I went for a test-drive on a Trident yesterday here in Lisbon. Such a step-up from the CB500X and now, my standards are polluted. The only negative I was able to spot was the suspensions' stiffness which is probably there to enable a more sportive experience on twisty roads. I got the impression it has a tad more power than I can currently handle. Cheers
@RocketMan_Moto3 жыл бұрын
I can imagine that the Trident's suspension did feel very firm to you, but this is as much down to the very soft setup on the CB500X. The Trident is much more fun, but the CB is more of an all-rounder :)

You make such nice and simple videos, it's so refreshing. I pretty much agree with everything you say, except that I happen to like the red highlights. Well, beauty/beholder. There's only thing I would definately change, and they are the rear indicators. Since they're on the tire hugger, they seem to stick out to much. Discrete ones like the DENALI LED Micro Indicators may look better. That's definately on my list of mods when I get mine.
@RocketMan_Moto3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I agree that, if they had at least put the indicators up under the seat, then maybe the rear hugger thing wouldn't have looked quite so ugly. I'm sure some better alternatives will be out soon :)

On the brakes: if you decide you want to keep this bike for a long time and want to sort the brakes out I belive there is now brake kit for the trident 660 from british legends in France that replaces the stock brakes some with twin 320mm disks in the front and a 255mm disk in the rear and brembo 4 pot calipers all around. It's about 1900 euros for the full kit or 1400 for the front kit only. Might be a bit overkill for the Trident, but it's always nice to have the option. Greetings from Aveiro!

After receiving from the dealer, at the house I noticed a small oil leak at the oil filter, but after tightening and decreasing everything is now dry. And the left mirror was not tightened normally. At the first gas station, I drove 245 km before the low fuel level warning. And I installed a radiator protection from evotech-performance.

I finally got mine! Got it last Friday. So far I'm really enjoying it. I'm amazed by how nimble the thing is. I have 2 gripes. 1. I come from a cruiser background so this style of bike is new to me. I find when I brake, my weight gets shifted to my wrists. I have to constantly remind myself to really hug the tank with my legs. That seems to help. 2. I find the seat very uncomfortable. The ergonomics of the bike is very comfortable, but the seat feels like a wooden plank. Then again, I have a really boney butt so I'm sure that doesn't help.

Done 1500 miles in wet and dry. Bike is absolutely brilliant. Quick shifter is a blast , makes you go up and down the box just for the hell of it. Road and Rain settings , that is a mystery. You can set Road mode and also accidentally change TC and Map to rain. These stay on until you remember to reset to default.🤔

Also fitted OE bar end mirrors and no problem filtering. They look a lot nicer than the big wing mirrors. Fitted a pyramid extends fenda on front , this has kept the rad clean. Also found the swing arm cover plate caps come off easily to enable an Abba Stand to be used. I also found the suspension has settled and the feeling back through the seat is not so violent🤣

I'm right over 400 miles on mine and am quite pleased with it. I am glad the flashing tach has moved up to 5k (at 300 miles). I like that I can be down in the revs (3.5k or so) and it will pull nicely when you open the throttle without having to downshift when in town. I don't plan on modding it in any way. Tail bag is coming soon, but that's about it. And I like the rear plate mount/fender. In fact, I don't even notice it when I'm riding. An updated or optional throttle map to help with the tip-in muddiness would be good.

I wonder if the Trident's top end is neutered the way the Tiger 850 and 900 are... by limiting the butterflies at open throttle at higher RPMs. If so, you could just edit the tables once your warranty is up. I think the Tiger 900 is limited to 83% throttle at high rpm.

( I asked when was the 660 based sport touring going to be released but they had no information yet ) I am looking at a used 1200GS or the new Yamaha Tracer 9 GT. And I really miss Algarve.. few days ago I remembered buying schrimp in the " Mercado de Olhão " Nhom..

Also from the Algarve, im not sure whether Id go for the trident or the cb650r. The Trident shop is in Loule which is 40km+ away from me, but the Honda(Angel Pilot) is only 10km away, would that affect your choice in going for either one?
@RocketMan_Moto3 жыл бұрын
I bought my Grom from Angel Pilot. Service is ok, but nothing special. Daniel at Triumph is a really nice guy and always ready to help. So in answer to your question, I would be prepared to go the extra few miles to Loulé :)

Great follow-up review !! I too traded in a BMW for this, a 2020 F750GS which sadly had no soul and was like a school bus and a space shuttle had sex. Yea was neat all the screens and gizmos and was roomy but I could have fallen asleep on the thing and it probably would have just rode itself... meh... BUT the Trident...yessir.... this is a bike that begs your engagement. I wasn't lucky (quick) enough to secure a pre-order for the Matte Black so I had to settle for the white and found a parts distributor in Germany (Triumphworld) that gave me all the part numbers to change the front fender pieces, radiator ends, under tail panel and tank cover to which ever colors I wanted to mix and match. Regarding mods: I second the black TEC adjustable levers.. Thanks for recommending, they are very good and excellent quality to the price. Puig is currently working on a very decent looking windscreen for the Trident you can see on their site. I too would like a little more "gription" on the tank sides for diving into turns since currently there is a lot of slick plastic, but I found R&G has some tank grip strips (part: EZRG824BL) cut for those areas beneath the Trident logo where your grip is needed. Lastly R&G also has a pillion blank plate kit to cover where the pillion peg mounts would go and are quite nice (part: BLP0047BK) I'm still in my break-in period and one thing I'm noticing is the lack of that "induction whine" that I keep hearing on other vids. I'm hoping its an unlock thing one the RPMs are freed up. Regardless, this bike is a head turner and is an absolute blast to ride. one year shy of 50, This is my 6th bike (cruisers and street) and I can say so far this one has ticked 90% of those (my perfect bike) boxes and got a feeling I'll be keeping this one in the stable for some time :)

If you balance yourself on the mid of the bike and remove hands from the handles does the trident tend to lean left and hold slight left or does it hold the line straight? Mine arrived last week, and I think you are right in terms of this being a good bike for me - someone who is getting back into riding after 30 years! I am less picky about many of the things you mentioned as grievances, but that goes to my lack of experience. I love the bike, and have ordered the tec levers on your recommendation and as my hand was very sore trying to reach the indicators in particular. Other than that the bike is very forgiving for novices like me, but the 660 engine will allow for long term ownership, as opposed to me having bought a 500 or even smaller bike. I was right at home on it on the second day. Thank you for your info!

If 10 were adventure bike upright and 1 moto GP sports bike, I'd say the Trident would be an 8, the Street Triple a 5 and the Speed a 4. The Street is closer to the Speed than to the Trident, imo :)

I had a chance to buy one of these but then found a new (2020 left over) Street Triple R for $8995. All said and done it would end up costing me about $1k more for the ST-R. Tbh, I was more concerned with which would be more comfortable, even if the ST-R was about $1800. off the list, I heard some reviewers say they found the Trident a bit firm. You've ridden both bikes. How would you compare them comfort-wise? I live in NYC. Somehow, the ST-R just seemed like the better deal. I havent completely pulled the trigger yet. Monday, Im going to head out to the dealership. Ive never even sat on one. I was initially looking at the Yamaha XSR 900 because I want something with a pretty upright seating angle. I really just want it to be comfortable. I guess I'll see what Monday reveals,, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks. Ive been working my way through your videos. Great channel. Lisbon looks like a perfect place to have a bike.
@RocketMan_Moto3 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) The Trident is more comfortable than the Street Triple, but only in that the riding position is slightly more upright. In terms of seat comfort and suspension, they're pretty much the same. The XSR looks like a good proposition, but I'm not keen on Yamaha fit & finish (although the XSR is one of their better quality bikes). We used to live in Lisbon, but moved down to the Algarve 6 months ago - warmer and more rural :)

Though Ive never been to Portugal, yet, it still looks pretty familiar. Thank you for the input. I'll just have to see how it feels. I am a little worried about the ergos. I was even looking at the XSR 700 because that was even more upright. I may still go that route. Or there will be another Triumph model with a more upright seating posture available at the dealer. tx again.

Yes, it's a beautiful part of the world :) A Trident-based adventure style bike is rumoured to be coming, although I doubt we will see it in dealers until next spring at the earliest.
