Rodney Dangerfield

Күн бұрын

In 1987, Rodney introduced the world to the deliberately disrespectful Andrew Dice Clay who catapulted to stardom. In 1990, “The Diceman” became the first comedian to sell out Madison Square Garden for two consecutive nights.
🎬: Extended cut of Andrew Dice Clay’s stand-up from Rodney’s 1987 HBO special with an extra 6 minutes of never-seen-before footage

Some guy here holds a candle this guy to Rodney. I'm sorry. I have liked Andrew from the beginning. Funny fact I've spent a lot of time in LA. I'm.how do you say Californian. At the time I developed an attitude of Andrew. I don't know where I came from but people ask me and I'm like no Cali. Never been there. Go figure. Rage against the Machine this guy. RIP. But this guy was a boy. I hear it. Excuse me a posuor (how is this spelt). I mean again may he rest in peace Andrew. The man is still going. Not Kennison. Andrew is good ok. No doubt about it. I never liked him, but seeing this he is more tolerable. He does go out of character enough here to soften the harshness of the rest of the material. And though it’s unfair, now knowing Rodney helped bring him up it makes it more appealing. He is pretty far beyond Ricky Gervais, but not exactly in a different category. He’s playing a part, and at this early stage it’s clever.

He’s the opposite…he gives no respect. And yes he was young, but a little more obviously playing an exaggerated character. The turning it around once or twice balanced it a bit for me. Rodney was smoother, and yes funnier, better material, and of course self deprecation is less offensive. But he was so much more experienced. Clay looks pretty young here. And the premise is so much in the same category, it almost feels like this is material Rodney wrote, but didn’t fit his style, it being the exact opposite.
