Roger Penske, Don Miller & Aj Foyt

In this interview with Tex Powell, Tex talks about getting the call from Don Miller (Penske South President) to be the new Crew Chief for Rusty Wallace in his first ever NASCAR Cup Race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. First, Tex had to work through some technical hurdles at Penske's INDY Race Shop to get the car built in time. Come race day Penske faced a certain catastrophic engine issue that could have ended their race efforts before they even started the race. The only fix was to find a new motor on the 11th hour before the race. Tex called in a favor with Penske's arch rival, AJ Foyt. Fortunately for the Penske Team Tex's reputation was well respected by all in racing and not to mention he also grew up with AJ Foyt, thus securing a competitive motor to save the day for Penske and Rusty Wallace on their first time out. What a first finish for Rusty Wallace!
Don Miller's thoughts on Tex: "Tex is one of the great unsung geniuses
of NASCAR, especially when it comes to drivelines". He was also one of my closest friends. He will be forever missed.
