Stakataka and Blacephalon has debut in Ultra Beast Raid prior to Sendai - Pokémon GO Fest 2024. For Eastern Hemisphere, Stakataka will emerge from Ultra Wormholes.
Stakataka is a Rock/Steel type Pokemon, such that it is weak against Water-type moves and double weak against Ground/Fighting type moves. As a raid boss, Stakataka has 180 attack and 247 defense stats. Stakataka learns Take Down/Rock Throw as fast moves and Flash Cannon/Stone Edge/Bulldoze as charged moves.
Stakataka has 247 defense stat, which is similar to Registeel and Regirock. This along would have meant it would be a tough raid boss. However, its fatal double weakness to Ground/Fighting types leaves it extremely vulnerable despite its high defense.
Under 10% friend bonus, without weather/friendship bonus and party play, Shadow Groudon, Shadow Excadrill, Shadow Machamp, Shadow Garchomp, Shadow Hariyama, Shadow Mamoswine, Shadow Blaziken, Shadow Rhyperior, Shadow Toxicroak, Shadow Ursaluna, Shadow Golurk, Shadow Sneaseler, Shadow Regigigas, Shadow Flygon, Shadow Hippowdon, Shadow Rhydon, Shadow Poliwrath, Shadow Donphan, Shadow Magmortar, Shadow Gallade, Shadow Alakazam, Terrakion, Lucario, Keldeo, Landorus-Therian, Groudon, Excadrill, Conkeldurr, Machamp, Garchomp, Galarian Zapdos, Breloom, Donphan, Cobalion, Mamoswine, Hariyama, Pheromosa, Landorus-Incarnate, Buzzwole and Virizion can all defeat Stakataka as Duo Raid.
For Mega Evolution/Primal Reversion, Primal Groudon, Mega Garchomp, Mega Heracross, Mega Blaziken, Mega Alakazam, Mega Lopunny, Mega Swampert, Primal Kyogre and Mega Medicham can also defeat Stakataka all by themselves under the same setting.
As shown by that loooong list, Stakataka is a relatively weak raid boss, and Mega Evolved Pokemon are not required to defeat it as Duo Raid. This time, Groudon, the base Groudon instead of its Primal or Shadow version, is used for this Duo Raid. While there is absolutely no reason to use it alone, nor it is an effective approach because of its lack of damage boost and mediocre power, it will fight against Stakataka alone. On top of using only 1 single base Groudon, Friend Bonus and Party Play are also not used for this raid.
For Stakataka fast moves, while Take Down is not resisted by Groudon, Rock Throw has higher base power and also receive STAB from Stakataka, such that they both hit equally hard. Stakataka's Stone Edge is resisted by Groudon, but it is hard to dodge in return. At last, Rock Throw/Flash Cannon Stakataka was found for this Duo Raid.
Overall, it is a pretty straightforward recycling raid, where Groudon would try to dodge all Flash Cannon. As usual, it would leave battlefield before it faints if it is unlikely to survive until next Precipice Blades. At last, Stakataka has been defeated as Duo Raid by a single Pokemon which is only average among raid tier list, without any damage bonus on attacker side. This show just how weak Stakataka is as a raid boss.
