What a pleasure to see Ann before the 80s hurt her precious heart so much that she had to let Nancy do all the talking. It's great to see her happy and independent again. (Although she's married, that's a sign that she got over the pain and dependency on Nancy.) Ann has been one of my biggest vocal inspirations for as long as I can remember, and I missed all of these early years. It's a lot of fun to see these times. Thanks to the poster!

The problem is that when Ann "gets over her dependency" on people she seems to treat them like rubbish and toss them out. Whether it was Roger, Steve, Michael, Mark, Denny, Ben Smith, Dan Rothchild, and now Nancy she got what she wanted out of them and tossed 'em out. Maybe she's like that because Michael Fisher did that to her, but Ann has left behind a trail of people who feel used and abused, to the point that she and her sister don't even spend time together anymore. That's sad, and it's on Ann. Nancy was very protective of Ann in the 80s and 90s and got her through that painful part of her life, and yet somewhere along the way Ann decided that her voice was everything and the rest of the band doesn't matter. That is liable to become a very lonely life when that husband of hers either abuses her like he did Nancy's kids or passes on (he doesn't look very healthy). I feel bad for Ann at this point, very well could be a lonely old age for her, and the last time I heard her that voice wasn't doing her anymore favors, in the high register anyway.

The more dirt I hear the more Heart bums me out, stopped listening to them after the 70s, two great albums 2 so so ones before they totally sold their soul to the Rock n roll circus, that sale was pending on this interview, this is the kind of crap that made me pack in for punk rock in the 80s.

@@greggasiorowski4025 I loved their early stuff, way more than 2 albums for me. As for the hair metal part of their career, there are parts of it I like (most of what I like from that period isn't what was played on the radio) as they had some really good tracks on those albums, but the record company wanted them for one thing and released singles that didn't necessarily represent the albums or band. Really liked their 1994 album Desire Walks On, and have enjoyed a couple of their 2010-era albums which were more similar to their early material. So I'll always like the music. It's just that after getting to know a couple of people who have been in that band I've learned that there are serious egos and that the "victim" story Ann likes to tell isn't entirely accurate according to people who were there. As one person put it "Ann didn't do anything that Ann didn't want to do whether it was clothes or music or camera tricks" -- read into that what you want. Were people mean and cruel? From what I've heard not within the band. Were people worried that self-destructive behavior was going to damage the band's image? Apparently so. But somehow that story ended up being turned into the issue at hand becoming everyone else's fault, yet everyone who has been through that band except Howard Leese has been fired at some point, and the only reason Nancy wasn't fired is because she owns part of the name (Ann apparently even planned to go on tour as Heart without Nancy in 2017 until Nancy threatened to call lawyers and issue press releases trashing the whole thing. In fact lawyers apparently did get involved to sort out who could legally do what without the other). The moral of the story for me, and I think it's true of any band, is that just because you like the music it doesn't mean you'd like the people. It's easy to build up people you don't know into being wonderful, benevolent human beings but rarely is that the case, especially in entertainment. There are egos everywhere, and the stories you hear are developed for PR, not necessarily for accuracy sake.

@@buckysnodgrass9252 I like to think the music has a life of its own apart from the artist like a child, at least it's been a comfort, never understood groupies or wanting to hang with artists, can't remember a case where it hasn't been major disappointment, when it comes down to it, & I even remember Ann echoing this, the feeling you get ultimately comes from yourself.

The girls are still great today, but what people don't realize is they were both raised in a military world which creates mental strength and courage. Military families usually strive for their highest potential and recognize those people around them who are not. Ann may have the voice of one in a million,but the odds that Nancy compliments Ann's voice perfectly and is also a one in a million guitarist, seems almost cosmic, yet they themselves would say, that there are many who miss their musical potential by allowing others to suck the life out of it.

October 27, 1980 'Tomorrow Show' with Tom Snyder "Tell It Like It Is" was released as a single, and was also put on the 'Greatest Hits Live' album which was released a month later on November 29, 1980. Heart had just completed their 1980 'Bebe Le Strange' tour. They were hitting the Television Circuit now. 'Tower of Power' provided the Horn Section, This show was broadcast from New York City.

I had to giggle a little when Ann said that Led Zeppelin was really heavy. I guess they would be back then in my parents generation. In mine... Ann was an ugly duckling in high school -- heavy set, long greasy hair, etc just like 80% of teenage girls in this country. She's not being humble, but is trying to show today's young girls that it's not about being a beauty queen, it's about using your talents and shooting for your dreams. There's a great chapter in their book about Ann going back to her high school reunion and one of the guys who had been very cruel to her in high school suddenly acting like they were best friends now that she was a rock star. I won't ruin it for you in case you decide to read the book, but I'll just say it didn't go well for him.

I actually met them at 12 in the summer of 1978 here in Memphis at the Hyatt Regency hotel and went swimming with Nancy in her 2 piece white bikini. Her boyfriend was actually jealous of me because me and her really clicked on the rock and roll conversation and what not, what a chump he was, he actually ran me off and she jumped his ass for it, oh well! I started playing guitar at 7 in 1973 and had a Les Paul and a Marshall half stack at the time. I could only top that with the FACT that I met and ate lunch with the Rolling Stones the very next day!

@@RockNRoller66 what a cool story, it makes me want to share mine with you. in 1981 i was 20. the rolling stones were touring that summer, and i found out heart was going to open for them for two shows in boulder, co. so i got my money together for a flight to colorado, and headed out to boulder, w/no concert tickets, no hotels. when i got there i bought a ticket from a scalper for each of the shows, and bc i had nowhere else to go, i was one of the first admitted into the stadium. i got to see both shows from the 3rd and 4th rows. the stones, heart, and george thorogood. i remember sleeping on peoples lawns in my sleeping bag, no one called the police on me. imagine doing that now lol

I guess if she calls getting rid of the guy who came up with the riffs for Crazy on You, Barracuda, Mistral Wind and who created the instrumental section to Magic Man "fat" then I guess she's right. Ann is the best female hard rock singer in the world (in my opinion), but it wasn't her voice that made people buy those early Heart albums; it was Roger's riffs. Ann and Nancy were folk singers and weren't in to hard rock, and it was the Fishers who had the idea to play hard rock, and the great riffs were Roger's. If it weren't for Roger and Michael none of us would know who Ann and Nancy Wilson are today. Ann has a right to not like Roger and Michael, but for her to dismiss Roger as "fat" when he's the main reason for Heart's early success is pretty disingenuous.
