Spot on! The kit lens is always undervalued. Sure it's slow and variable, but it's got nice image quality (Depending on your copy) and the IS is so nice for walking around. Combine that with the ability to quickly zoom in on details, it's fine for most people!

The EF-M system is underrated. So many good lenses for a affordable price (compared to full frame lenses that is) 😊 And the Sigma 18-35 is a fantastic lens, love the combo with the M6 mark II!

@@markwiemels The other great thing about the Sigma 18-35 with the M50 is that you can use the speed booster with it to really make the 4k mode on the m50 really stand out. It helps to negate the extra crop of the 4k mode and really lets you blow out the background if you want.

Couldn’t agree more. The native prime lenses are great for pretty reasonable prices. What the ef-m mount lacks is fast zooms but it is very adaptable so there are some fast slr zoom lenses available

I have one issue with bokeh on youtube videos. Yes a blurry background looks great, but to be honest, I watch youtube to check out gear the tuber has in their studio. My main interest is synthesizers followed closely by photography/video and I find it interesting checking out people's set up - I like admiring your photographic collection on your shelf Mark, which is possible with the kit lens but not the faster lenses. I don't find the background a distraction, I find it adds more when I can check out the gear in a studio, but perhaps that's just me? Anyway, super video as I've come to expect. I agree with you, the Sigmas are great lenses (I own the 16, 30 & 56mm f1.4s), but they can be on the heavy side. The Sigma 18-35mm (f1.8 wow), is a bargain!
@markwiemels
@markwiemels 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's a very good point, part of the art of composition in photography and video, is deciding what you want in, and out, of focus. Sigma make same great lens, and yes the 18-35 is one of the best of them, many people consider it the best lens ever made. It is a lot of lens for the money.

Marcus Pix just published a whole video about this topic. It is amazing what difference watching in 1080p makes compared to 720 or even 480p. Hey Mark! Absolutely love your videos. Very well produced and informative! I'm looking to buy a camera with a budget of around $1200 (with one lens). Here's what I'm looking for in a camera: 1. Twitch live streaming my DJ sets in medium to low lit room with LED lights like your videos. The camera would be placed about two feet away (due to space) and the DJ setup is about 3 feet wide which I want to capture. 2. A camera I can learn photography with and grow with. I'm interested in street photography/artsy photography (going to Austin in a few weeks). What camera would you recommend (m50 mark ii or the m6 mark ii) and what 1 or 2 lenses? Not interested in vlogging but will do cooking videos and DJ sets (Twitch and recorded). Thanks and keep these great videos coming! Appreciate them!

Yes, the 18-35 is a very popular video lens, it makes very small noises when focusing, just a very faint digital type noise. I can't recall if a shotgun mic, on the camera, will pick up the sound or not, an off camera mic will not pick it up for sure.

I know crop factor effects the image of full frame lenses. So how does the efm kit lens perform on apsc cameras like m50, would the kit lens of 15-45 act more like a 20-72mm. Or this should not be a factor because it is a lens made for apsc cameras.
@markwiemels

The only reason to even think about the crop, is if you have years of experience shooting a full frame camera, and have specific focal lengths that you like to use. Then you need to know the conversion, otherwise it's really not relevant.

Check out the best prime lens video, this is the best KZbin lens, 32mm is a bit to telephoto to be a versatile KZbin lens, the the 22mm is really good, and good for KZbin, but the viltrox 23mm is better, so I included it instead.
