Cocky and lazy He let the band play while he walked off stage No brown eyed girl No into the mystic No moondance even though there was a full moon that night ! Woulda been so perfect ! Screw him ! Ripped off his fans thinking they wanted to hear his bullshit jazz band play unknown crap Why? Cause he was tired of playing his catalog? Why would someone pay 100 bucks to hear jazzy junk they didn’t recognize? Shame on you Van !

I first heard this version in 2009, while on a converted rice boat, cruising through the backwaters of Kerala, India. We had anchored for the evening, in a remote section, in the middle of the rice fields, no roads, only paths, that locals were walking back home after spending the day working the fields. My sister-in-law had this on her MP3 player hooked up to the decent sound system on the boat. It was dusk, quiet except for this song, with Van's voice dominating the moment. The local Indian people, who really couldn't understand the words, all stopped listening to this incredible song, and by the end, the crowd was over 50 people, in their dhotis, just mesmerized. The universal language of music, breaking all cultural and language barriers, a truly magical moment in my life.

Levon Helm. And Rick Danko. I kept trying to see if any other members of The Band were in there, but they didn't show the other singers/musicians. Richard Manuel died in '86. Robbie Robertson was doing his own thing in 1990, and I suppose if he or Garth Hudson had been playing, they woud've been featured like Helm and Danko...I simply love The Band's vocals - harmonies that send shivers!

Just for the record, there is no Robbie Robertson and The Band on this stage. If so, Robbie would be performing the solos performed by the great Dave Kilminster and Snowy White. However, there is a Levon Helm sighting (The Band's drummer), who is responsible for the wrecked band that existed prior to the Last Waltz (Marty's great gig in the sky). Due to COVID restrictions, I will not address Van Morrison.

Van Morrison and Levon Helm's singing is unbeleivable. To make one of the greatest rock songs better without Mr. Gilmour. I never would have known if I did not watch The Departed this evening. Very moving, a masterpiece. I wish I would have been there to see it with my own ears.

Van Morrison does an amazing job covering this. The way he phrases and sings it is so different and powerful. It stuck out during The Departed. I also appreciated Eddie Vedder’s cover as well. Sings it with such emotion. Comfortably Numb is timeless and incredibly written. 👍🙏
