I first heard this version in 2009, while on a converted rice boat, cruising through the backwaters of Kerala, India. We had anchored for the evening, in a remote section, in the middle of the rice fields, no roads, only paths, that locals were walking back home after spending the day working the fields. My sister-in-law had this on her MP3 player hooked up to the decent sound system on the boat. It was dusk, quiet except for this song, with Van's voice dominating the moment. The local Indian people, who really couldn't understand the words, all stopped listening to this incredible song, and by the end, the crowd was over 50 people, in their dhotis, just mesmerized. The universal language of music, breaking all cultural and language barriers, a truly magical moment in my life.

Don`t know where you got that from because he is an absolute twat I believe...I knew a private jet pilot who flew him, and he was very aloof, and the crew were told not to ask for an autograph before he boarded, and during the concert which he got to watch, Van Morrison stopped mid song to show berate a band member over the mic who played a section of the song wrong...That is not class, thats a horrible person. I know the pilot well, and there is no doubt I beleive him. This masterpiece helped me thru the darkest time in my life. I was addicted for 10 years. When I first opened myself to it, I was hooked. When I wasn't with it, I would feel sick. It made me feel as if I couldn't live without it. It consumed me and took everything I had from me. From my family, my business, every cent I had, to my self respect. That "it" was my ex-wife. After It was all over I heard this song and took the lyrics as my own... "There is no pain you are receding" She was no longer here to hurt me. "A distant ship smoke on the horizon" The obsession I had for her was finally leaving. "You are only coming through in waves" The times I missed her were few and far in between. "Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying" When she would ask me to work things out, I no longer wanted to hear it. If im not mistaken, this song is about drugs. She was the drug I was addicted to. IMO...the greatest song ever.

Mind-blowing version of a great song. Every element works to perfection...Van, The Band, Snowy/Rick on guitars, the orchestration...and of course the genius of Roger Waters. Bravo (to the power of a million)!

I mean I get it, The Wall can't be performed without Comfortably Numb. Apart from Dave and Roger setting aside egos and differences somebody has to cover the parts. I like Van Morrison a lot, but every time I hear this version I cringe. Same as Bryan Adams doing Young Lust, it's just awkward. It's mostly me and my weird tastes. For example I don't like famous covers of Beatle songs. Joe Cocker's version of I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends, is classic, but I hate it. I'm just weird.🤷 Elton John's Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds makes me cringe.

One night back in 2004, my friends and I did a bunch of shrooms and we put Comfortably Numb on a loop and blasted it through the house all night long. It was a fucking amazing experience. We all bonded and for a time, lived in another reality. I'll never forget it.

He's the greatest guitarist ever in my opinion. I love all his work with Roger in the 'In The Flesh' tour and his performances in The Wall tour. After seeing the wall myself in Italy, and watching and listening to his many solos in the In The Flesh concert, I've tried to copy his style in my guitar playing but he's just too good. Maybe it's his 1957 Les Paul gold top that helps him!

Too funny Mike, same for me but it is3 years after you came upon it I did the same. At first, during the movie when it came up, I had to pause it and go to imdb and find out who was singing this, as I knew it couldn't be Pink Floyd unless this was a remake or concert at a later time. I like this version better, (not knockin' Pink Floyd's recording).
