Been a fan of Vince Gill since Pure Prairie League. Saw him just a few years ago at WHPAC, a small converted movie theater in Westhampton Beach, Long Island. He was awesome and took the time to sign autographs for folks hanging around his tour bus. For me, he is the PERFECT Eaglette! After all...Eric Clapton doesn't invite you to join the Crossroads Guitar Festival if you don't have the chops! Ht did a perfect tribute at the Kennedy Center Honors. I have seen the Eagles several times, including flying down to Fla from LI for the When Hell Freezer Over Tour...where have you been? Can't wait for Vince to become a permanent member and see them on tour. For me, it wd b the next best thing to seeing Glen play again...the only thing missing would be the chemistry between Glen & Don and the boys...that will NEVER come back.

I saw the original four piece Eagles at the Felt Forum in NYC 1973.and I saw them on the History tour two years ago. I was hoping that Don Henley would say "Enough!" but hearing Vince Gill is going to take Glenn's place, I have changed my mind. Vince Gill is one of the best singers I have ever heard and his guitar playing is awesome (not just good awesome). This is something I would go see gladly.

I disagree. This is a fan based decision to bring Gill on board because he adds a solid country dimension to their sound.. I think they are going to do a country rock record because the arrival of Gill is not some random event. It has meaning.
@matthewdagnan3396

My take, yet as our esteemed colleague Newberry would state doesn't matter one shit, Gill is a genius selection, money maker, bring a massive fan base to off set the Eagles purists such as myself. As well as fantastic vocalist and musician. However, hard core Eagles fans have been hoping for a united band and the true sound to finally come together again. These fuckers are old and will all be dead soon. It would have been amazing to see but Henley hijacked the band with Frey years ago, fucked over members and took control. It's about what Henley wants. His way or the highway. I'm sure they will sound good but different with Gill. Not what countless fans wanted but the money will Balance out with Gills fan base and fans that only care about the songs not the sound

I'm a huge Vince Gill fan. I've been listening to his music since I was 14. I saw him in concert for the first time in 2005. He is soo great in concert. I myself like that Vince is part of the Eagles. I think he's going to bring something to the band. Yes he's mostly a country singer, but Vince has played with rock legends. He sang with Joe(now I can't wait to see Joe and Vince played together on stage), James Taylor, Eric Clapton and probably many other rock artists. Vince can definitely rock and I totally forgot about that. Vince is one of the most respected artist in country music. Everybody wants him to either sing or play on their record. That tells you something. They also called him a triple threat. A singer, songwriter and musician. I always hear that triple threat. Also Vince has sung with Don, Joe and Timothy before this(I don't think he has ever sang with Glenn). He sang backup on I think 4 songs on Don's Cass County album(I love No, Thank You and Vince blended very well with Don on that song), Timothy sang backup on I Can't Tell You Why when Vince took part in the Common Thread album back in the 90s, and Vince sang with Joe last year in Nashville on Take It To The Limit(I really hope Vince sings this song because this is definitely in his vocal range). Plus he and Joe played on stage a few times. So I think its going to work out when it comes to blending and harmonizing. Vince is known for his great harmony when he sings with other people. Also people don't know is Vince was almost part of Dire Straits. He would had played rock then, but of course Vince turned Mark down so he can focus on his solo career which at that moment in the 80s was not going well. He didn't make it big until When I Call Your Name album. That's when people started to notice him. I've never seen the Eagles in concert. I saw Don twice for the first time early this year and I saw Joe last year in Memphis. I enjoyed both of these guys. I actually said in 2015, when Glenn gets better, I'm going to make sure I see them because at that moment Glenn would bounce back and they will be back on the road either that spring or summer. Boy was I wrong and still to this day, I'm kicking myself for making the effort to see them in either Memphis, New Orleans or Birmingham. I know some people want this to fail, but I'm cheering them on to succeed. I'm looking forward to this. I definitely would love to see them in concert when they decided to tour(which I think they would). I don't know if Glenn would had approved or not approved this, but I think he would. IMO If Cindy is ok with the guys continuing on, then that's all that matters. I don't think they would had continued if Cindy didn't approved. Good luck to Vince and Deacon too.

I'm a huge Eagles fan and when Glen died I thought for sure, they're through. I thought no one could replace him and still have that Eagles sound. I'd never dreamed Vince Gil would join them. I haven't heard them together but he's a perfect fit. Like Joe Walsh, I hope he stays.

I love Vince! I saw him once back in the early 90's at a very small amusement park in WV called Camden Park. Admission was $1. I could've hung around & met him but had to get to work for midnight shift. Also that same summer saw Steve Wariner & Garth Brooks. For $1.00!!!! True story!!! Oh my gosh John!!! So sorry you never got to see the Eagles live. I saw them 6 or 7 times in the 90's both with & after Felder. I preferred with. He & Joe were simply magic together!!! Sure hope they tour again! Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for your great channel.

CAN'T THINK OF ANYONE EVER BETTER TO be in the EAGLES. . He is one of the best guitarist's on the planet. One of the best vocalists on the planet. As far as I've ever seen or heard of ,one of the most genuine and kindest hearted people ,one will ever meet. He is precision personified. The EAGLES will be nicer and still be country rock as well as one of the best shredding bands on the planet, with Joe Walsh ,and Vince Gill on guitars. There will be nothing they cannot play ,and extremely well. These guy's will be killers live and in the studio. .I will see them any time they play near my home state. iF THE PRICES ARE NOT TO HIGH. They will be a legendary band again. P.S. Felder would be great to have one of the real Eagles back with them in the long run.

I dont mind nes singers/players coming in. As long as the music lives on and is good, Im all for it. Look at Skynyrd, , Journey, Kiss, Styx, Sabbath, Foreigner, and so many others. New members but the music is still great. And the important part is they continue on.

I think it is awesome. Vince Gill is one of the classiest and most talented persons on the planet. The Eagles are my favorite all time band. And I think Vince will be a major asset addition. People think he is only "country". But those people don't really know Vince Gill. And for those prejudice anti country snobs out there who don't realize the talent that Vince has and that he will add to the band, The Eagles is actually a country rock band. Their hits and albums have hit high on country charts. This addition puts a smile on my face. I am a professional mucision and think the Eagles will have a great addition. Can't wait to see them in concert.

When Vince Gill was being rumored for a spot in the lineup, I hoped like hell it would happen! He's still got good vocal chops, the dude can rock out and play guitar, I mean what more can Don Henley want? He's perfect. I don't think they could have picked anyone better. But do I still wish Don Felder would get back into the fold? Hell yeah!

I so agree, Don. I've been a fan of Vince's music since I was 14. Vince can blend well with anybody. Vince has sung with Don, Timothy and Joe. Its going to be interesting to hear how all five of them sound together. I wonder if both Vince and Timothy will be doing the high parts. Probably will. And Vince plays a killer guitar. I think both Vince and Deacon will do a great job. There's a reason Don picked Vince. He wouldn't just pick anybody. Him or Glenn.

Ron Garvin I think that would sooth a lot of the anger coming from all the people saying that the band should have never reunited after Glenn died, saying "it was always Glenn's band". That's just not accurate, Glenn and Don both founded the band, and quite honestly I'm sure that Glenn would want the band to go on if he wasn't there. But I agree, the band would be a lot better off I think if they had Walsh, Henley, Schmidt, Meisner, Felder and Leadon back.

i can see this happening and Henley is smart enough as a talent and business man to know how great of a songwriter Gill is and if the chemistry is there they could pull off some great new material especially as it seams the well has cried up just a little for the Eagles. personally after Glen's death i wondered how long it would take Henley to try to buy Glenn's share in the business but this is a welcomed surprise and i'll give it a chance just for the music's sake:)

Observations - 1) Henley's last solo album (Cass County) was very country, so he was already leaning in that direction. 2) It would be a fitting tribute if the sadness of Glen's untimely passing allowed egos to be put aside and former band members (Leadon, Felder and Meisner) could join in for a set or two. 3) While several postings refer to Vince's time in Pure Prairie League, he was not the original lead singer when the band released its breakthrough album "Bustin Loose". He will be great because he's an incredible musician/singer and the nicest guy in the business.

This was definitely unexpected (by myself) but he will be an addition to the excitement of attending an Eagles concert. I hope this amassment of talent will be able to set aside their combined egos because when you have that amount of talent on a single stage, infighting can become an issue. Great choice, but how long shall it last?

This should be another rebirth for the Eagles. A touch of Glenn Frey still present through his son Deacon and the one and only Vince Gill. Vince is no stranger to being part of a group for becoming a solo artist he was front-man for the great Pure Prairie League many years ago. Vince is all about making music regardless if he is the front-man or just sitting in the background adding to the cause. This isn't the first adjustment for the Eagles considering they have had three or four major member changes over their musical "Long Run". I'm anxious to hear the new sound and hope that Vince will stay with the group for future recordings...... To me the Eagles are America's reply to the one and only British Invasion Band, the Beatles...... The Eagles sore once again!!!!!!!!

They were never able to replace the vocals of Randy Meisner and the way they treated him and the other two ex eagles and only because of hotheaded Glenn Frey who singlehandedly disrupted the one and only top band of the century. He made them perform at political fundraisers and of course, being from Michigan and living in California he was definitely an autocratic liberal. Too bad Don Henley was just as bad as they were more interested in total ownership of the name and all that went with it. Randy stayed as much out of the frey (excuse the pun) and never bad mouthed them even though he along with Bernie Leadon were the original band members who together simply became non-existent. After Randy was let go because of a fight with Frey over not wanting to sing'Take it to the limit"as his throat was not up to par for such a hard set of notes to hit each night. Just as Don Felder made a statement about a public official who was important to Frey and was asked to support Cransto when he was thanking the members and Don said "You're welcome, I guess!" Big enough deal for hard headed Frey to want to fight with him. The two of them ended up with exactly what they wanted total ownership of the Eagles. I only wish more true eagle fans knew the real Eagles band.

A bit shocked when I saw your headline, John, certainly surprised as who saw this coming, but upon reflection, sure, this works--the band is voices as much as it guitars, and Vince brings both and song power, too. And surely Don doesn't want to sing lead on every song, tho' I hope he does tape the show and maybe sells some merchandise afterwards so the band can get to their next gig.

Glenn Frey is an icon and he conceived the Eagles - but I love the Eagles and I love Vince Gill. I think Frey would approve. As stated in this video, it's a different Eagles. But this music is too good to not be performed for people when most of the members are still healthy. I wish all of the well - this will be welcome news to the vast majority of fans.

I just learned tonight that Vince Gill WAS Pure Prairie League in the 70s. (I was converting an old thrift store LP to CD and read the song credits.) I never realized the connection! Well, I dare say that Pure Prairie League fit into the same song style as the Eagles. A far more likely replacement than Joe Walsh ever was, although he proved himself.

And you could argue Joe Walsh and Tim Schmidt aren't original members but everybody accepts them. I just hope Vince doesn't do too much damage to the hotel rooms. Now that Joe has been sober for almost 30 years, he can room with the new guy Vince and make sure he behaves

clubredken Well, Joe Walsh might not be an original member but he's been an Eagle since Hotel California (77')!

clubredken I love Vince Gill and think he will not only do the past songs justice, but also be able to contribute to anything new. As far as Joe and Tim not being original members, I don't think it bears much weight - just look at how the last original member was treated... Bring back Don Felder please.

iMatagora Don Felder was not an original member either. It was only four: Frey, Henley, Leadon, and Miesner.

I Like it. Vince is certainly a better singer than anyone in the band.

When you combine talent with talent you are only going to get one result, high quality music. Comparisons are a waste of time, the great Glenn Frey has gone, so it will be a different dynamic, but quality is assured, whether it is your 'cup of tea' or not. Give this new 'combo' a chance, you might like it for what it is

I really love the eagles I do wish that Henley and Felder could just make amends I mean come on it's been 16 years now I mean honestly it would be a great idea to have Vince Gill Joe Walsh and Don Felder three amazing guitar players two of them more rock one more country is just perfect for the Eagles

This is a great decision and very smart by going back to their country roots which expands their range by being stronger in country (which they had become weak in) and yet keeping the rock in their range.

LA News on March 17th reported that Randy Mesiner, Bernie Leadon and Don Felder will also be part of the East Coast and West Coast Shows.

Ha ha...I get it. Thanks for the response. I think Don Henley is right in bringing back the old guard--Felder and Meisner and Bernie--they are all getting older so let's make music while we can. I like the choice of Vince Gill because he gives the band country credibility with his country chops and he is not coming cheap. I would bet that Gill is getting way way more than a journeyman guitarist. I would be willing to be that if Gill is on board the Eagles will make a country rock record and drift away from their "rocker sound" to a more country sound. Just my 2 cents.

The only real para dime in life, as we know it, is that things change. In the Eagles it's important that the band can do all the older music be the same wonderful standard that we are use to. As for the future; Their new music will be judged on it's merit and inalienability. Frankly, I'm looking forward to the next set of great hits....so get busy!

Gill will never be more then a hired hand, Deacon will only be an Eagle because he has his father's last name and His mother owns 33.33% of the Eagles.

How could anyone NOT think it's a GREAT idea? I think it's the best addition in history. I'm sure if asked Jackson Browne would have taken the position but he's more of a spare these days than anything. Vince Gill is a big shot and the Eagles are big shots. Put them both together and you have one hack of a lot of big shots.

Vince Gill was TERRIFIC at the Classic West. He's a consummate musician and when he was on the stage, he blended in, played the music and merged seamlessly with the group. He was, AN EAGLE. Definitely, this guy is ALL talent. Vince Gill is a solid guitarist and singer, and as a result, he keeps his ego in check. It's why his addition to this esteemed band worked so well. Those going to the Classic East are in for a real treat.

Vince will fit like a glove with the remaining Eagles; he's perfect. And it was Frey who booted Felder, and Glen got more and more egotistical.

I have to say that Vince Gill joining the Eagles could not have been a better selection. Gill is one of the best musicians (guitar, vocals, song composition) on the planet. The Eagles will now be the Eagles continuing onward. No one lives forever. RIP, Glenn. We miss you dearly. Vince will do your memory & legacy a fitting & respectful continuation. God, bless them all. :) Richard
