The subtle worldbuilding of Avatar is something I appreciate more and more with every watch through and it’s cool to see Roger point out some of this stuff during the watch through!
@backstabbath26902 жыл бұрын
Yeah Avatar has amazing world building. I know it gets a lot of flack for various reasons but legend of Korra expands on it greatly. Honestly the more that I’ve watched the series the more I love how it expands on the avatar lore. Plus LoK has the first avatar Wan arc which is fantastic
@Talisguy2 жыл бұрын
@@backstabbath2690 I think LOK's worldbuilding is a bit of a mixed bag: some of it cleverly and logically builds on the worldbuilding of its parent show, but some of it feels like it draws too much from real-world influences at the expense of being internally consistent.

I’ve always been a lurker but I gotta say, I love this format so much not only for the video itself but also a lot because of the comments. The Idea of you watching things that your community recommends is great, and so are the suggestions on the comment section. I’ve red kingdom just because someone suggested it under the Vinland saga video, and I loved it, same with vagabond (under another video which I don’t remember). Again this format is great because the video is good but the suggestions of your community are excellent (and yes, avatar is definitely worth recommending)

To me, Rogers isn't wrong about some of the early episodes having tonal issues, and a couple of jokes have aged worse than you probably remember (you couldn't get away with the "who wants to have Jinju on their team" bit these days, and for good reasons.) It's a really damn good show, but no work of fiction is completely perfect.

@@Talisguy what was wrong with the jinju line? I don't remember the context
@Talisguy2 жыл бұрын
@@tigerfestivals5137 It's implied Jinju has learning difficulties, and it's played as a joke. I'm not saying that one bit makes the show bad, obviously. I've seen more recent shows that have aged *much* worse. Avatar has mostly aged very well. There are just occasional moments that remind you it was made in the mid-00s. Again, not saying this makes the show bad. I love Avatar, it's one of my favourite shows. Just that a couple of moments here and there haven't aged as well as most people probably remember. Gyatso - even though he went down, HOW he did it, WHAT he did, was straight up ruthless. I don't recall exactly when you see it (it might not be said fully until Legend of Korra towards the end) but what he did can be figured out by the room he was found in. Him, alone, surrounded by Enhanced Firebenders, but not a scored skeleton in the room, all the bones still perfectly fine.
