What A FIND! WHAT A SERVICE YOU HAVE GIVEN! - I have watched and practiced a LOT of guitar tutorials over the years and taken a lot of paid internet and in-person lessons but I have seldom if ever seen instruction this good. You packed more into this 18 minutes than anything I have seen. It is the kind of thing that gives so much variation in sound with minor variations that it motivates guitar players to keep playing. -- Thanks for the clear instruction.

Playing an A major Buddy's way makes it a lot easier to transition between A, D, and A7. I was struggling with the solo on Peggy Sue where on the A chord right before he goes back to E he lifts his finger off and back on the b string second fret{A sus2}. It's a lot easier to do with your middle finger than your pinky. I think I'm going to start fingering A the alternative way from now on, thanks.

Thanks very much! I got my first guitar in 1980 (I already played ukulele). It was much tougher to learn back then, eh? At that time I didn't know anyone who played rock 'n' roll guitar.

Exactly on which planet did you live? 🙂 I barely knew of any other use for guitar. Started with an English band on Ed Sullivan playing She Loves You.

I think Americans use the term 'rock 'n' roll' more broadly than we do here in England. We tend to use the term when referring to original 1950s stuff like Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, etc. Although they played a lot of rock 'n' roll covers in their early days, we wouldn't usually call The Beatles a 'rock 'n' roll' band. The only guitarist I knew in my first year of playing was a folk musician -- my uncle. He started out playing American folk music (Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Carter Family, etc.) in the 1950s during the British skiffle craze (roughly 1956 - 1958), as did The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who, Van Morrison, etc. That's when guitar playing really took off over here. About the same time as rock 'n' roll was hitting the charts. I'd say a foundation in folk music is really handy for playing 1960s rock and pop though. And I played (and still do) plenty of that.

The English nuance is admirable. You keep the term for what we refer to as Early Rockers. Yep, we cast the net wider using Rock and Roll as a more general description. Once again, as I found out when I attended Oxford, we speak American and not English. 🙃Cheers 🍻
