I enjoyed the video. I was a taxidermist for 35 years until I retired ( had a car accident ) so I miss it a lot. The anticipation of deer season. .. the many stories. .. it brought back many good memories. Thank you. ..God bless you. ...curt

The bond you have with your son and close friends in the videos reminds me of how close my brother and I have a relationship with our Dad. We love deer season in the Adirondacks and can’t wait to get back up in the mountains any chance we get. Hope to visit your shop someday very soon. Love all your videos !!!!

Awesome shop Guys!! I’m a fellow taxidermist from northern mn. Nice work Rodney, you are a busy man. I really enjoy the videos, so informative and unselfish with the tracking information. You guys are true giving people, sharing your knowledge with others ( you don’t see that much these days) Its on my bucket list to track a big buck down. I’ve done some tracking over the years in my hunting area (only 4 by 4 miles square)but they run out onto private land .The nearest big woods is a long ways away, would love to do a Maine trip one day. Ontario is a possibility. I know you guys have hunted Canada, maybe I could talk to one of u fellows on the phone or email about some specifics on the deer and the landscape in Ontario. Thanks for your time and effort!!!

You guys need deer antler management.....I can tell by the size of this years haul that there is a problem.....I thought Alabama and Mississippi had issues but our deer much better on average....but we finally began managing and people are more conservative about what they harvest.....fortunately most hunters are only harvesting bucks they would mount.....and we have a liberal doe harvest....we are seeing larger and more mature deer than we ever have.....it’s great...wish we had done it 25 or 30 years ago.

There is something Rodney that I have never told you, although I have commented a plenty and you have always answered, I did taxidermy for a living for eight years , and I also taught it at a wilkes community college, and I only live forty minutes from McKenzies plant at granite quarry NC , I would just drive down there and get what I needed for a week or so , and go back to the shop and mount ,,all this said I just wondered how much business you do with that company?
@mtndeer4 жыл бұрын
as you know they got a pretty good monopoly on things. lol quiet a bit as you would expect .

Rodney Elmer & Mountain Deer I figured that , there is a place in Hickory NC called H @ K researches , a chemically based company, and a friend of mine works there and developed the a and b uafoam that those manikins and targets are made of , this was back in the 70 s ,,,but I believe that company still exist today. The guy who developed that foams name is Leonard Cornwell, he is a black man who resides in Lincoln county NC

The little things matter to. Clean neat work spaces make you happy to work there and things come out better. If I end late and leave things a mess at night, no problem, next day clean first thing.

Guys I like the videos you put out...never been to the shop I’m in PA...if I ever get that far north I’ll stop by. Also I like the real hunting you guys do...this is the style of hunting I can appreciate not the managed farms like in the Midwest where the TV hosts are trophy hunting for the money, glory and fame...that’s not the hunting heritage that I grew up with and live by... Do you mind sharing the make and model video equipment you use?

I got an buffalo last year and sent it to a taxidermy ._. my family that stays the night tells me to keep it in the basement as well and my wolf. Because of the way they would stare the wolf is in the growling mode. I mean come on the cougar more scary and they have no problem with him.

Love the video and the shop would love to see some taxidermy instructional videos, im kinda late i guess but im 43 and spent most of my life working away from home in oilfield but trying to make a change ive helped mount to whitetail shoulder mounts years ago and have done a few antler and euro mounts but rt now im like a sponge trying to learn all i can about taxidermy . Hoping to change my profession from welder to taxidermist over the next couple years and go from working out of town and state 9-10 months a year to working at home any and all help learning i can absorb would be awesome and love watching different people and different ways , again awesome videos

What do you guys think about antler point restrictions and rifle doe harvest?
@mtndeer6 жыл бұрын
The original intent of the apr was to better diversify the buck age class structure. It's success is some what in question but the "average" buck moved from a 1 1/2 yr. old #3 pt. 113 pds.... to a 2 1/2 yr. old #5 pt 137pds. Accurate Percentages of age classes from pulled teeth (rifle & youth) are on going and check on vt. fish& wildlife web site. for hearings schedules. Rifle doe harvest maybe deemed necessary seeing how muzzleloaders maybe not getting the job done in some places. Following three easier winters , with deer yards at a (5 out of ten in my opinion) and a large herds in the two valleys , this could be the chance to destroy remaining vibrancy in existing yards and should definitely be avoided. 3 milds followed by 1 or 2 bad winters in a row could lead to 30 years of terrible hunting. Keeping the deer numbers down at this point is a must. ( IN SOME PLACES!!!!!)
