Mick was an OG. He was the Cus D’Amato of the movie’s. You’re right it’s crazy, but in all fairness he wanted nothing to do with the rematch because as he said, the beating Rocky took should have killed Him and He should be happy with his accomplishment. How about that, a trainer who had nothing more concerned with the safety and well-being of his fighter than the big pay day and glory...only in the movies.

Likewise, I was an amateur boxer up until 9 years ago when I was 19, bcz of the activities my brothers and participated in and despite us trying to turn over a new leaf after cowards the had beef with us, shot our mother's trailer up. My mom was having a girl's night of sorts. Her, my 7 sisters (4 by blood, 3-in law), my lady at the time and our sons. And it was the second time dudes almost killed, my children and their mother. I and my brothers decided it was time to get out the streets and get actual jobs and careers to take care of our family with. And we did so for almost a year, up until July 17th 2013 when we were playing basketball (I had 8 brothers, so we typically did older versus younger). We were having a great time. And out of nowhere my life as we knew it for the better part of a year was over. Driveby shooting in broad daylight in a community, tbh I still don't get it. I held my second oldest brother trying to help him and to the outsider looking in, you'd think I was encouraging him to fight to keep living. But through therapy I learned that I was rather begging him not to die. I'll never forget seeing his soul leave out his eyes as he breathed his last breath. So much chaos, fear, desperation ,confusion and etc with adrenaline, I didn't know that I was shot until I woke up in the hospital the next day but it was actually 4 days later and during this 4 days, I lost 4 more brothers. I was crushed and destroyed, when I got out the hospital and tried to returning to boxing in hopes of going pro, I couldn't move like I used to. My dream was gone. It took a while but seeing fights and fight movies like this inspired me to fight again. Ultimately fighting out of the darkest and hardest portion of my life. So I can totally understand where you're coming from

Man i love the difference in training from Micky and Duke. Duke being more of the sweet science, working on stance technique and staying a safe distance to use the jab effectively setting up combinations. Micky on the other hand trains fighters to have great stamina while using solid footwork to set up the power shots on the inside and destroying the body. He knows enough of the sweet science to use head and waist movement but his jab work is below average at best, but he makes up for it in the body attack and pure raw stamina while training his fighters to gain as he says, "greasy lightning speed."

His trainer basically tells him that going into the fifteenth round. His score advantage is even more decisive in this fight than in the first movie, but Apollo wants the knockout too badly to play it safe. He was a true champion who wanted the best man to win, even if it wasn't him. And he would rather risk losing the title than live with the ambiguity of a split decision all over again.

That's not what he wanted though, if he just stayed away and let the bell save him he would have been right back where he started: People would be taunting him saying that he's a coward and that he won by a technicality. Apollo would have rather lost with dignity than won by pussing out.

This movie got Me amped up and it also got Me into some fights I shouldn't have been in..but either way, I love it. Go Rock!

This appollo Creed would have destroyed Drago
@jamesshunt51235 жыл бұрын
Maybe. But by Rocky IV we get the impression Drago is the most powerful monster Rocky has ever faced. This monster easily defeated a past-his-prime Creed and therefore I get the impression a Creed in his prime would have lasted maybe 4-5 rounds but still lost. I also believe Clubber Lang would have defeated Creed. Rocky wasn't a technical boxer when he went up against Apollo. He was a slugger who won by sheer will and he could hit hard - even if many of his punches didn't hit at all. A technical boxer *with* Rocky's will would be an all-time great. This is the boxer Rocky became in Rocky III. Had Rocky been the great combination of technique and iron-will in Rocky II then Apollo would have gone down in a few rounds. Here's the sum total. Nobody ever claims the Rocky series are realistic and they certainly became increasingly unrealistic in the original 1976-1990 run. For each movie the opponent had to become an even bigger threat and a greater monster. Clubber Lang knocked out the old slugger Rocky in two rounds so Rocky had to re-invent himself. Lang was a bit over-the-top. Drago is just a comic book villain - and that's meant in a BAD sense. Comically one-dimensional and unrealistic. How hard could he hit again? That's not even humanly possible. Lang had a personality. Drago is just a staring stiff. Nonetheless within the *context* of the movies it's clear Drago is the most powerful and dangerous opponent Rocky has ever faced. I don't see how the 1979 Creed would have done much better let alone winning against Drago. And if Drago really hit as hard as he did Rocky should have been knocked out in a few rounds as well. Only Rocky's iron will made him endure. Rocky IV was just a silly allegory for the Cold War. Today people would have laughed their a*ses off if Rocky (had it been made today) went up against some Middle Eastern guy called Mohammed (peace-be-upon-him) "allahu ackbar" Mujahedin La-deen (sounds like Laden). Instead of giving Rocky a real boxer to fight in Rocky IV - I'd like him to face a young boxer with an iron will but with no technique. That way the story could come full circle and Rocky would be facing a younger boxer reminding him of himself in younger years. It would be far more poignant, youth against experience, than some ridiculous Russkie caricature played by a lousy Swedish actor (forever stuck making direct-to-video action movies). Context. Distance to the material. Long story short. Drago was the worst monster Rocky faced. Apollo even in his prime would have gone down. That's what we learn from Rocky IV (however ridiculous the series had become by this point).

"You're a greasy fast I-talian tank!"....in 2017, Twitter would explode, call this racist, call Sly racist, call Mickey racist, and call to boycott the movie. With a healthy dose of "A white man wins against a black man! White wish-fulfillment!" thrown in. I'm glad this movie released in 1979.
