We call him rondey jesus mullen. Even the modern shape of the skateboard we ride qas invented by his imagination. Rare for a sport such as street skateboarding to still have its founder alive.

An awesome song [Dream on][by Aerosmith] and An Amazing skate vid part done by the great Rodney Mullen. This was the 2nd video I saw in 1994 & immediately bought a skateboard [right] afterwards. A mix of flatground 'freestyle' skating & street skating. Enjoy.

I had this tape as a kid. Brings back so many memories. IIRC, Jeremy Wray had a sick part in the video as well.

I find it interesting how he progressed. In the early 90s he pushed mongo switch but the late 90s to early 2000s he pushes normal switch.
@ater3792 ай бұрын
Watch some of his recent interviews. He started skating switch only because his hips were so worn out he couldn't skate his normal stance. He was in constant pain but relearned everything switch instead of stopping. He recently got his hips replaced and one was worn to a sharp point.
@kappo37402 ай бұрын
@ater379 Yeah I think I remember hearing about that, him switching stances completely

_And John Rodney Mullen cast himself from the suburbs of Gainsville, Florida. After ten years of kickflips, ten years of endless championships, freestyle would finally come to an end, street skating, would be his escape from freestyle's decline. But it had not always been this way, Mullen had once been a champion of the Skate Gods._

How is Rodney Mullen still getting better? He said that he didn't want to fade in public but he's much better now than he ever has been.

I think the most amazing thing is how he was the best in the world at freestyle, then transitioned into arguably the greatest street/tech skater of this period. You can see here he looks all sketchy as is still adapting. Pure talent!
