Alice Babs' singing sends chills up my spine and brings tears to my eyes. She was loved by all the members of the Duke's band.

So true I never heard of her until a week ago when I was browsing KZbin looking for versions of "Hot Toddy". Go figure.

As a young singer just starting out as soloist with Duke Ellington in his Sacred concerts, I couldn't have been more pleased to have such a gifted and generous talented singer to learn from! Your unselfish spirit I will always treasure! May you rest with God's angels! You will remain in my heart!

Young? Starting out? Alice Babbs was an established Swedish vidette at the time. And her high octaves that Duke had in mind when he wrote that jazz oratorio still send me.

I, have the utmost Respect For Duke Ellington. He, alone was a Force in American / Black Music ,a True composer for the Centuries.Why, did they not choose more Black singers and choir. He ,certainly knew how to break thru the color barriers and experienced plenty of success with it. Duke was a very smart Eloquent Man...

His choices were based on ability, not race. As it should be.

I think Russel Procope is one of the most underrated clarinet players of all times in jazz history... he is one of my favourites, together with Buddy De Franco, Pee Wee Russel and Barney Bigard ... Great tone, excellent tecnique, good vibrato and excellent glissando... Russel procope had all these gifts... thank you Russel !
@Blomhert6 жыл бұрын
Procope had a great career with Fletcher Henderson and the John Kirbysextet before he joint Ellington in 1945 up till 1974

Em 3:56, se percebe toda classe e postura do grande Russel Procope ao terminar seu solo e cumprimentar Alice Babs ao sair, isso é uma elegância que só os grandes músicos tem.
