Rodrigo y Gabriela met as teenagers at an arts program in Mexico City. They put together a band but ultimately decided to just be a duo. Later, as a couple, they moved to Ireland and started busking - at the time they didn’t speak any English. They kept performing, at bigger and bigger venues, and then they started making albums. After a while they realized that their relationship wasn’t working out, and they ended it. But they’re so good as a musical duo that they kept that partnership going.

They both play nylon 6 string guitars. Rodrigo grew up playing electric heavy metal guitar. Love Gabrielas strumming and wrist control.

When they played this on David Letterman, Letterman said afterwards (obviously referring to Gabriela), "Could you do that more than once a week?!" and shook his hand out like it was hurting. I'll never forget that 😍I listened to their first album endlessly for months when I first got it. I love every song on it (except maybe Orion, which I like, but don't love).

Unfortunately it became more common for them to have to cancel shows because Gabrielle had broken or re-broken bones in her right wrist and hand because she was slappin he guitar so often and so hard.
