Appa is 6/106 Aang is 12/112 Katara is 14 Sokka is 15 Zuko is 16 Uncle Iroh is 58-63 (age never given) The bending's are based on real martial arts. List is in Avatar cycle order. Fire is based on Northern Shaolin Air is based on Baguazhang Water is based on Tai Chi Earth is based on Hung Gar All music in it is original. Great soundtrack. Arrow on Aang's head mean he has reach the title of Airbending Master. Appa's arrow is just fur pattern. Most creatures in this world are made up of 2 or more animals from our would. Appa is bison and manatee. This is a cartoon not a true anime but it's beloved by anime fans so much that most considered it a honorary anime. This is 1 of the greatest shows to be made. And in most people view (me included) it's the best cartoon to ever be made

It's not bravery, it's stupidity. If it wasn't a kids cartoon he'd be killed right then and there and that's it for Sokka. A true warrior never acts this rushly. He knows when to strike and when to hide. We analyses, he strategizes, plans each attack. Sokka was just a dumb hormonal teen who ran into a warship full of soldiers with a boomerang. He's not brave, he's just impulsive and ignorant. Like I said, anywhere outside of a kid's cartoon he'd get a spear in his face and that's it.

This is a "kid" show, but it talks about animal abuse, totalitarian state, drugs, children abuse, blindness(disability), war, hypnosis, etc. This show taught me allot as a kid, and even more as an adult

"anime" is specifically Japanese, this show is a cartoon BUT REGARDLESS OF LABELS its one of the greatest stories ever told, absolutely my favorite animated story. Was lucky enough to watch it air episode-by-episode growing up.

So so happy to see you react to ATLA! this show had such a profound impact on me as a kid when it aired. I've rewatched it so many times almost 15 years later and it's still one of the best shows i've ever seen. Some of the best story lore, character arcs and animation ever made. The show gives so many great life lessons too, would highly recommend as a show to watch with your kids!

Sokka gets to level up his combat and strategy skills along with the others but the only supernatural skill he gets to improve is his rizz. The old joke goes, Aang is the airbender, Katara's the waterbender, Sokka is the backbender.

Just finished my rewatch of ATLA because the first and only time I'd ever seen it all the way through was when it aired on tv when I was a kid and it was one of my favorite shows growing up!! So now my favorite past time is finding people who have reacted to the series for the first time 😂🙌 I personally feel like surfers are real life water benders!! 🤩 To be one with the ocean and its waves to be able to balance and flow on top of them with a board is just so cool! And the people who dance and make tricks with fire, I forget what the name is actually called, they feel like real life fire benders to me!

Leo, this show is not traditional anime, Japanese Manga comics. It is whole Americanized animation, w/ an Asian theme. But, that said, this show is The premier cartoon series. It truly is a thing of beauty. I mean to say, it is probably the best show ever written, start to finish. Be aware that the show is like the Harry Potter series, in that it starts as a kids show, but quickly develops into adult themes by the last season. You are going to love it!!! And we will love your reaction.

So Avatar is really a hybrid of anime and western cartoons, because yes, it was made by an American studio, but it's also in the same style as anime, has the same music style, and they even hired Korean anime artists for Season 3, and maybe season 2. So it really counts as both

It's so funny that you mentioned the show not coming into its own yet *right* as you were about to watch the episode where it does! The Storm is a masterpiece and honestly one of my favorite episodes in the whole series Edit: I'm also glad you pointed out the similarities when he got knocked underwater again but didn't freeze this time! I've always figured it was because when it happened the first time, Aang only really knew Airbending, so in the Avatar State he defaulted to making a bubble of Air, which ended up freezing. During the Storm however, when he went into the Avatar State again he had some experience with Waterbending to fall back on, and used that skill to keep the water moving and keep it from freezing! Then again, it may also have just been warmer weather lmao
