Thanks! The Samyang and the Rokinon are the same lens, the company sells under both brand names. The lenses are identical, just buy the one you can find cheaper.

After seeing one of your other videos I was looking to buy 11-22mm for indoor, but now 12mm sounds better :) I need a lens for vlogging and the 16mm you recommended on the vlog video might be a slight narrow for me. Man you should be on a commercial for these lenses.

The 11-22 is the best overall lens for vlogs, it’s a zoom, so it’s more versatile, and it has image stabilisation. It’s also very sharp.

Yes, I like the f1.4 on the sigma 16 and the autofocus is very reliable. The Rokinon is just a total bargain for what it gives you, as long as you can get beyond the manual focus. The imagines out of the Rokinon have a magical feel to them.

Just found your channel. Very helpful. Just started doing real estate videography and hopefully photography soon on the side for extra money. I already have the Canon 11-22 which I use for all of the interior real estate stuff. It does struggle with low light. Would this lense (Rokinon 12) be noticeably narrower field of view as compared to the 11-22? I know the lower aperture would help me in low light. Just wondering how much narrower field of view It will sacrifice if I go to this lense?

For sure it's worth having both. Zoom the 11-22mm to 12mm, this will give you a good indication.

Firstly, thank you for this amazing review. I think you forgot to mention that this lens did not have IS. So, do you think footage will look little shaky if while walking during vlogging. In this video you are walking at a slower pace, so could not really tell.

Most of the prime lenses on this mount don't have IS, even the expensive ones. Since the lens is very wide, you wont notice the jitters as much, but for a vlogging lens with IS have a look at the EF-M 11-22mm, it's a very good lens.

Serious question.. do you think this would be a good lens to flim POV x-rated videos? I have the Sigma 16 but I have to back the camera up a bit more than I'd like.

It will allow the camera to be closer, but the ultra wide angle will have a very specific look to it, which may or may not be desirable.

Thanks for this awesome heads-up perspective!! I just opened my 12MM Rokinon and i was able to shoot only two short minute video clips. I tested other canon lenses then retried the Rok. now it is not taking any images or vids. do you have a troubleshooting video or have links to share for how to use and troubleshoot the Rok. lens!!

In the menu, release shutter without lens, or something like that, will fix your issue.

I don't know much about it, it is a f2.8 lens, which won't be quite as good in low light, but don't have any experience with it.
