I l4arned more about cars from my dad that never finished high school than most mechanics before fancy computers took over. Now you need a special computer to tell you what computer part of the car is bad so you can replace it.
@deathstrike3 жыл бұрын
That is true, but sadly without those computers we would still have 8 to 10mpg and with 4 dollar plus a gallon being the norm, it would erase your wallet faster than your partner at Black Friday or Cyber Monday. The days when classic mechanics (myself included) could rebuild a 4bbl carb and change plugs and points and condensers are long gone. Now it's OBD II and at least you can purchase a Bluetooth module that will tell you error codes on the fly on your phone. That's a huge plus when you need quick and accurate info and don't have a Chilton's copy available. Is it a good thing? Yes and no. Because some error codes are actually engineering errors at the factory. Ford was bad for that in Explorers and Expeditions. Same stupid shit like emissions, cat converter, and sensors. Nuisance faults.....I could go on, but I do miss the days of simplicity. Plugs you could change, carbs you could rebuild, and a tune up with a timing light. Ahhh memories...

This is so true! "You can't get there from here", is a classic and true Vermont saying.

What can I say? The master of comedy the crowned king of the one liners! I wish I could be as quick as he was there will never be another comedian like him! I know he's making God laugh! Hey! On Halloween the kids give me candy! God Bless you i'll be there soon!......

Thanks Mr. Dangerfield, that was very instructional now I know if my car mechanic is trying to pull a fast one over on me.

As a career auto mechanic this has aged very very well. Three things that I’ve tried in real life that has realistic results from this skit: 1. You ain’t using this car tonight 2. I’m all alone here 3. Who worked on this before What a riot those three things cause if you say it to a client
@ronb10572 жыл бұрын
My line to the customer usually was $50/- labor to work on your car, but $100/- if you want to watch me work on your car. They usually left me alone and all went well.

@@ronb1057 I take on occasionally jobs that other mechanics have screwed up & the clients need satisfaction; usually they get tired of watching after a little not fun work
