy (everyone's is unique though to be fair.) That low larynx makes some interesting frequencies pop out when she twangs to get note clarity and I reckon that probably accounts for the unique overtones we hear. I'd be very interested to know if that was a conscious decision or if it's just how she habitually tends to sing anyway, but either way it's a cool sound for sure. And yeah, it occurs to me that post production could be what's going on here for some of the sounds that I'm hearing as there are definitely bits where it's not just one lone voice singing the main melody, but I've heard rawer recordings of her and the same basic quality that most people are picking up on is definitely there. And I agree, live without amplification is the best way to objectively tell what's going on. Everything in the recording chain always has an impact on the end vocal sound in any other setting. Completely agree though, obviously an incredibly unique voice. Cheers for commenting.

Yes, it was a show, but not an ordinary show. In it, professional popular singers, each of whom has a wide fan audience, compete on the same stage. They give scores to each participant separately (except themselves) from 1 to 9 without the right to repeat. All participants are professionals and everyone is interested in winning. Winning such a show on the central channel allows you to raise the singer's rating even higher than he was before the show. This is a live performance and all kinds of overdubs, except for backing vocals, and sound effects won't work on it. Other participants will be against it, since this is a show of performers, not sound engineers.
